Nasser Baker’s talent precedes him. A handpicked protégé of Dennis Ferrer, the blossoming talent is now carving his own niche in the house space. His ascension continues today with the release of ‘Tribes Of The Metronome,’ marking his DIRTYBIRD debut.

“Tribes Of The Metronome” uses sputtering bass and distorted vocals to make its impact, maintaining a consistent, yet driving pace that keeps energy levels high from start to finish. “About You” sees Baker laying on the heavy grooves, with a reverberated bassline, off-kilter synths, and crisp hi hats joining together with its vocal elements for a tech house piece with a classic flair. Both have been sought-after set weapons for Claude VonStroke, making their release particularly exciting for the DIRTYBIRD flock.

Beyond his work with Dennis Ferrer, Nasser Baker’s keen ear for house has been recognized by plenty of industry greats. His ‘Say Something’ EP on Circus was an instant hit, receiving remixes from the likes of Paul Woolford and Rebūke. Nasser’s work has also appeared numerous times on Objektivity, and recently, he was tapped by Green Velvet for an EP on Relief. It’s clear this young producer is here to stay!

Amsterdam collective De Lichting presents the third sequel as part of their collaborative album series. ‘Drie’ emphasizes the euphoric and heated club pieces. The release comprises emotional techno while embracing its breakbeat/electro fused roots in between. In ‘Drie’, the collective shows an edge without losing their grip of imaginative ambiances.

Kiev based label Muscut opens 2018 with an LP from St. Petersburg musician Eugenii Fadeev (Flaty). Raising the attention of the musical community with his work for the 12th Isle and GOST ZVUK labels as AEM Rhythm Cascade, he's also recently released on Udacha and his own label ANWO as Dada Ques. In addition to the aforementioned, Flaty also adopts such aliases as Ocurob and Wrong Water. Under that last name he presents this current release of a dozen tracks, most of which were recorded purely using analog instruments. Drawing inspiration from the music of such electronic pioneers as Delia Derbyshire, Bruce Haack, Mort Garson and others, Wrong Water is an attempt to qualitatively re-think the heritage of the 70's and 80's. Thus, through tireless experimentation, Fadeev manages to create his own inimitable neo-library parable. Full of graceful flickering stars and midnight tropical breathing, Dozen is a welcome addition to the endlessly fascinating world of Muscut.

Following the immense 'Mandela Move EP' from Ricardo Villalobos, Italy's Deset returns for another brilliant musical adventure geared for the more discerning dancefloors worldwide. For release number three, label boss Caruan has teamed up with the Polish born Berliner part of
Deset crew Oscar Szafraniec for a sun-soaked collaboration featuring three brand new cuts and a stellar remix from the legendary Chicago house music hero, Glenn Underground. The project is a result of a close friendship between the producers, completely free of ego and rather a focus on pursuing the artistic side of musical expression and compositions which break expectations.
A1 track 'She's Lost' is bursting with emotionally charged melodies and a crisp, punchy rhythm structure to keep the feet moving. The stunning use of intense synths and vocals at the second half offer a perfect balance between machine music and human vulnerability, a duality between hope and loss - a blissful sound the duo clearly capture here.
A2 comes in the form of 'Voices In My Head,' a masterful piece of music heavily focused on live instrumentalism and soul infused synthesizer leads. Again, the vocals make a welcome return with slightly off-kilter melodies resting perfectly with the rest of the track. A welcome change of pace for the usual expected dance cuts, a perfect song for connected moments late at night.
B1's 'Blue Sunset' dives directly back to the dancefloor with the clear 'club banger' for the EP. Jackin' rhythms and short sharp key stabs give this a truly Chicago meets Berlin vibe while the use of hi-hats in select places boosts the energy to a boiling point. Atmospheric, energetic and a perfect weapon for the prime time.
B2 rounds out the release with an outstanding Glenn Underground rework of 'She's Lost,' which is saturated with that brilliant deep house soul which only GU can capture. Remixed under his 'CVO' alias, Glenn focuses his directive towards that late night blissed out feeling, masterfully playing the keys and adding layer upon layer of texture with each passing moment. Perfect.

With the indeed adventurous Aventure EP on Couldn’t Care More Harmonious Thelonious further explores the depths of his unique vision, merging African rhythms, European harmonies and American minimalism: The title track keeps the same yet ever-changing lighthearted melody effortlessly meandering back and forth over electrified beats while Some Blue Beats is more on the minimalist side, as controlled as eccentric. Ta Ta Ta keeps it darker, with hypnotic percussions, organ chords noir and a big bass. Advanced music. Play loud.

