Teddy Douglas presents Monday Night Studio Sessions Live @ Rockwell is a unique recording from a legendary event that is all about putting the focus on house music's finest artists.

Monday Night Studio Sessions @ Rockwell is the brainchild of the imitable house impresario Teddy Douglas and his partner DJ Tanz. The night started in 2017 and ever since has showcased true artistic talent in a perfect setting with the legendary likes of Byron Stingly, Lalah Hathaway, Jasper St Company and Josh Milan, just a few of the animus who have played in the past. This session was live on the Monday and then recorded in Teddy's studio the night after with Davon McCoy on percussion, Charles Dockins on keyboards and the maestro DJ Tanz and Teddy Douglas conducting the show.

Standout tracks on this essential collection include the 'I'm Blessed' Remix by Richard Burton with its driving gospel handclaps and Charles Dockin's magical live piano over the top. 'Spanish Joint' is a chunky dance floor party record that builds and builds with mesmerizing and hypnotic Spanish guitar played by Skip and the Whole Nine Yards. It is the Monday night theme song and gets played twice a night.

'You Can Do It' by Barbara Tucker, Zhana, and Teddy Douglas was the first single from the LP last year and epitomizes the musical house grooves you can expect at one of these sessions. Rochelle Fleming's 'Nobody's Fool' and 'Get Lifted' by Andrea Holdclaw were two strong singles before the pandemic, and 'We Belong Together' from the voice of house, Mr Bryon Stingily, and Teddy Douglas is the 100th release on the label, and it has a catchy hook that adds to the legacy of Byron Stingly classics.

'Rise (instrumental)' from Teddy Douglas is an absolute crowd favourite with powerful grinding organs that wail and moan with intensity throughout the tune. 'Gotta Get Away' is DJ Tanz's first production and an absolute killer with a techy 80's edge design to get the floor pumping. Add in the live and off-the-cuff happenings of Navasha Daya scatting to the crowd over 'Supernova Spinning' and percussionist Davon McCoy and saxophonist Brandon Moultrie having a jam session - you have a magical session captured in all its glory.

The sublime collection is a real labour of love that features superbly talented artists at the top of their game.

Baia Club is a new collaboration born in the Really Swing headquarters L’Amaro Studio, between Quiroga, Whodamanny and Dario Bass. "Shine On" is an italo funk groove with an incredible vocal by Whodamanny, while on the flip side the instrumental version is an homage to the Italian house golden era.

After more than six years of collaboration between label and artist, Feines Tier and Luca Musto bring to you the highly anticipated first full length LP “Nice Place, Bad Intentions”.

Musto’s first LP “Nice Place Bad Intentions” departs from the conventional 4/4 time signature. Instead, the album’s structure and the tracks themselves are reminiscent of a 1990s/2000s Hip Hop long play release. This becomes evident in the fact that the LP not only features 17 tracks, including skits and interludes, but also that they make up the framework of a conceptual album. Here, listeners will be encouraged to follow the track list and listen to “Nice Place, Bad Intentions” in one go.

“Nice Place, Bad Intentions” was produced over a period of 1,5 years. Besides the majority being original samples and vocals from Luca Musto, the LP also features a number of studio musicians, including bass players, trumpeters and guitarists. Cologne-based guitarist Simon Bahr can be found on several tracks, including the three singles “Infiltrate”, “Boogie Angst” and “Real Name, No Gimmicks”. Moreover, the skits and interludes are spoken by professional voice actors from the US and Canada.

The Berlin-themed album follows the characters Mick and Richie, who are all about partying and come to the city for one weekend in hopes to have the time of their lives. When the characters’ expectations meet reality, their naiveté (or bad intentions) lead them to getting screwed, robbed and even arrested. These stories about their journey through Germany’s capital are found in the interludes and skits. Listeners can follow them passing infamous places and metro stations in the city based on sampled BVG announcements, which gives the album a radio play vibe.

Sound-wise, Luca Musto’s unique sounds include scratched hooks that meet original lyrics and melodies, resulting in distinctive genre-bending tunes. As Mick and Richie stumble through some of Berlin’s most in-famous places, their expectations repeatedly clash with the reality of the capital’s nightlife. Similarly the liste-ners’ expectations are twisted and turned. Yet, the soundtrack underlining the characters’ journey never disappoints and brings its listeners on a rhythmic trip of old and new sounds. From rapping on downtempo as in “City of Grind” to merging the classic structure of electronic music with funky guitar licks and unconventional chord transitions as in “Infiltrate”, the LP feels at once like a daring experiment and like the beginning of a developing new genre.

