Nancy Noise passes the mantle onto Andrew Weatherall and a motley crew of balearic prophets to deliver four very special cuts for the second release of brand new imprint Beyond Paradise.
Nancy's debut outing warranted Weatherall taking time out from tapping Émile Zola's echoes out of the walls and exhuming prehistoric musical scripture to conjure up not one but two remixes of the sleek number 'Azizi's Dance'. The Major sets his magic hands to work on Nancy's sunset fantasy and delivers a stomping rendition flecked with proto-house sensibilities. On the second remix Weatherall takes a friskier approach for some headmash disco fun, akin to an early morning romp through sun-kissed Mediterranean archipelagos.On the flip, downtempo veterans Leo Mas & Fabrice notch the tempo gauge down to a low cruise and give 'Kaia' the six am treatment it deserves. Finally, label boss Craig Christon and maestro Tim Hutton try their hands at 'Azizi's Dance' on the Project Paradise remix. They up the Latin factor, adorning the track with Brazilian shakes and a layer of lush, sea-soaked vocal whispers courtesy of new talent Gabriella Alfoldi. An earthy bassline goes dancing with piano lines as the track builds up to a sublime guitarra crescendo. Like a mirage emerging from the sea on a blistering liquid afternoon: if you look closely, between the sky and the sand, you will find Project Paradise in a balearic-shaped wave, proceeding as scheduled.

The 04AM A-side contains two South-African 80's Bubblegum tracks, revamped by young dj and producer Perdu. He provided the tracks with delicate intros and rearranged them with new percussion, synths and deeper basslines. On the flip Afrobot delivers two kind of New Beat cuts, making the originals more abstract by some heavy chopping, reducing the amount of samples used, and adding disco breaks to the track Jungle. Handstamped with another drawing by Frank Koedood.

Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic Split Series is back with a fresh instalment for you in 2017 as the boss continues to discover and compile music from artists new and old for the well-received series that marked his return a few years ago.
Focusing on three slabs of high grade deepness for release number six, the A Side comes from a firm Mosaic favourite Dean Decosta, a long-time friend and contributor to the imprint. Hailing from California, his music has always held a timeless quality and subtlety that is in key with the label and Steve's ethos. Stripping everything back to basics, Recon feels like a tribute to the last days of summer and the warm coastal breeze that inhabits the shore in Decosta's native California. Filling the space with warm pads and twinkling synths, the bass end neatly pulses and tweaks throughout as it elegantly moves to a spatial groove that seems to freeze the very moment in time you inhabit.
Complimented perfectly by Within Without, Leeds lad Bobby O'Donnell serves up an instant ace for the B side as he fuses a tough ended kick with dub tinged Rhodes chords, pattering hats and swirling melody: evoking the kind of uplifting vibe that won't go amiss with DJs and dancers alike. Expect some heavy rotation and smiling faces on this. Last, but not least, rising Swedish producer Sean Dixon lays down a fusion of Omar S styled synth jams to dub driven house. An amazing, rare beauty of a track from deep within the Trax vaults, Eric Bell's "Your Love" originally came out in 1987 and features a stellar instrumental version courtesy of the legendary Frankie Knuckles.

Since it's original release it has been a heavily sought after piece of wax often changing hands on-line for hundreds of pounds and it remains one of the most cult Chicago House records and rightfully so!

'Different Sides Of The Sun' was originally released on 2nd September 2013 on Hot Creations / FFRR / Warners. Recorded between London and Los Angeles and featuring guest vocals from Kenny Glasgow (Art Department), Anabel Englund, Roisin Murphy and S.Y.F (Cedric from Azari & III's 'Starving Yet Full' artist name), plus keyboards from MK on 'Detroit'.

Jerome C, born and raised at Haifa City Port in Israel, is a declared fan of vintage gear; always looking to explore the special analog sound. He creates music with a sumptuous mixture of house, disco, funk, and hip-hop. He first hit the house scene partnering with Double Hill for Soul Clap's imprint Double Standard releasing the amazing "I Need Love EP". For his latest offering three new cuts pressed and published by the Spanish label Apersonal Music.

"The Wind", "Keeping Funk Alive" and "You Better Think", three tracks characterized by the analog raw gear sounds, deep house gems that rolls over warm sonic waves and melodic bassline beats. The whole mood brights with sex appeal.

The first release on Man Power's Me Me Me saw FACT mag travel to Mexico to get inside the head of the Geordieman in Mexico. Next up for the label is a comeback record from Last Waltz, the trio with which Man Power first ever released, featuring three new, original tracks, and a remix from the first ever recorded collaboration of Tel Aviv's Red Axes (I'm A Cliche) & Naduve (Disco Halal).

