The first release on Trax naturally came from the Jesse Saunders stable. It was an agreement between pressing plant owner Sheerman and Saunders and Vince Lawrence that led to the formation of the label. Early pressings even had a Jes Say catalogue number etched in them, through subsequent editions bear the Trax cat. no. "Wanna Dance", unusually for Trax is not really house at all, bearing far more similarities with the experimental productions of On-U-Sound and the Doug Wimbish/Skip McDonald crew. Says Vince "This is built around the fact that we found out that could call the Linn drum people and order a chip and that said somethin' - we got our first sampler. When we learned that you could say shit and play it like an instrument that was a big deal then."

Repressed & remastered for 2015 & featuring all original label artwork, with permission from Trax records "Wanna Dance" is now available again to be rediscovered.

Attributed with the second release of the Music Is Love sister label is the uniquely stylistic Quell. The Berlin-based artist follows the bristling authenticity of his preceding releases with a 4-track EP that further cements his reputation for no-nonsense, stripped back house and techno music.
Size 7 gets things underway, with its trilling bassline and acidy bleeps leading the course of the track, until a distorted vocal gives a rough and raw dynamic to the beat; the heavy hitting bass drives proceedings forward, growing increasingly pressurised before the 90s afflicted house chords march in to create a dark, underground roller of an intro.
Monolame picks up where Size 7 left off; an undulating bassline forms the fore of track, brimming over intermittent vocal samples and deep, shimmering chords, which operate as the focal point of the beat. Deep dubbed stabs weave subtly beneath the multi-layered arrangements, which combine superbly together to deliver a massive peak-time track.
On the B-side, Harhead leads with fluid percussive rhythms and sequential kick drums to give an immediate groove-intrinsic melody. Atmospheric synths whirl and bounce off the dubby, warped stabs while the quickening hi-hats and intricate modulations keep the pace ticking at an ever-unfolding state. The energetic, groove-led tone continues into the last track, Where Are They Now. Dark, techno-fused key stabs bounce off the fluid percussion sequences, naturally ebbing and flowing over stomping drums and careened chords. The synths and vocals contract cosmically off one another, delivering a stripped back rhythm with an acid tinged-feel.

Two songs heavily influenced by jazz and dance. If PAT METHANY made dance music, this would be it. "ACROSS YOUR MIND" is a feel good song filled with tension and release. "IN YOUR PHANTOM" will surely get your blood going in the club, headphones, or coffee shop. Taken from the album "EDGE OF SOUL". HOUSE

Marking its 11th release, Leicester-based label City Fly welcome Philpot regular Tim Toh to its already impressive roster spanning DJ Nature, Fred P, Andres, Medlar and Basic Soul Unit.
The Berlin artist is also renowned for his works on the likes of Ornaments Music, Delusions of Grandeur and Mild Pitch, and his idiosyncratic vision of electronic music is one shared with the discerning minds behind City Fly.
'Endlessly' is a track that melds interlinking rhythms with vocal snippets before easing in to a beautiful Rhodes sequence containing all the hallmarks of an absolute floor filler. 'Everything' then features the beautiful vocals of Ranavalona to engineer a track dripping with pure soul, making way for a remix from Thatmanmonkz that focuses on rhythm whilst boiling the piece down to a slice of timeless house.
Finally 'Expectations' is a number exhibiting Toh's avant-garde approach to music production whilst still focusing squarely on the dancefloor.

SOO WAVEY is back with a new 12" from VIN SOL. The "Raw" side features the floor burning jam "COOKIES" along with "SPOILED EXILE" with an appearance from MATRIXXMAN adding his patented techno feel. "PYRAMIDS" on the "Deep" side has a classic moody Chicago vibe & "MELTDOWN" is a dreamy ethereal track with analog chords offset by gentle TR-909 action.

Second release on Versatile Classic with the French duo ! Gilb'r & I:Cube aka Chateau Flight. Comic Race (VER034) was released in 2002 deep athmospheric, melodic flair and powerfull Sounds Instant Replay released in 2000 on épuzzle' album moody darker spirit...Brilliant re-edition !

Bosconi launches his new purist techno offshoot Bosconi Squirts and none else could have been to start the label it if not the mind behind this new project, the florentian techno Don Corcos. The vinyl contains 3 deadly club weapons: on A side you'll find the main version of Joujoube Soup, a heart pumping and mind blowing side-chained techno dubby & proggy track
with a minimalistic esthetic and some nuschool inspiration a la Actress style, while on B side there are remixes by 2 masters of the genre, the almighty Scott Grooves as 'Panther' who gives to the original a more detroit touch with brasilian music influences and an organic - played feel, and the japanese techno producer Onomono also known as Ono or The Blue

Ben Christensen is a multi dimensional figure in Detroit's musical landscape. For years Christensen has played with a number of acts and has collaborated with many different artists in the city from a variety of different musical backgrounds. "Inouno" is Christensen's debut 12" on his newly found imprint Sector 7G. "Inouno" is 7 minute house groover that nods to the classic house sound of the 90s, while keeping it modern, soulful and funky!! Definitely a new producer to watch out for!