Octave One's deep and downtempo 90s project Never on Sunday will be back later this year with another EP. Before that, they tease with a lead single that comes with remixes from Skream, P41 and the legendary Detroit brothers themselves.

Though best known for their electrifying live shows and stadium-sized techno productions as Octave One, the Burden brothers also started the electronic band Never On Sunday back in 1991. It saw them put out one solo EP, and one with MK, before the success of the Octave One project took over. Aside from an experimental audiovisual live show in Rome in 2018, it has laid dormant... until now. During the pandemic and no doubt inspired by more time at home and away from the energy of the dance floor, the brothers have cooked up a wealth of deep and thoughtful new material that is rich in detail and atmosphere, as this new single proves.

The Bearer (Original Instrumental) is still defined by scintillating angle sounds, from the meandering synths to the crunchy broken beats, but the tempo is slowed so you have more time to gaze at the cosmic pads and sink deep into the otherworldly sonic landscapes. First to remix is party-starting UK DJ and multi-faceted producer Skream. He lays down rock solid kicks with rib-rattling bass rumbles that make for an incendiary techno track. Add in the spine-tinglingly chilly vocal performance from Karina Mia, and you have a track designed to make a huge impact in even the largest of warehouses.

Next up is P41, the Italian electronic-engineer who worked with Francesco Tristano on his famed live shows and has himself played everywhere from Off Sonar to Studio 80 in Amsterdam. His remix is hugely emotive, with chunky drums laced with subtle melodic bleeps and a futuristic atmosphere that will hypnotize all who hear it. Finally, the Octave One remix is six minutes of perfectly well-swung deepness. The hits are dry, the vocal becomes more warm and soulful and the mid-tempo groove is irresistible.

This is a superb new EP that re-introduces the Never on Sunday in fine style.

Dutch duo Tunnelvisions return to their home label Atomnation for a fourth fantastic release in the last three years. This six track excursion builds on the pair's warm, richly melodic and always hypnotic style with fantastically colourful results.

Tunnelvisions is Emiel van den Dungen and Raynor de Groot. Both artists keep busy with their own solo projects (Milio and Coloray respectively) but continue to find fascinating middle ground when they come together in the studio. 2020 saw them step out on Moscoman's Disco Halal and Solomun's Diynamic, while they have also been remixed to great effect with influential DJs like Dixon and Tale Of Us playing the results. Now, though, they are back on Atomnation with another superb collection of cuts.

‘End Of Time’ is another masterfully cohesive collection of colourful dance floor cuts that take in pop, techno and synth music and skew them the unique lens of Tunnelvisions.

RKOD is at its third release and once again it gathers together a collection of previously unreleased music from underground veterans and newcomers. Sweden’s legendary Microman, diggers favourite Temple from UK, Ukraine rising star Sasha Zlykh and Spain’s legendary Alex Martin under his Iberian guise.

Having gained serious respect for his releases on the likes of Hypercolour, Off and Suara, Mirco Violi returns to Recline Music with this latest EP ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’, complete with remixes from Nicco nD and Byron The Aquarius.

Opening up, ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’ Mirco delivers a bumping mid-tempo house cut, dripping with warm pads and pulsating stabs. Nicco nD then provides the first of the remixes, offering a considerably jazzy cut titled a tongue- in-cheek, ‘I Hate Jazz Rework’.

Byron The Aquarius closes out the package, journeying through the deepness of the Detroit’s techno spirit where the true essence of his hometown comes through – finished off with flourishes of Byron’s trademark keys playing.

Barcelona's Pau Roca is back with his 2nd release on LA label Pleasure of Love, EP of cool-hazy balearic house with equal parts sunrise and sunset energy.

Roca is a standout in the Barcelona DJ scene, with his party Libido and labels Escola and Bons Records, he’s established himself as a premiere record collector/DJ and a producer in the scene. You can hear it in "Euphoria", a track that shows Roca’s deep understanding/appreciation of this music’s roots while updating the sound and capturing the mood and essence of the title. "Marble Arch" is another chugging, deep italo/spanish house number - filtering in breakbeats, choir patches, and a resonant lead to hypnotizing effect.