Munir Nadir delivers the 6th release on the 4Plae Blanc imprint. Overflowing with the fun, funk and freaky sounds that the Turin based tastemaker has become known for, the ‘Pull Yourself EP’ is a certified hip shaker - dancing shoes at the ready.

Some of the labels comrades dish out a couple of luscious remixes on the B Side, Oshana bringing a more floaty feel to ‘Talk About Sex’, reminiscent of some sunny open airs of summers past, whilst our amigo from the Miriam camp, Benson Herbert, gets bumpy with his take on ‘Pull Yourself’.

But when the novelty fades, you'll always return to your sanctuary. The safe place where they know your name and the last drink is on the house. Fellow Colonian JONATHAN KASPAR makes his label debut with his slinky track "Renard". DJ BALDUIN definitely is one to watch in 2020. His massive "E.W.B.A." transcends the friendly populism of an ancient Love Parade anthem while capturing the sincere spirit of today's electro revival. REX THE DOG's "Vortex" and TOM DEMAC's "Serenade" perfectly showcase why KOMPAKT is still one of the most played and charted labels in electronic music today. In a scene that is more fragmented than ever these two producers delivered true consensus hits that are cherished on all sizes and shapes of floors beyond genre boundaries.

The second half completely belongs to a whole new breed from our beloved SPEICHER series such as ANNA, YOTAM AVNI, EXTRAWELT, RAXON, BLACKRACHAS, JOHN MONKMAN and LA FLEUR alongside our full time members PATRICE BÄUMEL, KÖLSCH and GUI BORATTO. Danced Til Midnight returns to 2020 with the Real Love EP. Fusing the funk band aesthetic of the original tracks with the reworks from two vibrant and innovative house producers makes for a heady mix.

Side A carries the original funk renditions by Danced Til Midnight. 'Real Love' combines afrobeat-inspired rhythms with soulful vocals and a Sun Ra- like soundscape. The second cut, 'Top Shelf Liquor', continues the psychedelia-infused excursions this time underpinned by a P-Funk groove, jazzy sax riffing and a lyrical commentary delivered with soul power.

The flipside contains the house re-visions of the title track. Kaytronik’s Hornzy Dub delivers a jackin’ and deep interpretation of the track; layering Chicago House-inflected beats and saucy sax reminiscent of Cajmere with the supremely soulful vocals whilst setting these elements against a brooding, sultry soundscape. This remix is full of the Baltimore flavour and signature bounce we have come to expect from Kaytronik.

Byron The Aquarius’ Remix is a jazzy, deep house rendition of the track. Underpinned by a heavy house beat with a hard 4 to the floor kick, the combination of hypnotic pads, wandering sax and fleet-footed percussion make this a tune for both the rapturous dancefloor and sophisticated party goers alike. The chopped up vocal stabs also give this mix the feel of house music from the dawn of the Balearic explosion.

SCDD009 moves straight into the overtaking lane with Skin On Skin, from Brisbane, Australia. Burning through red lights and 909s, SOS takes us on a joyride through the backstreets of house with four murky bone-shakers.
Divided, each track on this propulsive debut is an unapologetic dance-floor anthem; deranged samples, smoked-out percussion, fuck-you-up rhythm and a prominent early Memphis Rap motif. Windows down for this one.

Ready for a power takeoff with Astro? From the beginning, this track sends us to another planet with the bassline. And the hypnotic beats certainly make a spacey banger! Sunfleur embarks you in the ship Vostok 1, for a cosmic ballad mixed with sweet and nostalgic lines of synths. This very smooth groove and these robotic vocals make us float.

Purveyor of fine disco grooves and future funk, Ron Basejam, returns to Futureboogie with the bustling 5 track EP, After The Rain'.

Having already contributed some key releases and remixes to the label, from his 2016 collaboration with Neil Diablo, his first class remix of The White Lamp's It's You' to his stellar productions as part of Crazy P, Basejam gets right down to business across all five cuts.

Rhodes keys glide over soulful vocals and a frenetic percussive workout on After The Rain' as elegant soaring strings lift the atmosphere perfectly. A raw and stripped back bass and drum funkfest shapes The French Exit', whilst on Raise', a heavy synth riff breaks out over tom-laden beats and uplifting vox.

With this debut album Max goes a step further by exploring his inner thoughts and feelings. “2 Faces” is actually a reflection of 2 moods. The first being a dark one and the second being a more positive one he aspires to. All these feelings are translated in emotive vibes all along the tracks.

Every home should have this record from the 2 of the originators of deep House! Virgo 4 were kicking out the most melodic, fathoms deep, complex emotional machine music before anyone else (them & Larry obviously!) had caught up with them & the "Do You Know Who Are?" EP from 1989 is as flawless as it gets, often imitated over the years but never, ever bettered!

