Felix Dickinson Ft. Robert Owens - A Day's Reality, Justin Van Der Volgen Remix

Having championed underground dance sounds for many years now, DJ/producer Felix Dickinson really seems to be hitting his stride now, and on 'A Day's Reality', his second full length single for Futureboogie, Felix serves up perhaps his most accomplished works to date. Collaborating with legendary Chicago vocalist, Robert Owens (Fingers Inc/Frankie Knuckles), the pair produce a standout song that pulls on the very best of influences and delivers a modern day classic in the making. The 'Classic Mix' delivers some classic Chicago house tropes in abundance, Owen's vocals sounding just as good as ever digging into Dickinson's authentic production with it's timeless sound and energising vibes. An alternate 'Dedication Mix' is also served up, enlisting the musical directorship of Mikey Yamada and the live bass & guitars by Tsuyoshi Kosuga, both players from Japan whom Dickinson has forged a creative allegiance with. Brooklyn based Justin Van Der Volgen, supplier of fine sounds to labels like Golf Channel and Boogiefuturo, also joins the party with a version that further compliments the vocal prowess of Robert Owens. Selected DJ reactions: Craig Richards (Fabric) -

David Glass / Timmy P / Two's Tones - Shag Edits Volume 4

The SHAG Edits hits Volume 4 welcoming David Glass, Timmy P and Two's Tones to the Roots For Bloom roster. David brings a big hitter with Tape Deck with its MC sampled vocal, Timmy's is drenched in sunshine for all the day parties this is sure to go off at and Two's Tones takes things on a jazz twist, with clever sampling but always that underlying groove that the Roots For Bloom label is known for. Fans of the previous releases wont be dissapointed.

General Ludd - Woo Ha

General Ludd is Rich McMaster from New Jersey and Tom Marshallsay from Canterbury. The guys met at the Glasgow Art School, where Rich studied environmental art and Tom studied fine art. Their first collaborations were interactive sound installations, but that quickly gave way to all night music making sessions, some of which resulted in this fine twelve-inch. Both tracks have already become staples at Mister Saturday Night parties. Eamon tends to play the heady, "Brothers and Sisters," and Justin tends to play the absolutely crushing, "Woo Ha," but we're sure you'll like them both.

Shan - (you Better) Work It Ep

Second Shan release on Running Back. This one has Chicago's Jack, leanings of New York garage dubs, Miami Bass methodology and breakbeat led rave signals all on one record and made for the dancing public's benefit. Includes the infamous 'Piano Mix' as heard in the Boiler Room with Ata and Gerd Janson back in November 2014. You better work!

Dj Sajko - Cutman

Poland's Father And Son Records And Tapes presents its probably most adventurous release, four outer space excursions by DJ Sajko. Plock-based Pawel Bartnik is a musician and sound engineer, releasing solo or as a member of kIRk trio, one of the most forward-thinking contemporary Polish bands. Here he presents his highly unique blend of slow motion techno, dub, industrial music, folk, jazz and field recordings. From twisted psychedelic bangers for the late night raves through Eastern-flavoured operatic vocals to clicks and scratches from the deepest bowels of the Earth, "cutman" lands somewhere between precise, conceptual structures and free, open-minded improvisation. Different, fascinating and impressive.

Brian Harden - The World Peace Ep

REPRESSED !!
Originally released back in 2001 on Chicago's finest Nite Life Collective, The World Peace is one of Brian Harden's personal favourites among his many releases. Born in Chicago's southside and back by popular demand, Harden's back catalogue is full of gems, but it was after a series of coincidences that we decided to reissue two of the tracks on the original The World Peace EP, and then add a twist in the shape of an astounding remix by SIT, the duo formed by Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia.

Andre Laos - Roundabout

In the past year or so, LPH has increasingly been turning its focus to Sweden, grabbing records by HNNY, M.D.C., and Name In Lights, and remixes from Korne´l Kova´cs and Shakarchi & Strane´us. The label's next release, an EP by Gothenburg-based newcomer, Andre´ Laos, indicates owners Nik Mercer and Jacques Renault have no intention of disassociating themselves from the nation!

The EP—titled Roundabout and loosely themed around traffic signals— will indubitable make its way to myriad spring and summer playlists; it's warm, smooth, juicy, and has just enough kick to make you woozy in the head while you succumb to its infectious hooks as they crawl up your spine and pluck your heartstrings. The fun starts with 'Detour,' a supple disco-infused boogie decked out with punchy keys, fuzzy female vocals, shimmering hats, and carefree drums that are ever so slightly behind the beat. If the track was a drink, it'd be an icy daiquiri, sweating in the sun. Following the original is Session Victim's remix, a decidedly more sultry and patient—albeit shorter—statement. Flush with horns and stuttered synth licks, the Germans' version sounds merrily drunk on wine and a full stomach.

