Sometimes you might be reminded of Girls At Our Best, and then Delta 5. You might even, on occasion, think of Echo and the Bunnymen. Sassyhiya (pronounced "Sassy Hiya") were formed when Helen and Kathy, real-life partners and co-songwriters, joined up with Pablo and Neil (drums and guitar). Helen had previously been in Boys Forever and Basic Plumbing, collaborating with much-missed Veronica Falls musician Patrick Doyle. She and Kathy then formed Barry, a stripped-down queercore outfit, with Bart McDonagh (The Male Gays) and Mark Amura (My Executive Dysfunction). Sassyhiya feels like a culmination of all these elements, hitting the sweet spot between post-punk and indie pop. They know their way around a melody but still keep it wonky, with influences ranging from the Breeders and Broadcast to Dolly Parton.

“My hero’s back,” Madeline Kenney sings on the second track of her newest effort, Kiss from the Balcony. In a sense, she means herself; made with friends Ben Sloan and Stephen Patota across just a few in-person studio sessions in Oakland, these tracks represent a culmination of Madeline’s musings on growth and resilience reaching back years, brought to life through this generative and vibrant collaboration. Close listeners can hear the breadth of stylistic elements and themes carried through from various eras of her work, which all come together in a cohesive and timeless record.
In two week-long intensive sessions, the three collaborators grew these nine songs from fragments, sketches, and seeds. With a background in experimental percussion and sound design, Ben Sloan brings an electronic sound to Kenney’s writing; Stephen Patota provides ingenious guitar melodies throughout and grounds the project in acoustic elements. Kiss from the Balcony was originally intended to be an EP, but the sessions brought forth such fruitful ideation and play that the project was expanded to a full length album. It sits in Madeline’s discography as a thematic and musical progression that sees her iterate on ideas about love and explore new sonic motifs through her work with Patota and Sloan.
Much of Kiss from the Balcony is a meditation on modern relationships, a feminist and utterly human contemplation of power and who holds it. “Hereditary backward leaning,” she describes in ‘Slap,’ of the female condition; “But no-one ever likes to see the girls break down / So they keep it to the bathroom floor” she sings in the rapturous opener, ‘Scoop.’ While the songs are shrouded in metaphor, the ubiquity of heartbreak and resilience decode much of the internal conflict Kenney depicts. The album sees her recognize the precarity and peculiarity of life and take it by the horns, realizing she controls her own narrative:
She explores the relationships between joy and suffering, choosing to see them as inseparable, two sides of a single coin. “It’s never over / When will they love me?” Kenney asks on ‘They Go Wide,’ describing her positionality both as a woman in relationship and as an indie artist in the modern music industry.
A playful hopefulness pervades the record, providing a sense of revelation in the journey throughout, Kenney’s radical acceptance of life as it is like a lyrical tongue out at the absurd.

We presenting the upcoming Posthuman album "The Mind Is A Heavy Burden" coming out on Netherlands based imprint Flatlife Records. The full album arrives as a 9-track purple 12" vinyl and 13 track digital / streaming. This isn't the usual club-ready acid house to be expected from Posthuman of recent years, but instead a callback to their output in the early 2000s and their cassette releases on The Dark Outside. There's still plenty of their signature 303+808+101 sounds throughout but it's overall slower, more introspective and darker.

Das ist vielleicht eine unerwartete Aussage für das erste Album der Band seit ihrer Trennung vor sieben Jahren, aber die Band besteht darauf, dass es eine ehrliche Antwort ist - sie haben sich zusammengefunden, um die zehn kompliziert konstruierten Perlen aufzunehmen, die dieses neue Album ausmachen, und sie sind immer noch dabei herauszufinden, was es für sie bedeutet, in Forth Wanderers zu sein. Der Weg zu "The Longer This Goes On" begann im Sommer 2021 in einem Café in Brooklyn. Dort trafen sich Guterl und Trilling zum ersten Mal seit der Auflösung der Forth Wanderers im Jahr 2018. Die drei Jahre, die sie voneinander getrennt waren, hatten den Druck, den die Band während der Tourneen mit ihrer früheren Musik verspürte, teilweise abgebaut: "Wir fühlten uns alle frei, herumzualbern und Spaß zu haben", sagt Guterl. Die Wiedervereinigung mit dem Bassisten Noah Schifrin, dem Gitarristen Duke Greene und dem Schlagzeuger Zach Lorelli führte dazu, dass sich das Spielen so gut anfühlte, wie seit der Gründung der Band nicht mehr. "Es fühlte sich an, als wären wir wieder in der High School". Die Band hat die Art und Weise, wie sie bisher gearbeitet hat, neu definiert. "Dies ist das erste Mal, dass ein Großteil der Musik organisch entstanden ist", erklärt Schifrin. emerging from the far eastern port city of nakhodka, ishome's music has always carried a sense of distance and introspection. her debut album confession (2013) became a cult classic, a fragile, cinematic blend of ambient textures, submerged rhythms and quiet emotion.
carpet watcher was completed in 2018 but remained unreleased until now. like much of ishome's work, it was created with no urgency to be heard, a self-contained world suspended in time. drifting between viscous beats and spectral melodies, the album feels like a memory slowly coming into focus.