The legend Pal Joey brings a trademark sound to his version of "Euphoria" on the flip, lending vocals and organ to a tripped out and blissful vision of the track. "Hope" rounds out the EP, a downtempo, uplifting piece for lovers of atmospheric retro-house.

When Scottish producer Austin Ato landed on Classic Music Company with glorious two-tracker ‘Linger’ and ‘Work’ in summer ’21 he delivered an EP fitting for the world’s return to the dancefloor. Now the two red-hot cuts are committed to wax alongside previously unheard releases from Austin. The A-Side kicks off with ‘Linger’, a pure gospel piano house cut with live, urgent keys and a soulful vocal from acclaimed Atlanta singer/songwriter Niles Mason. Teaming up for the second time with Classic alumnae Dave Giles II (Dave + Sam) on ‘Work’ for the second track, 129BPM of bouncing metallic percussion wraps around a tight groove, with Dave’s captivating talents as an MC and lyricist narrating over the techno-leaning release, before Dave’s essential Acapella closes out the A-Side. On the flip Austin delivers the unreleased heat, as the relentless funk of ‘What You Want’ with its elastic bassline and acidic synth stabs opening the B-Side. Finally, the bumping groove ‘Cherry Soda’ closes out the package, immaculately composed with warm chords, a crackling vocal and chunky bass coming together with power and purpose. Cementing Austin’s position as a must-know producer for discerning selectors, ‘Hot Jams Volume 1’ is a record box essential ready to set dancefloors alight.

Crosstown Rebels welcomes German-based duo Manqo to the fold this November with a standout release: Breaking Hearts. On remix duty is one of South Africa’s most esteemed musical exponents, Black Coffee, who makes a welcome return to the label.

Manqo are the mysterious duo that should never have existed. The result of a chance encounter combined with a creative impulse. Or as the word literally translates, an ‘imperfection’. A mistake. Two acquaintances who quickly realised that the result of their varied musical tastes and styles was a blend of soulful atmospheres and beats completely beyond the realms of their own expectation.

The near eight-minute original begins life as a subtly-building number, with warm pads opening into beautiful vocal tones. There’s an underlying groove to the piece, signifying the hallmark sound of the pairing, whilst shimmering hats undulate throughout. Black Coffee’s remix comes next. Retaining the ethereal qualities of the original, it epitomises the emotive, club-ready style with which he has become best known.

Manqo are swiftly establishing their presence across the international circuit. Their first release, Won’t Change, was a collaboration with Keinemusik mainstay Rampa and it went on to accumulate over three-hundred-thousand streams on Spotify. They caught the attention of Crosstown Rebels head Damian Lazarus soon after, with Breaking Hearts acting as the first of two EPs to be released on the label in the near future.

Marcus Henriksson a.k.a. Minilogue/Son Kite, Kuniyuki Takahashi, and J.A.K.A.M. have come together to create a large scale unit called Mystics. West meets East, three different sensibilities and passions that transcend borders and language. The debut album "5 ELEMENTS" is based on the ancient concept of the five elements (water, metal, ground, fire, and wood), and features unique guest musicians such as shakuhachi, koto, and Arabic violin, as well as King Tubby's dub effects by Naoki Uchida. With the addition of Naoki Uchida's King Tubby-style dub effects, the band has succeeded in creating an original sound that defies genre categorization. The result is an important work for 2021 that will give a ray of inspiration to the current chaotic world situation and music scene.

The weirdo underground live-acid-house duo of Ed Service and Jack Madin aka SHOUSE often invite local singers and musicians to collaborate when bunkered down in their Melbourne studio. 'Love Tonight' is an amalgamation of this working environment, whilst being a cheeky parody and adorable homage to classic ’80’s celebrity extravaganzas like ‘We Are The World’.

Assembling a choir of artists that they have loved and admired in their local scene including Oscar Key Sung, Monte Morgan of Client Liaison, The Harpoons’ Bec Rigby, HABITS, Pillow Pro, Jennifer Loveless and so many more! SHOUSE have created the type of number that champions unity and a shared sense of eternal wonder for the future and became an anthemic message of hope which found a global audience during the great pandemic of 2020.