Last Waltz are Geoff Kirkwood (Man Power), Lee Forster (Lizards) and Mick Rolfe (The Great Curve). Outside of their solo projects, Last Waltz have released on labels including Futureboogie, Endless Flight (Mule Musiq), Tusk Wax, Lets Play House, Is It Balearic, and many more. After a two year break from producing together, the three North East England born producers finally felt brave enough to suffer the inevitable studio fist fights and tantrums that have always occurred during their creative process. This latest session has resulted in potentially their most cohesive and impressive output to date, with an EP that swings between deep excursions, psychedelic disco and industrial electro, only to have Red Axes and Naduve take the track into an altogether more low-slung and feral direction.

Me Me Me is shaping up to be an imprint for crate diggers, blurring the boundaries of electronic music and forging new channels for the dancefloor. Future contributions are incoming from Axel Boman, Mike Simmonetti, Chida, Fort Romeau, Hammer, Rex The Dog, Daniel Maloso, Last Waltz, James Hadfield (as Elizabeth Collective) and of course Man Power.

Seth Troxler's taste-making Play It Say It label continues to set its own agenda with a fantastic new doublepack / mini-LP from Frenchman The Mekanism. Featuring eight club focussed cuts, this compendium follows up the essential Acid Love EP released on this label back in 2015.

Parisian DJ/producer and Rinse FM France star Damien Roussel is well known to those with their ear to the underground house scene. He has been DJing for more than a decade and puts out his choice cuts on labels like Berlin's Exploited, London's Needwant and Leeds' 2020 Vision as well as on Play it Say it of course. Looking back to Chicago but also forward into his own sonic realms, he is a fresh producer with plenty to say for himself, and this expressive new release proves that.

'Breath' opens the collection in prickly fashion, with firmly rooted drums the basis of a tune that develops into a jacking monster complete with fat acid stabs and chattery Windy City claps. It's tense and robust throughout, and is the sort of track that demands the attention of whole festival arenas, especially when the clipped female vocals come in. The crispness continues on 'Journey,' which is deeper and groovier, with radiant chords bringing warmth and heat to a track dappled with sci-fi sounds and driven by a killer bassline. On the irresistible 'Da Beat', explosive drums, cow bells and rapped vocals all jump about with more acid stabs and the result is a track as brilliantly lively as you will hear all year.

The hard-hitting, high impact style of The Mekanism continues on 'Traverse', a tribal number with whirring machines and malfunctioning voices, then 'Get It', a chunky and loopy house number in the mould of early DJ Sneak. The excellent 'What' gets loose and freaky, with flaming hits and wild style drums that demand you dance, 'Follow Me' is a bass driven, no-frills weapon, and finally 'Time to Party' will set any floor alight with its old school stabs and cowbells, grinding bass and big house drums. This is a fierce collection of club-ready tracks that ooze class as well as charisma.

Seven Up commits a Barrage of beat workings and synthsmithery with token breakdown section to mesmerizing effect. Bumping feets twist and tap to a surreal take on cosmic electro.. . it's hard to put into words this, so just stick it on yeah
Tribalistic connotations meet mechanical technoid happenings in Within Lines. Remedying funk purveyed in its finest form provide an alleviating trip for the freaky chappies that get down with the consolatory illness. Rhythms contort and muster a decaying devastation, swaying and slaying precipitating a stomping disposition. Naughty mate!
Grey Lodge Smoke suggests an inclination towards pineal imagery, toasting odes of psy-infused headspace and vortex beaconing belonging. Slamming mid range focuses on swing and spacial awareness, all the while progressive low end and meticulously tuned percussion conducts a foray into the uber-dimension.
Cinematic sized Twofold Circus feels like a 2020 Deckard envisaged rumpus with subtle undertones of eastern aural imagery. It's got that GC endorsed thrill that counterpoints atypical thinking; characterised by many a luminary associated with the stable.
It's been said before and it'll be said time and time again, eyes down big face forward and tops well and truly orf.

Already heavy hitters on the house music scene since their first releases back in 2012, Waze & Odyssey continue to carve out club burners with such ease, and their first release of 2017 finds a suitably fitting home on Edible.
The duo of Firas Waez and Serge Santiago have seemingly not put one step wrong in their ascendency within the house music circuit. Be it releases for labels like Wolf Music, Elrow or their own W&O Street Tracks, or remixes for the likes of Disclosure, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaur and Metronomy, W&O have found that knack of delivering sure fire winners time after time.
Already a staple in label boss Eats Everything's DJ sets, 'Down With Tha' has all the hallmarks of a bona fide club classic; if the hyperactive drums and looping vocal refrain doesn't draw you in enough, then the downright funky bass lick that prominently packs a punch really provides the killer hook. The, quite frankly, face melting breakdown surely seals the deal, and we are anticipating this cut to ring out loud across dancefloors over the coming weeks and months.
Competently propping up the release, 'Seizure' goes on a spacey, bongo odyssey (geddit), serving up a rolling, dubby drum workout that culminates in a rather impressive snare roll breakdown that'll have you frothing at the mouth. Snatches of female vox and whistles are dotted around the galloping jungle drums, whilst the elevating key chimes provide the perfect musical lift. Another slice of completely freshhouse music from W&O!