Bassist Russ Wilkins erinnert sich an die Aufnahme der LP: ,Die Aufnahmen fanden in Herne Bay in Oakwoods zweitem Studio statt. Ich glaube, ich war gerade mit den Prisoners dort gewesen und hatte "Taste of Pink" aufgenommen. Ich benutzte meinen Framus Star Bass und fing gerade an, einen Fender-Bassverstärker zu benutzen, der mich im Studio im Stich ließ, also musste ich einen AC30 Top verwenden, der ziemlich verzerrt und nicht das war, was ich wollte, aber wir mussten damit arbeiten. Man kann es bei "No-one Else" hören, das bei den Proben großartig klang. "Can You Tell Me" war der Beginn des Strippings, bei dem wir versuchten, so minimal wie möglich zu sein, und ich schaffte es später, es auf nur zwei Noten zu reduzieren. Es gab natürlich auch die Wall City Version der Platte, die von Hansi Steinmetz in Berlin herausgebracht wurde - mit einem andersfarbigen Logo auf der Vorderseite. Da sind auch viel mehr Backing Vocals drauf. Ich denke, dafür muss ich etwas Verantwortung übernehmen. Es wurde eher wie die vorherigen Pop Rivets-Alben aufgenommen, indem wir uns alle zusammen in einem Raum aufstellten und live spielten, mit sehr wenigen Overdubs, abgesehen von dem einen oder anderen Solo. SOPHIE classics ‘BIPP’, ‘LEMONADE’ and ‘VYZEE’ are joined by two immaculate PRODUCT-era songs ‘OOH’ and ‘GET HIGHER’ recorded and produced at the time, each with colourful single artwork completing the set.
‘OOH’ is one of SOPHIE's earliest productions that has been through several revisions since 2011. It was one of three original tracks that Numbers had signed when SOPHIE uploaded the song alongside 'BIPP' and 'ELLE' to her Soundcloud, and while it had been through several iterations and speed changes, this finalised version was completed by SOPHIE in 2019.
SOPHIE once described ‘OOH’ as “hi tech club dance pop”. Musically speaking, the earworm hook is carved out by her signature portamento-infused synths and candy-coated lyrics, a firm cult classic approved by AG Cook and Charli XCX. Initially titled 'MAKE RESPECT', the track was first performed live by SOPHIE in 2011 to a handful of lucky people at a beach afterparty surrounding Sonar Festival, Barcelona and later that year at Manhattan's New Museum. The vocal was recorded as the first track in the same one-day recording session as SOPHIE's debut single 'NOTHING MORE TO SAY', released on the Huntley & Palmers label, where Sophie's songwriting was performed by the London vocalist Jaide Green.
The genesis of the ‘OOH’ and ‘NOTHING MORE TO SAY’ recording session is lore-worthy in its own right: after watching Jaide Green perform live with Olly Murs during the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, SOPHIE reached out and invited Jaide to record in her home bedroom studio.
‘GET HIGHER’ was born during joyous sessions in 2013, when SOPHIE’s beat was introduced to the vocalists Cassie Davis and Sean Mullins. The track feels like a visionary precursor to ‘Vroom Vroom’, and doesn't sound out of place next to the sub-clang intensity of SOPHIE’s ‘HARD’ and ‘MSMSMSM’. Striking a playful balance between blissed-out hyperpop and club-ready Atlanta trap, it showcases SOPHIE’s signature, laser sharp sound design. Originally released as a bonus track on the Japanese CD edition of PRODUCT, ‘GET HIGHER’ has remained a hidden gem.

PARADE is an 8-piece group, predominantly from Brighton and now based in London. Its members - who are all involved in their own capacities in music, art, fashion, design and more - have been making music since they met at college in Brighton, flipping records and making beats in founding member Jago’s attic room. Since then the sound has evolved to incorporate live instrumentation alongside electronic elements. Though always collaborating in each other’s orbits, PARADE was fully formed when all members gravitated towards South-East London, scattering around in musically less mythologised areas across Nunhead, Forest Hill, Camberwell and Norwood.
Lightning Hit The Trees is the band's debut mixtape, and was entirely written, produced, engineered, and mixed in just two weeks. It was recorded in a shipping container in Forest Hill on basic, often broken, equipment with ideas often formed in the moment. Bruch once again proves to be a grim and bighearted crooner and multi-layered genre-bender between repetitive pulsating electronic music and brilliant organ minimalism, between destructive rock'n'roll and world-embracing pop. Bruch is Philipp Hanich's alter ego as a music producer. Born and raised in Munich / Germany, he has been living and working in Vienna / Austria as a visual artist and musician for 20 years now. He is equipped with a long pedigree of DIY-counterculture, gathered since the early 2000s whilst touring with different bands, creating off-spaces and co-running the labels Totally Wired Records (2012-2016) and Cut Surface (since 2016). The Harbour of the Broken Hearted (THOTBH) can be a state of mind, ramshackle but transcendent. Oscillating between the repetitive pulses of electronic music and organ-orchestrated minimalism, Bruch throws out comforting loops of sound just like fishing nets, that suck you into his stories unwaveringly. His evocative and unadorned vocal style adds to Bruch's depth, soul and sincerity. Drifting and driven amidst uplifting gloom. At times, solemnly striding against foggy and dogmatic black-and-white-thinking, rearing up in opulent resistance, then again just hopelessly beautiful and achingly wistful. Occasionally, Bruch's laid-back observations can also end in a wild ride. By introducing The Crusher, Bruch enters the harbour with full sails of self-reflexion - and we realize, sometimes it's all just about having to endure yourself. Or_ is it all about love? In the end, each and every of THOTBH's songs turns out to have a cathartic quality. Bruch's THOTBH might not be a safe space, but it accepts us as we are. With our doubts, our own frailties and our shortcomings. No need for embarrassment within the fragile. No need for shame and fear in expression. No need to shy away from creating something beautiful. You better learn to spell ,Sehnsucht" - as it turns out to be the everlasting keyword!