Flip the record and find 'Yield,' another tropical ditty, though, unlike 'Detour,' it's urgent and more intense. Here, the rolling drums are sharp and pronounced, the vocals keenly in focus, and the melodies more rigid, but that doesn't mean the tune won't decimate dancefloors! The 12' is concluded with a melancholic ballad of sorts called 'One Way' that will give you gosebumps as it sways you to sleep (or out the door or into the moonless night, depending on where you're at). A robust and confident final statement, 'One Way' makes it clear that Roundabout is only the first of many chapters to come in Laos' book. Stay tuned.

Basement Jaxx - Sneakin' Toronto (the Martinez Brothers Remixes)

The fourth release on The Martinez Brothers' Cuttin' Headz imprint, the bros from the Bronx come up with some old school flavored house vibes with their remix of the Basement Jaxx Feat. Sneak 'Sneakin' Toronto'. They snagged the remix package from the veteran electronic music duo as a lead in to the Basement Jaxx full length album 'Juno' expected to be released later in the fall on Atlantic Jaxx / Pias. The vocal version features a flurry of different spoken word phrases chopped up and filtered. The Dub is for the vocal-phobic members of the public - a bubbly slice of jackin' house that will brighten the dance floor.

Obas Nenor - I Love You

I Love You

Strictly Rhythm
30.03.2015

Strictly Rhythm continues its revitalised run of release with "I Love You" from newcomer Obas Nenor, with remixes coming from Andres and Luke Solomon.

"I Love You" intoxicates from its very first beat, an idiosyncratic house cut that wears its disco and soul influences very much on its sleeve. Driven by poignant strings and a heartfelt vocal, it breathes nostalgic life into any room in which it is played. The Andres remix beefs up the bottom end, with cosmic synths and a wandering bassline transforming the cut from poignant to powerful. Solomon's Body Edit further takes the track into dancefloor territory, with sharp percussion and an urgent groove making the track fully suitable for peaktime club play.

Paradises Deep Groove - I Love

Fantastic reissue of Paradise's Deep Groove's seminal 'I Love' EP produced by Nelson 'Paradise' Roman. Originally released back in 91', this is one of the true holy grails of deep house. Kicking things off is the incredible deep hypnotic groove of 'I Love', which became a NYC Sound Factory classic in the hands of Junior Vasquez as well as receiving heavy rotation on the underground house scene. The next two tracks 'Hypnotic Flute' and 'Trance Dance' are both excellent but the other really outstanding track is the deep floating 'Inner mind' with its lush haunting synths and intricate rhythms. Top quality house music at its best!

HOT CREATIONS
29.06.2015

Hot Creations deliver their first artist album of the year with the Parisien luminary Popof's, 'Love Somebody'.

Jamie Jones & Lee Foss' Hot Creations imprint has successfully straddled the gap between underground house & techno and more crossover vocal led disco-infused dance music since it was launched in 2010. The fourth artist album to be released on the label, Alexandre Paounov AKA Popof's long player elevates the chic beats and smooth rolling melodies of house music to new heights, opening the world to fresh palatable tastes through tracks such as 'Your Eyes' and 'Lidl Girl'.

Maintaining a grasp on the dancefloor, tracks like 'Pack n Rollin' and 'Going Back' strike back to Popof's roots as a former member of the free-party underground collective 'Heretik System' in Paris. While 'Words Gone' has already found great favour through remix treatment from Luciano, Marc Houle and Jamie Jones and the second single 'Going Back' features remixes from Eats Everything, Lee Foss, Oxia & Miss Kittin and Luca Donzelli & Mar T.

Sublimely captivating and with the right balance of emotion, 'Love Somebody' is a statement of intention for an artist with a heavy artillery of experience, ready to fire in new directions. This album is the perfect combination of hooky house rhythms, understated techno production and evocative vocal melodies that you'll hear everywhere this summer.

Session Victim - Glow In The Dark

Those notorious victims of session return to what we like to think of as their spiritual home, if not their physical one, with the brilliant Glow In The Dark EP, and if you thought Solomun and his neon nights were the only day-glow players in town it's time to think again as the SV boys slap on the luminous paint and head straight to the dancefloor.
First up we have Yes I Know which carries on where Good Intentions left off with their own inimitable blend of raw house, disco, soul and funk all put in the pot and stewed to perfection. We think this track is the epitome of a Session Victim DJ set with the vibe, energy and flow of a two hour party condensed into a very heady six and a half minutes of fun and frolics.
Next up we have Berlin young gun Max Graef in on remix duties, shaking things up in a Box Aus Holz style and fashion. He does a brilliant job retaining the vibe of the original but adds his own unique spin on it with a killer funked up bassline and fat groove for the floor.

Finally, we have title track Glow In The Dark, a classic SV-style filtering balearic beauty which unfolds over 7 minutes into a hand-raising, seratonin-boosting masterclass in modern-day lo-slung disco.