In the words of SHOUSE’s own Jack Madin “This song is, to me, all about the love of your friends. Singing with your friends. Making music with your friends. Hanging out and doing bizarre projects with all your deeply confused but generous and open-hearted friends. The song is for all the people in Melbourne that make us want to make music. It’s a show of strength. Showing how we can all come together to help each other out, to sing each others songs and pull each other up when we’re down. Even though I wrote these lyrics, it means so much to me to hear all these incredible people singing those messages back to me.” The warmth delivered on this song is arguably tangible!

On remix duty Mike Simonetti delivers a dark acid heavy late night jam that was championed across Europe by Solomun and countless other tastemaker DJs, propelling the original hook into countless Viral Charts. German techno lord Oliver Huntemann spins tech gold with a propulsive peak time belter, while DJ Seinfeld eschews the chorus altogether for a fun lo-fi groove.

A must-have Prelude classic, Starshine - All I Need Is You is a boogie masterpiece that deserves a place in every collection. Original’s regularly trade hands for £35+ so an officially licensed, remastered reissue was on high demand. The perfect marriage of synth mastery, slap bass funk fever and sun-soaked vocals all mixed to magnificence by the mighty Francois K.

Long awaited reissue of the highly sought after debut EP from Future Sound of Melbourne (FSOM), now released by Madrid-based label Glossy Mistakes under the dancefloor oriented series Glossyfloor.

Originally released in 1992, this EP delivers a collection a rave infused bangers with hints of Breakbeat, Chicago House and riding Techno. The all-time favorite “Barefoot in Sidney” gets revisited by Kornél Kovács with a more straight-forward and euphoric approach. Along with the two peak hour blenders, B side comes with an effervescent and powerful remix of “Raving Mad” by the Spanish duo part of Ears on Earth, BF Treatment. Must!

Remastered by Damian Schwartz and comes as a very limited edition.

ArtWork - not to be confused with the cheeky, bass-loving London chap - consists of George Lesley and Soultronix. The South African pair cook up some steamy deep hose jams here direct from their motherland. There is plenty of genuine soul in the air from the off with 'Time Is Now (feat V Underground & NutownSoul)' pairing breathless vocals and spiritual chord work with a nice breezy groove. 'Never Alone (feat Tumelo)' is a stripped back and heads down tune that rolls deep as the buttery vocal melts your heart. 'Groove In London' (feat Spinworx) and 'Without You' (feat TimADeep & Dearson) are both gorgous soulful house heart-warmers.

Berlin’s beloved Budakid makes his return to Moscomans Disco Halal label for his second offering with ‘If Chickens Could Talk’. As enigmatic and enthralling as the title would suggest, the artist creates his own psychedelic escape for the dance floor. Drawing on a love of acoustic, floating melodies, both ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Over Not Over’ pull you in with addictive synths, whilst the pulsating riffs guide the listener into a dreamy head space. At points the EP appears ambient and at others completely euphoric, it’s the perfect display of Budakid’s unique take on dance music and one that knows no limit.

In recent years Budakid has made quite the name for himself thanks to a slew of releases on DIYnamic, Exploited and Last Night On Earth. His last venture with Disco Halal came last year, with the EP ‘Ochre Tuesday’ that took us on a journey through his universe, and we couldn’t get enough. ‘If Chickens Could Talk’ and ‘Ochre Tuesday’ will both feature on a 12” vinyl, accompanied by the original artworks made by the artist himself. With these impressive collections of tracks coming so early in his career, nothing stops Budakid from becoming one of the greats.

On the creative thought process behind ‘If Chickens Could Talk’, Budakid states: "Living in a world where we have the illusion of doing the right thing. But what if chickens could talk and tell us we're doing something completely wrong." That quote sums up the weird and wonderful nature of this EP - born out of an alternative outlook on our lifestyle, the artist questions the world we live in through the power of electronic music.

Solid Grooves favourite Blackchild is the next to land on Hot Creations with the Groove Dealer EP. The three-track release serves up heavy-duty club rollers, moulding Blackchild’s early influences with a contemporary flare.

Title track Groove Dealer kicks off proceedings with a heavy sub-bass and choppy hats as melodic brass tones add the key ingredient. Siempre is next up, following suit with elevating brass notes, punchy percussion and dreamy synths. Rounding off the EP, Inmydreams is a deep and dark cut built for the late-night hours, ignited by the blissful and hypnotic vocals.