ein Londoner Studio und begann eine Marathon-Session mit Songwriting und Demoaufnahmen. Mit dem
Ziel, den raueren, ursprünglicheren Sound von Caves gefeiertem Post-Punk-Projekt „The Birthday Party“ nachzubilden, wichen die Texte und die Musik von Grinderman deutlich von Nick Caves früheren Arbeiten
mit The Bad Seeds ab.
Im darauffolgenden April nahmen sie die besten dieser neuen Songs auf und nahmen mit Hilfe ihres langjährigen Freundes und Produzenten Nick Launay ein Album auf. Ihr am 5. März 2007 veröffentlichtes Debü-
talbum „Grinderman“ mit elf Songs wurde von der Kritik hoch gelobt und enthält die Singles „No Pussy
Blues“ und „Get It On“. Das Quartett kam 2009 wieder zusammen, um „Grinderman 2“ aufzunehmen, das
2010 erschien. Im Dezember 2011 gab Cave die Auflösung der Band auf einem Musikfestival in Australien
bekannt.

Carrying on the long tradition of sentimental jangle pop songwriters, Lightheaded distil decades of lovelorn tunes into sounds for modern softies. They have the sunshine sparkle of The Left Banke and Margo Guryan, the C86 charm of Dolly Mixture and Would-Be-Goods, and the cinematic swell of Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura. ‘Idealism’ is an album about navigating life in the 2020s as millennial adults, and all the difficulties and uncertainties that come with that - knowing you’ll probably never be able to afford to buy a house, and that a simple grocery shop costs way more than ever before. But it’s also about all the joys and positives of modern life too - being kind to yourself, being kind to other people, and overcoming difficulties.
The band tries to capture that dichotomy on this album, hence the title ‘Idealism’, which the dictionary says is “the unrealistic belief in or pursuit of perfection”.
The album has been a long time in the making, diligently demoed before tracking across studios in London & Essex. Taking a more pop production approach, layering parts and additional keyboards, synthesisers and percussion to add a richer and fuller sound to their traditional indie rock set up.
Nostalgia has always been a running theme for Don’t Worry, as displayed on 2022’s ‘Remorseless Swing’ and 2018 debut album ‘Who Cares Anyway?’. There’s a decent dose of it on this new album still, including on the cover, with a photograph taken in their home of Harlow New Town in 2001 by Jim Brown. And in their musical influences, Pavement, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, The Streets, Fleetwood Mac, UK Grime and The GTA Vice City Soundtrack (alongside contemporary influences such as Fontaines D.C., MJ Lenderman, Andy Shauf).
But perhaps for the first time on this album, they push through the comfort of the past, embrace the present and look forward to the future with hope.
Itchy-O is an experiential performance ensemble that has mesmerized audiences across the U.S. and beyond since 2009. In 2024, itchy-O debuted Söm Sâptâlahn, a sold-out collaboration with the Fiske Planetarium. Named for an epic set of custom-crafted gongs cast from six hundred pounds of reclaimed brass at the School of Mines and tuned to a bespoke seven-tone scale, this project birthed this latest double album. Accessible, mysterious, and meditative, it is a bold addition to the itchy-O catalogue, sure to appeal to connoisseurs of the experimental, the contemplative, and the avant-garde.
The highly anticipated 3rd full-length by this Finnish band. Morbific is a rotten-to-the-core Death Metal trio deformed in the filthy and profaned boneyard of Kitee in early 2020, featuring Olli (guitar), Jusa (vocals / bass) and Onni (drums). The band’s Pestilent Hordes demo was unleashed in the summer of 2020, and it rapidly gained them some following amongst the finest gourmets of the variety of festering, moldering and disgusting Death Metal that’s malignantly influenced by Autopsy, Rottrevore, Deteriorot, Mortician, Grave, Maimed, Undergang, Impetigo and ancient Finnish masters of death and decay, such as Funebre and Disgrace. Shortly after, in the spring of 2021, the debut full-length Ominous Seep of Putridity saw the odious light of day to unanimous praise by both the fans and the media. Just a year later, and now aligned with Memento Mori, Morbific released their second full-length, Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm. Aptly titled, the album quickly became a cult favorite of utterly uncomfortable, slimy Death Metal. Now, Morbific are prepared to eclipse such a sewer-dwelling “highwater” mark with Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh. Whereas its not-inconsiderable predecessor confronted the listener with a blown-out, almost demo-level feel, the Finns’ third full-length proves that they can move and mesmerize and maim no matter what the soundfield is. And on Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh, it’s a raw-yet-robust show of strength, “classic” Death Metal production in a most late 80’s fashion; just witness that gurgling, fuzz-tinged bass and feel its radioactive waves envelope you. But production is one thing and songwriting is another, and with the latter, Morbific are truly hitting their stride here. Lumbering and stomping, with well-timed bouts of disgusting gallop or even ragged blasts, their songwriting twists and indeed squirms with off-kilter insanity; some would call it chaos, if not for the exceptionally tight musicianship on display here, with the sum result being an uncomfortableness that bubbles up from a deeper gutter. Thankfully, Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh conveys its dark, disgusting and unconventional aura across every element -said chops simply heighten these sensations- and is, thus far, Morbific’s best melding of form and content. Cro-Magnon as ever but somehow enlightened in the creepiest sense possible, Morbific continue their reputation as Finland’s filthiest and Death Metal’s untrendiest weirdoes. Vividly captured by Chase Slaker’s cover artwork, Bloom of the Abnormal Flesh is the foulest stench only for the brave!