Every single track on this slab of wax is a classic! Virgo manage to reach right inside & take us somewhere on every cut while maintaining an otherworldly sense of melody & rhythm, some of the playing on this record is incredible & so accomplished, "In A Vision" for example still sounds like it's beaming right at us from the future while "Take Me Higher" carries it's stately, Reggae-like vibe along smoothly while retaining enough bounce to keep the floor locked in.

Basically, "Do You Know Who Are?" is an almost perfect record. You need it. It's the truth.

Cosmic dance and spatial atmospherics are at the very centre of Zakmina’s productions, as the Lithuanian producer readies an appetizing EP for Dave Harvey’s Futureboogie, backed with a remix from the always on-point Gnork.

With releases already wetting our ears on Critical Monday, XXX and Roam Recordings, Zakmina spreads his wings across three new cuts. ‘Church Of Madness’ pumps with oodles of new beat drums and soaring synths, anchored by a fat arpeggiated bassline, whilst ‘Déjà vu’ is a first class chugger, its drums as big as 80’s shoulder pads, with glacial keys and breezy vocals comprising the seductive sensations on offer here.

The Balearic synth-pop vibes of ‘Running Amore’ complete the trio of originals from Zakmina, whilst Gnork lays down the lino and tweaks ‘Church Of Madness’ into a solid 808 drum driven ‘Ezoteric Breakdance’ Remix. Apollo is proud to welcome Paul Frick to the fold. Frick is a Berlin-born music composer primarily known as one part of the group Brandt Brauer Frick. Stunningly despite a 20+ year history of making music 'Second Yard Botanicals' is his debut album.  With BBF keeping Frick inspired and busy since 2009, other ideas had piled up until a temporary break allowed him to fully dive into them - "While it took so long until I made my first album, it took about two months once I started.Exploring a vast number of instruments, field recording and deconstructed breakbeats woven with undulating filters and gossamer melodies, the album sees Frick drawing on the world around him in a free associative style ; "A word I sometimes had in mind was - Alltagspoesie', the poetry of everyday life," he explains. "The thought that however small and unimportant things and people are, they - or we - all hint towards each other, if not to say towards the whole. The fact that half of the pieces on the record are short miniatures has to do with that. Throwing something in and hearing what it tells.

180gr! This 12" features remixes from Henry Wu and Ben Hauke, two rising South London natives whose dusty house sounds are reminiscent of the jazz-wise swing of the West London broken beat sound, a movement Sean Khan himself was heavily involved in.
London based jazz appassionato Sean Khan, will release his second album 'Muriel' later in 2015. Dedicated to the driving force behind his musical career, his mother Muriel McGinley, the album is virtuosic free, Latin and nu-jazz experimentation, drenched in soul with the help of the vocal talents of Omar, Sabrina Malheiros and Heidi Vogel (Cinematic Orchestra).

This 12' features remixes from Henry Wu and Ben Hauke, two rising South London natives whose dusty house sounds are reminiscent of the jazz-wise swing of the West London broken beat sound, a movement Sean Khan himself was heavily involved in.

On the A side, Henry Wu, a key member of the tight-knit label/ loose collective 22a Records (also home to the likes of Mo Kolours and Al Dobson Jr.), imbues the original track with a distinctly organic and off-kilter groove: a loose and earthy quality which is hallmark of the Wu sound and makes for a perfect complement to Khan's delicious melting pot of jazz, soul and broken beat flavours. Sturdy yet swinging with strong jazzy synth stabs and topped with a child-like, wordless, sing-along vocal, it's sure to be an underground summer club hit.

The B Side sees the mysterious Ben Hauke, whose previous releases have been courtesy of Melodica Recordings, steep Khan's 'Things to Say' in his own murky yet soul-drenched sound, one that falls somewhere between hip-hop and broken house. Not much is known about this young producer, but what we can glean from his work on this remix is a sound drenched in syrupy, slightly sinister keys and a plodding, unpredictable thump not entirely dissimilar from previous Far Out remix contributor Theo Parrish. Like the work of that Detroit innovation, these two young Londoner's contributions both look set to lend a funkily idiosyncratic and offbeat edge to all the right dance floors.

Apollo is a new concept project from me, spread across 3 EPs which throw back to the 90s melodic Techno and Progressive Trance sound. Although my roots are firmly in Breakbeat-Rave, I was also captivated by the big room sound of labels like R&S, Guerilla, Hard Hands and Sven Väth’s Harthouse from that same period of time. My studio is full of old equipment that fuelled that original European sound so I quickly found myself focussing on a bunch of tracks that are heavily influenced by some really special music that often gets forgotten."