Originally from a small island in the gulf of Naples called Ischia, Blackchild is the artist name for Italian artist Gennaro Filisdeo. Heavily influenced by his father’s record collection, he grew up listening to Hip-Hop, RnB, Disco and old school House music. He began to produce at the age of eighteen, but it was in 2019 that Blackchild joined the Solid Grooves roster, which led him to play at statement venues and festivals such as Printworks London, Auditorium Torremolinos Malaga and ADE Festival. 2020 saw chart success with his track Sexy Thing going straight to #2 in the Beatport Top 10 Tech House Chart and #5 in the Overall Top 10 Chart. 2021 looks set to continue in the same direction with a busy release schedule on the way.

It's hard to believe DC Salas has yet to appear on Pets. A kindred spirit of Catz 'n Dogz, their paths have crossed many times and their sounds have crossed even more. Sharing a similar vision for deep, explorative, exciting and innovative house and techno, a release like this was only a matter of time.

Following big releases on Slowciety and Correspondant, Salas eases us into 2021 with four more wide-ranging cuts. 'Le Réveil' rings the alarm and wakes us up. An electrified maze of melodic layers and arpeggios, there's a great sense of mid 90s German house sounds that would eventually spill into the trance diaspora. Majestic, playful and crystal clean.

'Her Smile' takes us even deeper down the rabbit hole as acidic entrails weave in and out of the beats while more cosmic leads layer over the top. Reaching a great melodic crescendo mid-way, it's yet another great storytelling tune. And it's backed by two more late night delights: 'Another Chapter' takes us deeper and darker into the mix with a soaking wet, jelly-like bassline and big pads and chords that are reminiscent of Justin Martin or Ben Watt before 'The Morning Dance' brings us back home. Broken drums, clipped horn leads, a jacking spirit and an acid breakdown you could cook your breakfast eggs on. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight. A release like this can be played at any time of day.

House hero Miguel Campbell releases he debut single on the ever-consistent Hot Creations imprint. ‘Baby I Got it’ - a mouth-watering mix of sexy disco-tinged house cuts with a dose of murky business from Richie Ahmed in the remix.

Kicking off the EP, title track ‘Baby I Got It’ is a teasing disco-house work-out full of funky bass, and shimmering, cosmic streaks. Miguel’s retro bounce, richly weaved instrumentals and down-low b-line make ‘Baby I Got It’ a compelling introduction to Miguel’s future facing disco strut.

Next up, ‘Something Special’ flaunts a sultry R’n’B vocal infused with a garagey housevibe. Set against a glitterball backdrop, the velvet ripple of “Something special sexy wonderful” coursing through the tide of funk-laden disco grooves just oozes soul and sex appeal.

On remix duty, Richy Ahmed brings a dark and dirty edge to ‘Baby I Got It’. Drivenby a chugging, druggy groove and warped distorted melody, this is moody tech built for the after hours. A Hot Natured resident, and part of the British House renaissance, Richy is cutting through the hype and proving himself to be a truly gifted party-starter behind the decks and in the studio.

When first released back in 2000, Tourist was a global success, selling over four million albums worldwide. It was Ludovic Navarre’s (aka. St Germain) third studio album which really transformed his career into superstardom; combining elements of house and nu jazz to produce an impeccable album to chill out to. The album continues to be hugely popular to this day, with the critically acclaimed Jorja Smith doing a cover of Rose Rouge earlier this year.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his Tourist album, Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain has invited UK, South Africa, USA, Reunion Island and France producers, DJs and remixers with various musical inspirations, from Deep House to Afro House and Chicago House.

He declares: “I would like to thank all the people I asked to travel through their favorite Tourist album track. Some of them worked on my last Africa-in- spired album in 2015, like my dear friend Atjazz, who helped me a lot on this new project, and also Terry Laird Dj Deep and Traumer. I don’t haveto introduce highly respected newcomers such as Nightmares On Wax ,Jovonn, Ron Trent, Black Motion, Osunlade and Jullian Gomes. I truly enjoy their passion for music, their personality and musical integrity. I know they’ve got soul!”

With a serious display of deep and groovy vibes, Breidenbach Label establishes itself as a musical force to be reckoned with. As one of the major protagonists of the local scene in Heidelberg, it was only a matter of time before they gathered for a first release. By putting together a compilation of both young and experienced artists from their community, the label is following its vision of a diverse and vibrant underground culture.