Final Error is a death- thrash metal band from Lippstadt, North Rhine- Westphalia
(Germany), founded in 2014. The original lineup included Jens "Hammer"
Schillhammer (bass), Chris Krause (guitar), Achim Kietz (vocals), and Michael "Mieke"
Joachimsmeier (drums).
In 2016, they released their frst EP, "Sick of Your Lies". After several lineup changes -
Krause and Kietz both left - the band evolved further toward a pure metal sound,
moving away from their early hardcore punk infuences. New members like Fabian
Sendfeld, Juan Manuel Fuentes, Nico Paiva, and Andreas Kramer shaped this new
direction.
Their debut album "The Blind Lead the Blind" was released in 2019 via Dedication
Records, followed by the EP "Dead Man Walking" (2021) on KKR Records, both
accompanied by professional music videos directed by Matthias Kollek. In 2022, they
released their second full- length album, "Necromantic Rituals". After Kramer's
departure in 2023, the band welcomed seasoned drummer Burkhard "Borgy" Fabian
Formed in Oslo in 1996 by childhood friends Jon- Arne Vilbo & Thomas Andersen
along with Jan-Henrik Ohme (later joined by Mikael Kromer, Lars Erik Asp & Kristian
Torp), Gazpacho have honed their unique sound over a string of critically acclaimed
albums & numerous tours, including several with long-time supporters Marillion.
'March Of Ghosts' was the band's follow-up to 'Missa Atropos', which was released on
Kscope in 2011 along with the live album, 'London'. 'London' was recorded on the
band's European tour & the success of this tour helped provide the genesis for 'March
Of Ghosts', as Jon-Arne explains: "the previous tour gave us lots of inspiration. So, the
week after returning we went straight into the studio to capture whatever came." This
material was then honed, dissected & refned throughout the summer & autumn of
2011 to create a coherent whole.
While 'Missa Atropos' can be viewed as a concept album, 'March Of Ghosts' is much
more as a collection of short tales; "The idea was to have the lead character spend a
night where all these ghosts (dead & alive) would march past him to tell their stories.
They are short stories. They are a March Of Ghosts. They are tales that need to be
told."
It was in such a dense and impenetrable darkness that Lake of Tears must have been
born.
And their debut album is immersed in this darkness. It was baptized "Greater Art" and
indeed the title sets the tone for what was to follow. Yes, it is a higher art, it was and is
something different. Although there are infuences from other Swedish bands of the
time, such as Tiamat, or even death metal elements, what is certain is that their doom
metal brought to the fore something new, fresh and completely innovative.
We won't go into the process of choosing any songs, as we've said it before, Lake of
Tears never included indifferent compositions on any album. However, we can't help
but make a small exception when talking about the magnifcent epic " Upon The
Highest Mountain ", which in itself would be an excellent reason to purchase the
album.
We are proud to release Lake of Tears ' debut on vinyl after 31 years. For the older
generation to remember and the younger generation to discover. Because what these
Swedes made here, three decades ago, stands as an immortal monument. Is it doom
metal? Does it have death metal infuences? Is it gothic metal? Yes, but it sounds a bit
different...Who really cares?
It was then that the magnifcent prologue was written, becoming the beginning of
everything that was to follow. And hold on... the epilogue hasn't been written yet...
Though Scratch may have at times seemed crazy, it is worth noting that creative
genius appears so because geniuses see things others do not see and inhabit
realities unseen. As the music on this album reveals, Lee Perry's Black Ark creations
re-arrange the familiar into something new and magical.
Lee spent his early days working with legendary producers Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid,
Joe Gibbs, Clancy Eccles and Prince Buster, and by 1968 he was an independent
producer, naming his studio musicians The Upsetters and scoring instrumental hits
with innovative rhythms that helped forge the new reggae style. In 1970-1971 he
produced what many consider the greatest works by the Wailers; in 1968 one of his
Upsetters productions hit #5 on the UK pop chart and more hits followed. That gave
him the funds to build his own studio and in 1973 the legendary Black Ark was born.
Among the many landmark classics cut at Black Ark are such incisive political
commentaries as Max Romeo's "War Ina Babylon," and Junior Murvin's "Police and
Thieves" (covered by the Clash). The Congos' "Heart of the Congos" album is a roots
classic and there are many wonderful obscure singles such as Carlton and the Shoes'
"Better Days." Many dub creations made innovative use of Scratch's sonic wizardry via
echo, phasing, reverb, fanging, wah-wah and various sound effects.
It all came to an end in 1978 as Lee, besieged by extortionists, freeloaders, religious
fanatics and assorted pilgrims, let the studio lapse. And then he set it on fre, some
say due to frustration, others say from mental collapse. He left Jamaica, collaborated
with musicians around the world, toured as a sort of mystic trickster/ shaman and
prospered. But his work at Black Ark will always stand as his ultimate creative
achievement.
Rooted in acoustic instrumentation, their music features intricate melodies and
soulful vocals that resonate deeply with listeners. The band has toured the US and
Europe and contributed music to the Vikings series on Netfix, further cementing their
connection to Norse mythology.
Larvatus marks a return to the band's earlier, more mystical sound, evoking the
haunting qualities of albums like Uthuling Hyl and Nordlige Runaskog. This album,
which began taking shape during the uncertain years of 2020 and 2021, refects the

Talk Talk was an English band formed in 1981, initially gaining recognition for their
synth- pop sound in the early 1980s. The band was fronted by Mark Hollis, whose
distinctive voice and introspective lyrics became a defning feature of their music.
Their early hits, such as "Talk Talk" and "It's My Life," showcased a polished, new wave
style that earned them commercial success and a place in the burgeoning pop scene
of the era. However, Talk Talk's true artistic legacy lies in their later work, where they