June 2017, Amsterdam, NL: It is with the utmost urgency that we report the conclusions of our experiments with controlled doses of 4-ho-met, codenamed ST004.As instructed, we met up with agent 23, who introduced us to the test subject- code name ben penn - who was ushered into the bunker for immediate testing. In order to observe his reactions, penn was injected with a modified dosage of 4-ho-met and locked inside with only and handful of electronic machines for company.The subject immediately began acting strangely. It quickly became clear that 4-ho-met was increasing his capacity to produce music.Afterwards, penn was able to play us two audio interpretations of his experience. He was visibly shaken. The first penn called: spare hobby'. He described the resultant musical translation as higher level inter-dimensional funk'. His utterances while under the influence of 4-ho-met were captured partly using a device the subject described as a vocoder'. His capability to form complex melodic structures was striking.The second interpretation was titled carrera' and composed during a period of vivid hallucination. The subject sweated profusely throughout and became obsessed with driving electronic drums. He told of seeing purple-coloured ghosts, which he attempted to portray musically via wild synthesizer flourishes and what he said was called a bass line'.It is our belief that immediate action must now be taken in order to control the spread of 4-ho-met amongst the wider civilian population.

This January Istanbul's finest Roit Recordings drops German legend Herb LF's latest EP, contributed by Clone's Arttu with a remix.

Roit Recordings warms up for 2017 with another quality vinyl release, this time coming from Herb LF. The imprint run by Ave Astra (who was lately featured on Bicep's podcast series) is building a reputation for dropping forward-thinking, club-friendly electronic music. The label is building its own sound, mixing deep and dubby melodies with more disco/house-tuned grooves and has been getting support all over the world by the likes of Bicep, MCDE, Ivan Smagghe, Moscoman, Groove Armada and more.

Their latest output perfectly showcases their musical approach. Herb LF's 'OBERHEIMER EP' includes 3 original cuts and a remix coming from Jack For Daze's Arttu. The German producer has been making music for the past 20 years, always delivering high quality analogue-sounding dance music. His 3 new tracks are a mixture of stomping grooves, intricate arp melodies, deep basslines and dreamy atmospheres. There are many influences in these 3 original tracks, making this a really heterogeneous release: from the totally disco 'Von Zeit zu Zeit seh' ich den Alten gern' and the wobbly - bassy 'A Little Dub' to the relentless late-night killer 'Oberheimer'. This June Session Victim return to Jimpster's ' Delusions Of Grandeur' imprint with a third studio album. 'Listen To Your Heart' is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their Hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in San Francisco's Room G Studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 LP 'See you When You Get There'.
Sampling still remains an ever present backbone throughout the album. Session Victim have dug deep for sounds, resulting in a richly detailed and organic sound collage that goes hand-in-hand with their live instrumentation, this time enhanced through several guest musician appearances, most notably Carsten "Erobique" Meyer (ex-International Pony). Smooth guitar samples are built up on 'Over and Over' while on 'Moons & Flowers' the live instrumentals that Session Victim do so well come to the fore.
The treasure trove of San Francisco's record shops proved to be a hard bait to resist and the pair spent a large part of their Californian time hunting for records to sample. Three new tracks emerged from these digging sessions, with the sweeping disco string arrangements on 'Shadows' standing out as a prime ode to days spent combing through bargain bins.
Listen To Your Heart is equally a product of the road. While heavy touring is often cited as a hindrance to the creativity of artists, Session Victim see their live shows as a catalyst to their creativity. Two US tours in 2016 gave the Hamburg duo the opportunity to take track sketches and fragments on the road to incorporate into their live shows and then digest them back in the studio. The playful funk soaked groove of 'Matching Half' captures the sense of movement present throughout Listen To Your Heart and the LP mix of 'Up To Rise', which caused heavy ripples when it dropped as part of 2016's Matching Half EP is an extension of the upbeat and euphoric groove that permeates the album.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald has gone down in history as a timeless classic and is still enjoyed by readers and forced on students the world over. Long Island Sound, the working title of the novel, was to detail his experiences with the two musical prodigies who were responsible for the curation and performance of entertainment at Gatsby's infamous parties, two characters notably absent from the original novel. In his writing notes, Fitzgerald reveals early drafts of The Great Gatsby had actually intended to feature the musical duo as protagonists, but Fitzgerald's attempts to capture the wonder of the performances in writing were inadequate and he declared it impossible for mere words to convey an experience which so perfectly overwhelmed the senses. Fitzgerald's greatest literary masterpiece was hidden not amongst his writings, but his record collection.