Starting off strongly on the A side, the already well established FilOu delivers a groovy, bassline driven dancefloor weapon. By blending floating sounds with piercing hats and well placed stabs, he manages once again to deliver his very own characteristic sound. On top, legendary Marko Nastić can be heard on remix duty, transforming FilOu’s track into a well arranged minimal joint, that lets its dubby bassline and playful tops speak for themself.

Next up on the B side the local heroes of “Amsterdam and Heidelberg” in the form of Robert Tylutki and Micha Darius team up for a high spirited dubby expedition into a rather spherical and hypnotic world. Attaining its touch through Micha’s unmistakeable voice this track gives the EP an unexpected and exciting twist. By picking up the “walky” vibe of B1 and turning it into a running hip shaker rounded out by well-placed atmospheric elements, young talent KliX accomplishes this 4-track extravaganza in proper style.

Cocktail d’Amore Music presents the first EP of edits taken from the experimental theatre pioneer Manos Tsangaris' original 'Elephant's Easy Moonwalk Through The Night’ music originally released in 1990. These two edit by Marseillais artist Lion’s Drums demonstrates his felt desire to explore wider musical territories, which he's developed in parallel with his Abstraxion project. Lion's Drums music is inspired from and pays tribute to the character of his city Marseille: a bit rough though luminous, and influenced by elements of the Mediterranean and Northern European cultures while paying homage to the African cultures which permeates so much of the Mediterranean soundscape. This translates into heavily percussive sounds, in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno.

A force to be reckoned with in the music industry, Lucy Monkman a.k.a. Monki is set to make her debut on Hot Creations this April with the mighty Yurican Soul EP, featuring the vocals of award-winning poet and song-writer Rosemarie Wilson a.k.a. Queen Rose on the B-side.

A powerhouse of a track, Yurican Soul deploys tribal-esque themes that run throughout, with choppy percussion, hypnotic chants and acidic synth lines that steer into ravey territory. On the flip, Ring Ring continues in the same vein with a driving bassline, brought to fruition by the distinct vocals of Queen Rose.

Monki has built a career which spans the worlds of music, sport, fashion and presenting. Having become highly respected as an electronic music tastemaker, she set up her own label &Friends in 2018 and as well as releasing on her own imprint has dropped tracks on respected labels such as Defected, Toolroom and Hottrax. After stepping down from her popular Radio 1 show, which ran every week for 6 years, during summer 2019 Monki embarked on a new fortnightly radio show with Defected, which is downloaded in its millions worldwide. Spotting and championing up-and-coming artists is integral to Monki’s daily life, which she also does by acting as an A&R consultant for Atlantic Records, the prestigious label which represents the likes of Stormzy and Ed Sheeran.

Rosemarie Wilson a.k.a. Queen Rose is a poet, playwright, spoken word artist, singer, actress and filmmaker from Detroit. She has featured and written with dance music artists like Yuksek, King of The Rollers, Eli Brown and Luke Solomon. Rosemarie was named Motown Mic 2014 Performance Artist of the Year and is one of the first poets published under the Broadside-Lotus Press merger, two of the oldest African-American presses in the US.

A monstrous release worthy of the mightiest of collaborations, Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers return to conquer with a lament for our lost dance floors. Those 4am moments extinguished. The silent bass bins. ‘Play In The Dark’ is a track as unhinged as the times. A howl in the night.

The A Side 'Steam Mix’ of 'Play In The Dark' takes no prisoners as it unleashes ominous beats, an incessant groove and Seth’s suitably crazed vocals on lockdown frayed ears. Seth is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive vocalists in electronic music, and it’s great to hear the freaked-out drawl haranguing and destabilising listeners all over again. The B Side ’Troxler’s Freak Mix’ is more of a subtle groovier affair with classic house overtones but make no mistake it’s just as devastating.

Although they have shared many DJ booths and notorious B2B’s over the years, ‘Play In The Dark’ is the guys’ first release together since ‘Space & Time’, their inaugural release for Tuskegee Music way back in 2014 (and later the ad campaign soundtrack for Louis Vuitton x Supreme). For the Bros, this is their debut outing on Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels label, while Seth returns to CR for the first time since the mighty ‘Living The Life’ collaboration with Art Department (March 2011).