Best of' albums are invariably repackaged collections of old recordings, so Vice Squad's `Punk Rockers' is a breath of fresh air The songs have been lovingly recorded and remastered, keeping all the original fire and adding decades of experience gained from punishing tours and continuous songwriting Beki is the original architect of the songs and the Vice Squad name, and she is the sole surviving member of the original lineup to have continued as a full-time musician Vice Squad are 100% DIY and record everything in their home studio with guitarist/riffmaster Paul Rooney engineering and mixing. There is nothing sloppy here; the whole album is concise and intelligent with lightning-speed diction, passion, and intent. The glorious `If I Knew What I Know Now' and `The World Is Wrong' are examples of Vice Squad's ability to write instantly catchy, witty songs, and the more gut-wrenching material from their last album, `Battle of Britain', showcases some enormous riffs and a voice that is a million decibels from Beki's untried teen vocals. Then we roar into the final single Beki wrote with original and now sadly deceased guitarist Dave Bateman, `Citizen', and continue with another teenage opus, the quite brutal `Scarred For Life'. `Voice of the People' is a bulldozer of a song, all swagger and ballsy riffs, and the chorus, `Freedom of speech is against the law; now we're all criminals,' snarls its derision at red-handed red tape. `Punk Police' sneers over a catchy-as-COVID guitar riff, and the lyrics, `Regulation cut, you must measure up, down on the street, PR companies, monied families, running the scene,' call out the hierarchies that now permeate Punk. Baritone guitars add extra darkness to one of the first-ever animal rights songs, `Humane', and I'm struck by how relevant the older songs are. Chocks away, and the awesome 'Spitfire' takes flight like Motörhead on extra amphetamines. Dogs Of War is the twelfth studio album by the heavy metal band Saxon, released in 1995. This one marked a period of changes for Saxon, both in their sound and lineup. Thanks to early ‘90s albums like Solid Ball Of Rock and Forever Free, Saxon convinced many skeptics that they still have plenty of quality heavy metal to offer and after a three-year recording hiatus, the band returned to glory with the massive-sounding Dogs Of War. Once past its thunderous opening title track, Dogs Of War delivered a slew of improbably memorable and distinctive numbers, including ""Big Twin Rolling (Coming Home),"" ""The Great White Buffalo"" and ""Demolition Alley."" Keyboard virtuoso Terry Riley started experimenting with different instruments in the ‘50s. One of his electronic music landmarks
is his third album A Rainbow in Curved Air. Through the use of overdubbing, he recorded all the instruments to feature on the title track. The composition consists of three movements, each representing another part of his musical influences. As the song progresses, its structure goes through frequent changes. It’s a colorful,
psychedelic, atmospheric and revolutionary song. The second track consists of a loop of saxophones and is the dreamy and calm opposite of the title track. Fans of electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, would love this record.

Ende der Achtziger hatte sich Thrash Metal auch in Deutschland etabliert und spielte weltweit sogar eine führende Rolle. Bereits zu dieser Zeit war es einigen Bands nicht mehr genug, einfach nur schnell und aggressiv zu spielen.
Der Thrash Metal wurde in vielen Fällen anspruchsvoller und technischer. In den USA trieben das Watchtower auf die Spitze, in Deutschland folgten gleich mehrere Bands auf demAaarrg-Records Label (Mekong Delta, Target). Während andere Acts erst noch straight agierten und dann im Verlauf ihrer Karriere mit progressiven Elementen liebäugelten (Holy Moses, Deathrow, Destruction), schnürten die Hamburger MEGACE schon nach der Bandgründung 1988 ein anspruchsvolles Paket aus anspruchsvollem Thrash und Prog.
Mit der Sängerin Melanie Bock hatte man zudem ein besonderes As im Ärmel, denn sie kann Beides: Das kehlige Thrash-Shouting und melodischen Gesang. Das hob MEGACE direkt von anderen Bands ab, was ihnen direkt eine Chancen bot, die auch genutzt wurden.
Nach einigen Demotapes erschien das Debütalbum „Human Errors“, welches in der Presse durchweg gelobt wurde und auch heute noch Fans auf der ganzen Welt hat (Reissue auf CD und LP, Golden Core 2025). Das zweite Album „Inner War“ kam mit Verspätung im Jahr 1999 auf dem kleinen Label Angular (Sylvan, Vanishing Point, Lana Lane).
Der Thrashfaktor wurde ein Stück zurückgefahren, während die melodische Seite der Band und der Klargesang von Melanie Bock in den Vordergrund rückt. Das schafften MEGACE ohne sich zu verbiegen. 1999 war nicht der perfekte Zeitpunkt für diesen Stil, aber die CD fand über die Jahre immer mehr Anhänger und der Ruf nach einer Vinylausgabe wurde lauter.

These 2 beautiful exiles travel limbic landscapes and underwater dreams with a map that disintegrates instantly when viewed. Their fractured sounds dissolve and reconfigure endlessly in our cochlea and infest our imaginations with spiked armies of ultra-vivid, sentient and carnivorous coral predators, atavistically intent on devouring the sweet meat hiding deep in the center of the amygdala. Michael Gira (SWANS). Wallfisch has played in bands like Firewater and Little Annie, while Schechter has logged time with American Music Club, Angels of Light and her own Insect Ark, among others; both spent time touring and recording with SWANS. They've been friends since meeting in New York in the 1990s. Years later they forged a stronger connection as bandmates in Botanica. They renewed their artistic partnership in 2021, when Paul invited Dana to Vienna to develop the music for a theatrical spectacle called Die Politiker written by Kleist prize winner Wolfram Lotz. The music from the production provides the foundation for the duo's first album, The Heart of A Whale. Across its six intense tracks one can detect a subtle homage to storied Berlin musical traditions, as the pair puts a raw, often brutal veneer on songs steeped in Weimar cabaret (a la Tom Waits) but updated with a visceral mixture of noise, post-punk, and industrial elements. Performed on a panoply of instruments from bass, organ and lap steel to SOMA Synths, Guitaret, a variety of electronics and a grand piano hammered with a shoe, the music reflects the New York- Berlin nexus they've both been part of for decades. Echoes of Swans, Einstürzende Neubauten and The Birthday Party, but also hints of Throbbing Gristle, Eno and even William Basinski and Michael Gordon. The music can't be contained by any single tradition, with a decidedly experimental bent that ruptures the fixed rhythm of rock for something more theatrical and emotionally harrowing.

The lengthening days and the long beautiful evenings: it must be time to treat yourself to this wonderful (and highly limited) 10” single from Julian Cope’s Dope feat. Fuck Authority. Consisting of two 20 minute tracks, main track ‘666’ is a Deutsche sing-a-long from beyond the grave, replete with martial side drums and cacophonous orchestral strings. With raised steins, our gruff-voiced male choir recounts their bolshie nursery rhyme – a beguiling tale of a mysterious tree that predicts the future. Simultaneously traditional and avant-garde, ‘666’ will remain in people’s heads long after the vinyl has been ejected. Meanwhile, awaiting listeners on the other side of this epic release is Dope’s most overtly psychedelic offering thus far. Off-kilter and raging, this non-LP B-side is entitled ‘1381’, after the year of Wat Tyler’s Peasant’s Revolt. Unbalanced? U-Betcha! As Fat Paul’s cataclysmic FX and Holy McGrail’s Space Echo obscure and overwhelm Fuck Authority’s vast stereo bass guitar, one can only praise the poor technicians who captured it all on vinyl. Yes, with its fabulous packaging and earworm chorus, this unlikely 10” release must be a candidate for Single of the Year surely?

Trumpeter Eddie Henderson came to prominence as a member of Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi in the early-70s after which he recorded a pair of seminal jazz-funk fusion classics for Blue Note—Sunburst (1975, and Heritage (1976)—the latter featuring a forward-looking crew with Julian Priester, Patrice Rushen, Paul Jackson, Mike Clark, Billy Hart, Mtume, and others. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

The project was originally released in 2001 as his first album on Definitive Jux. When it comes to dark, mesmerizing electronic music steeped in EBM, house, industrial, and electro, few artists delve as deep — or as strangely — as Timothy J Fairplay. A long-time underground stalwart and collaborator with the late Andrew Weatherall, Fairplay has carved out a sound that’s as cinematic as it is menacing.
His Melt the Chains EP pulses with slow, chugging rhythms, warped synths, and a kind of psychedelic paranoia that feels tailor-made for shadowy dancefloors and late-night headphone sessions alike.
Adding an extra touch to the release is DC Salas, who delivers an extraordinary remix that pushes the EP even further. Injecting his signature blend of sleek groove and cosmic flair, Salas reimagines “Runs Every 15 Minutes” into something both dancefloor-ready and deeply hypnotic — a perfect complement to Fairplay’s noirish sonic world.
Yowzers is a new album by Chicago composer, improvisor, and musical folklorist Ben LaMar Gay. Yowzers features Gay"s working quartet with Tommaso Moretti (drums, percussion, voice), Matthew Davis (tuba, piano, bells, voice), and Will Faber (guitar, ngoni, bells, voice), as well as guest instrumentalist Rob Frye and a mini-choir. The album recalls the high-minded freedom of Liberation Music Orchestra, the glitched-out electronic webs of Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, the unbridled rhythms and sandpaper bellows of Bukka White, and the harmolodic cartoon glory of Arthur Blythe"s Illusions. It"s all there, filtered through an improvisational approach and a lifetime of secrets embodied. For a man who has inhabited and traveled these continents so extensively, it"s safe to call this work true "Americana", despite what that word might mean to the average person in the United States.

Following their acclaimed debut Spirits, New Zealand"s boundary-pushing jazz collective The Circling Sun return with their sophomore LP Orbits - a deeply layered fusion of spiritual jazz, analog electronics, and percussive groove. Where Spirits explored 1960s influences, Orbits shifts into the mid-"70s, drawing inspiration from Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Yusef Lateef"s Atlantic era, and the Brazilian jazz of Azymuth and Airto Moreira. The ensemble blends arpeggiating Prophet synths and modular electronics with acoustic instrumentation: saxophone, upright piano, vintage drums, and hand-played percussion. Tracks move seamlessly between danceable Afro-Cubanrhythms and expansive, ambient jazz meditations - with layered vocals and choral textures guiding the listener through an interstellar sonic journey. Lush yet accessible, Orbits appeals to both deep jazz heads and fans of ambient, soulful instrumental music.

The Belgium-born, Paris-based Nathalie Duchene joins Radio Slave’s Rekids via a collaboration with the label boss himself. ‘We Are Youth’ lands 11th July 2025 and includes a remix from CASSIMM.
Embodying the spirit of summer with glistening piano keys, vibrant strings, and a snazzy bassline, Nathalie Duchene & Radio Slave's ‘We Are Youth’ brims with feeling. The vocal, sung by Radio Slave’s daughter, adds a layer of innocent nostalgia that clings to joyful memories. Rekids regular CASSIMM steps in for a remix, upping the tempo and flipping the track into a disco infused House cut.
Founded in 2006, Radio Slave’s Rekids has since launched the Techno-focused Rekids Special Projects in 2017 and its latest sublabel, REK’D, in 2024. With Matt Edwards as the sole A&R, Rekids has been instrumental in developing emerging artists and remains a trusted home for House and adjacent sounds, recently featuring names such as Tiger Stripes, Tal Fussman, Oliver Dollar, The Hacker, and more.