This is also Seth Troxler’s first solo studio output for quite some time but marks the beginning of a return to the action with multiple solo releases primed through ‘21. Meanwhile his Lost Souls of Saturn collaboration with Phil Moffa is nearing completion of a second album, with new music and explorations in augmented reality coming soon.

The Martinez Brothers continue to carve their own unique path. From their Lil Yachty ‘SaintLaurentYSL’ (TMB Edit) and, of course, their anthem ‘Let It Go’ with Louie Vega to their most recent collaboration with Puerto Rican, reggaeton superstar Rauw Alejandro, Steve and Chris Martinez keep effortlessly navigating the spaces between the underground, Latin and hip hop mainstream.

Simbad makes a welcome return to Freerange following last year’s brilliant Take My Hand EP featuring South African vocalist Brian Temba. Now based predominantly in Cape Town, the French Londoner producer and DJ is one of the most prolific artists in the scene having notched up countless EP’s, remixes and production work for labels like Apron, G.A.M.M. Faces, Hyperdub, Atjazz, BBE & Brownswood. His association with Gilles Peterson and Worldwide runs deep, hosting regular shows on WWFM as well as traversing the globe delivering his unique and eclectic sets from Africa
to Asia and beyond.

Peaceful Revolution is one of those special house tracks which transcends boundaries, encapsulating an outernational sound in a way that Simbad excels in. Featuring South African upcoming producer Zito Mowa & vocalist Lwandile Zulu who brings a raw and impassioned energy to the deep and soulful mood, this tune was recorded in support of the troubled events from the past few months (Black Lives Matter movement).

Next up we have a track entitled Let Go which could quite easily be the lead track of the EP if they weren’t all as good as each other! This is late night emotive house music at its most sublime. Drop this at the right time and watch the floor come together in collective bliss.

Flip over for SMBD’s Shaolin Dub remix of Peaceful Revolution which pushes the original to the outer limits of the audio spectrum. Sub-sonic low end rumbles sitting in contrast to the ghost like whispers, glitches and industrial noises that pierce the ethereal pads.

Closing out this special release we find the unassumingly titled Soulful Jam, a low-slung groove which sees Simbad going heavy on fizzing analogue synths with a serene synth solo takin centre stage amongst the lush chords.

After over 20 years delivering timeless music, Scottish producer Vince Watson is now based in Amsterdam. Two hundred releases and eleven albums later, his versatile output spans fresh new projects as well as media composition and lecturing. Renowned for playing parties like Richie Hawtin’s ‘ENTER’, he was resident at Berlin’s Tresor, as well as 909 Festival, Amsterdam. Recent releases on Cocoon, Poker Flat, Yoruba, Mobilee and his own Everysoul label. Watson has had a host of classy artists remixing him, Carl Craig, Joe Claussell, Josh Wink and Osunlade. In 2018 Vince began probably his most important project in his career with Derrick May as ‘Rhythim is Rhythim’ on Transmat, reconstructing two of Derrick’s tracks ‘Icon’ and ‘Kao-tic Harmony’. Vince’s own Planet E classic ‘Another Rendevous’ was revived and released on Yoruba in 2018, and in the same year he released his 9th studio album ‘Via’.

Now ‘Via’ gets some remix action from Deep House heroes Joe Claussell, Osunlade, Steve Bug & Langenberg and Manoo. First is a rare remix by Joe Claussell, not so much of a remix, but a live jam with his most trusted musicians, overdubbing loops from the original. It’s eleven minutes of pure live musicianship from the soul. Sumptuous piano solos, percussive grooves, insatiable synths and lush chanting vocals help re-define what a ‘remix’ really is.

On the flip is the master of deep groove Osunlade with a Yoruba Soul workout, delivering a stripped back version in contrast to Clausell, adding his trademark sound but keeping the integrity of the original. The third remix is by Poker Flat boss Steve Bug and his long-time collaborator Langenberg with a seriously funky version of the title track ‘Via’. Using deep chords and stabs from the OG, building with extra strings and typically funky drums bringing the head nod factor up a few notches.

Completing the line-up is French House heavyweight Manoo, with a super smooth version of 'Progress'. His deep trademark groove and hypnotic style are evident throughout. The subtle strings build and long bass lines bring the EP to the most perfectly fitting conclusion.