First up is rumba-driven tech house wobbler “Little Closer”. The UK-influenced stabs and the cheesy vocals do indeed make you want to move a little closer together on the dancefloor and shake it out. On A2, “Iramam” comes rumbling in—a highly swung percussive stomper with melancholic pads and mystical choirs setting the mood as it flows away. On the flipside, the vibrating pads of “Run” come creeping in. The energetic yet emotional techno tune develops like a long run through the city in an early 2000s video game. It was initially released on a VA in 2021 and has since then gained many festival and club plays. Now it will be released for the first time on wax. The last tune on the record is “Cama Loca”—a bouncy, shaky house tune with tons of percussion and freaked-out creepy melodies, which will make you feel like everything is spinning once you close your eyes! Five years after their groundbreaking debut "Klucz" (hailed as the best Polish hip-hop album of 2004), the Warsaw-based crew Wilku, Bilon, and Żary returned with another hard-hitting project – "Droga", originally released on April 15, 2009.
Now, 16 years later, this cult classic is returning for the first time ever on vinyl – in a special collector’s edition!
"Droga" features a lineup of guest artists who, at the time, formed the backbone of the Polish hip-hop scene, including Peja, Lukasyno, Firma, Fandango Gang, Juras, Bas Tajpan, Ras Luta, Dixon 37, and Diil Gang.

Milton Wright's perfect deep Soul classic "Keep It Up" has always been a top shelf record, everything about it is almost flawless! Whether it's Milton's silky vocal delivery, the incessant guitar driven back beat or the total space Funk vibe of his omnipresent ARP-2600 synthesizer this record has it all. Originally released on TK Disco's more Soul and Funk orientated Alston label which was home to many legendary artists and records, this 1975 sunshine classic never fails to make people move. A classic rare groove indeed. "The Silence That You Keep" takes up side-B, a jazzy, flute driven love song that again features Milton's perfect voice and some fantastic arrangement. A real gem of a record, with the original 45 changing hands for over £100 a time in used condition.

Black Vinyl LP. The world has changed, we shouldn't try and pretend otherwise. While we were shut away in isolation our routines shifted, social patterns evolved, and our hopes and dreams were twisted into cobwebs we're still trying to wipe from our fingers. Ziúr tentatively approached this on her last album Antifate, an ambitious and complex hybrid pop fever dream that looked back to a Medieval escapist fantasy as the scent of revolution seemed to hum in the air. But when restrictions were eased, she found herself staring down a discombobulated society that had trapped itself in a spiral of microwaved nostalgia and detached, narcotic repetition. Eyeroll then is Ziúr's musical panacea, a tincture to wake us from our creative slumber and prompt external connection and reflection. It's a polyphonous hex that demands human interaction, and Ziúr's hand-picked alliance of collaborators - Elvin Brandhi, Abdullah Miniawy, Iceboy Violet, Juliana Huxtable, Ledef, and James Ginzburg - each provide distinct voices that together herald a bewildering sonic epoch. Ziúr's palette had to evolve to match the scope of the project, but it was pure necessity that informed the album's defining tone. Recording mostly at night, Ziúr was conscious of the noise she was making so developed a unique way to record organic percussion. Using a set of rototoms - low profile tunable drums - she scratched, scraped and gently tapped the skins to build up the undulating and unstable rhythmic backdrop for each track. It's the first sound we hear on the opener 'Eyeroll', rattling like lost marbles against Elvin Brandhi's primal croaks and screams. And when Brandhi's twisted articulations form words, Ziúr matches the energy with chaotic thuds and serrated blasts of saturated electronics. "I roll the shittiest cigarette," she squeals like she's about to start a mosh pit at Paris's GRM Studios. Without pause, Abdullah Miniawy takes over on 'Malikan', building on the promise of material with Simo Cell, Carl Gari and HVAD with corrosive trumpet blasts and charged, politically incendiary Arabic vocals. Inspired by pre-Islamic poetry and the Qu'ranic chanters he heard growing up in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, he spins labyrinthine stories that cross between the worlds, breaking down physical and spiritual borders simultaneously. Miniawy's scope is expanded even further on his second collaboration, 'If The City Burns I Will Not Run'. "If it rains and the city drowns," he utters over gaseous electronics, "I will not run away, but I will be anxious for the heart of one close to me." After a supple vocal turn from Manchester's Iceboy Violet on 'Move On' and a surreal interlude from poet- DJ-artist-theorist Juliana Huxtable on '99 Favor Taste', Brandhi returns with two more hyperactive collaborations: ,'Nontrivial Differential' and 'Cut Cut Quote'. On the former she slices into Ziúr's skeletal jazz eruptions, screaming and crooning interchangeably, fluxing between the rap battle and the cabaret. The latter is completely different meanwhile, with Brandhi settling into her role as front-woman and groaning dizzying improvised passages that sound like grunge crossed with psychedelic no-wave. Brandhi's spiky musical history has prepared her well for this collaboration; she's a prolific producer and has been using her voice spontaneously since debuting with father-daughter improv duo Yeah You in the mid 2020s. She's found an ideal foil in Ziúr, a producer who matches her restless energy and willingness to bend formality, and leaves an indelible mark on Eyeroll. But the album's most tender moments are from Ziúr herself, who winds the album down on 'Hasty Revisionism', growling over collapsible beats and cascading strings, and comes to an unexpected conclusion with country coda 'Lacrymaturity'. Its feverish amalgamation of country music and euphoric, experimental electronics might seem incongruous at first, but in context with the rest of the album is the only possible conclusion. With Eyeroll Ziúr is making a firm statement about togetherness, humanity, and the renewal of hope when all seems lost. By bringing together such a wide but philosophically harmonic team of collaborators, she's conducted a body of work that speaks to the creative fringe in no uncertain terms. Now's the time to throw away what you think you know, and build bridges you didn't think you need. Now's the time for action. She may have spent her entire career avoiding the solipsistic trappings of "queer art", but by assembling a communal statement that questions so many normative assumptions about music, politics, and beyond, Ziúr has chanced upon her queerest album yet. Cringe? Eyeroll.

Transitioning from the successful 2 Years EP (O Sótão Records, 2023), Tiago Fonseca became an up and coming Producer and DJ based between Lisbon and Porto. On the back of gigs at some of the best clubs in the country, he also transitions from Tiago A.F. to TGZ (sounding Tigz) as his moniker for what’s to come ahead. Long Shape, his latest project, is O Sótão’s first vinyl release, and the first to be delivered with higher standards of professionalism. Learning the trade, the processes, the timeframes, the costs, and having just completed 10 years of existence. A good time to go a bit deeper.
In the summer, Tiago sent me a golden playlist of unfinished projects for a second opinion. The idea for a new record started there, and from the bunch we handpicked a selection that ended up making really a lot of sense for us. We were looking for wet deepness and eternal warm ups, pulling up the fader slowly. An invitation to leave our mental capsules and divert attention towards a seductive bassline cliff-hanging a dream. Progressiveness and jazz. Long shapes and melodies in the last frontier between nostalgia and hope.
To help, we invited Miguel Tenreiro (a.k.a. Gazpa) to master the tracks, with him adding a smooth-extra-delicious pump on the beautiful original elements. Miguel also picked up the title-track for a remix treatment, breaking up the tempo with a hip-hop-electronica finale, sprinkled by a guitar solo from Zé Nuno - another great musician stemming from Mr. Bean’s bar, where we held a residency for the past year.
Long Shape will drop on March 21st. Vinyls might be only available a bit later. It will be a landmark moment for us, being Tiago’s most complete work to date, and a better representation of his rich musical influences, expanding it, as we speak, to another level. It’s also been 10 years for O Sótão, so there’s that too. To sum up, I’m just very glad that Long Shape sounds exactly where we would like to be after all this time, with a quick image of a nite-lit skyscraper cutting into a couple of rocks being dropped in the coolest whiskey glass, and the people warming up to a dream.

20/20 Vision marks its 30th anniversary with another great release here in the form of some remixes of Crazy P's iconic single 'Stop Space Return'. The late Danielle Moore's unmistakable vocals shine across two stellar reworks from Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy who infuses her cosmic, acid-laced disco energy into the track. Her Cosmodelica Remix and Dub version blend trippy 303s, cowbells and deep grooves into something suitably fresh. Also included are two classic Unabombers mixes from 2009, and they offer raw house heat and dubbed-out psychedelia that serves as a fine floor-focused reinterpretation of a beloved anthem.

Trust in 6 was a one-off project by Torsten Stenzel, produced in collaboration with André Fischer (Recall IV, Technoline, Scope) and Lars Janzik (Scrot). Their sole release, “Life in Ecstasy”, came out in 1991 on Techno Drome International, a sub-label of ZYX Records, and earned a spot on the first volume of the legendary Techno Trax compilation series. The track fuses techno and EBM with a dark, driving energy-layering classic trance arpeggios, eerie pizzicato samples, and haunting, hypnotic vocals into a standout piece of early '90s electronic music.

Funkyjaws Music kicks off a new series here with a focus on hefty disco jams. Bodgan RA is first up to flex his muscle with 'Taboo' which is full of bright synth lines and gorgeous vocal harmonies best to some lush guitar riffs. 'Buffalo' then brings some old-school energy with chopped-up beats and scratching that eventually unravel into a feel-good 80s disco sound. The joyous vibes flow on freely through 'La Battaglia' with its cosmic guitar leads, horns and raw claps then 'Detective' shuts down with the most steamy cut of the lot complete with brilliant funky undertones and expressive synth solos.
Cardiff man Chesus makes raw, no-nonsense, highly effective club tracks that are well-sampled and subtly 90s-leaning. He might be best known for doing them under his Earl Jeffers alias but this one is one of his standouts, and it was originally made back in 2008-ish before being left on a hard drive then rediscovered and put out in 2013 on Local Talk. Here, the evergreen jam resurfaces via the MELANGE Archives series. 'Special' is indeed just that - it brims with feel-good energy thanks no doubt to the swooning strings which bring great life to swinging drums, chopped-up soul vocals and expressive synth lines. It's a pure party starter that is ageing to perfection.
Dutch club jazz band New Cool Collective returns with a tasty 7" featuring two cinema classics. On the A-side, they serve up their own fresh and super funky cover of 'Enter the Dragon,' the iconic theme associated with Bruce Lee and his martial arts masterpiece of the same name. The B-side features their take on 'Misirlou' which is a legendary surf rock track by Dick Dale & The Del-Tones that was made world famous when it was used as the theme from Quentin Taranto's chef d'ouevre, Pulp Fiction. This double-sider is standout for its nostalgic movie associations but also on a purely musical level it oozes class.