No 19 revisit the recently released, critically acclaimed Tone of Arc album 'The Time Was Right' for the next EP. Disco king Prins Thomas and Southern Fried duo Luca remix C & Brigante remix two key tracks fro the album to fantastic effect.
First up we have Prins Thomas, known the world over as one of disco's foremost innovators, he is boss at the Internajsonal label and has his own singular sound that takes its cues from prog rock and kraut as much as disco past and present. Here he reworks 'Goodbye Horses' into an even more lovelorn, dubbed out and slow burning disco licker than was the original. Laced up with a cosmic 80s vibe, innocent melodic stabs and his usual celestial synthesisers, it's a mature and patient track that rewards your close inspection on every level.

Deservingly hyped Italian duo Luca C & Brigante then offer two remixes of 'Love Kissed'. Mouse With No House Mix goes first and strips back the poised and purposeful, low slung and sun kissed funk of the original into a deep and space house jam rich with glowing harmonic melodies and a slowly churning bottom end. A perfect set builder that teases with acid as much as it rewards with its inviting chords.

The duo's second remix of the same track is even more heavyweight and heads down as you'd expect of something called a Warehouse Dub. The duo allows plenty of space around their arrangement for the deepness to really sink in. Their finely balanced, groove inducing claps and hits churn along at an oh-so appealing pace that manages to both sexy and serious. This is a finely thought out remix packages that breathes new life and fresh angles into Tone of Arc's still standout originals and will likely see them rolled out plenty more times this summer.

Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British producer, remixer, DJ and label owner Dave Lee. With his production career beginning in 1988, Dave is intrinsically linked to the birth of house music in the UK. Famously recording under a variety different aliases including Akabu, Doug Willis, The Sunburst Band, Jakatta, Raven Maize, Sessomatto and Z Factor he has created a truly exceptional back-catalogue accounting for many of house music's highlights over a career spanning three decades.

Disco has always played its part in Lee's music: he was one of the first British artists to incorporate disco samples into the various house music styles with which he is so recognisably identified. Indeed, as a genuine aficionado of disco he has few equals anywhere in the world. He's as productive as ever either in the studio or behind the decks today and most recently under his Joey Negro alias, Lee was integral to the success of Defected's brand new Glitterbox residency in Ibiza this summer.

Roisin Murphy delivers a solo sonic bomb for Crosstown Rebels.

'Jealousy' is recorded especially for Crosstown Rebels and additional to Roisin's forthcoming album. This is an unashamed slice of dance-floor hedonism from the acclaimed singer, featuring Roisin's compelling vocals in both a house and disco workout.

Co-written and produced by the great-unsung modern day house hero, The Crooked Man AKA DJ Parrot, formally of Sweet Exorcist (Warp) and All Seeing I amongst many other aliases, he has been a bastion of the Sheffield sound since the late '80's. The single is also mixed by the legendary Eric Kupper, who was a production partner with Frankie Knuckles and Dave Morales and whose K-Scope releases were a staple of 90's American NY House.

"Parrot understands dancing music and he understands me. This is fast and furious; he says it's roller-disco music. The backing track sounded so frantic, the lyric wasn't long coming to me, all I had to do was try to create a vocal as demented as the music!" Roisin Murphy

Murphy has become one of the most competent, enduring and influential figures in the pop, disco and electronic music worlds. The Irish singer-songwriter originally broke into the charts as the front woman for Moloko, delivering music that was leftfield electronic and pop-orientated. Her consequent output, two stunning solo albums, and the beautiful EP with The Vinyl Factory alongside guest vocal presence on labels like Hot Creations and Permanent Vacation have ensured Roisin's enduring legacy and constant evolution as an artist.

In Munich the sun always shines. Even at night. This Pastamusik LTD is the living proof for that. The sonic power even increased after a DEMO arrived in here by Orient Expense. A Demo by a young talented man carrying the seldom name KAAN DUZARAT. Of course, after listening to his tunes we had to unpack shorts and skirts since the heat started to become unbearable. Finally we concluded that heat in winter is a good thing so we gave the release an earlier release date. Kaan is different he's slow without losing himself into the general discovery of slowness. His tracks sound like they were produced at 40C heat without losing the focus on Techno as its main goal. Rare and beautiful worlds got openend to tbe listeners ears. At his hometown, the young man is responsible for the bookings of Istanbuls Nightclubs Otto and MiniMuzikhall and he also runs his own new label named 'Vesveseve' from which we believe will hear a lot more in the future.The B-Side is a reshape (what an un-German word) by THE ANALOG ROLAND ORCHESTRA in it's unique stylish way and shows us how a Turkish Bazar would work in Munich.

San Francisco/Paris-based label Spring Theory is back with its fourth release. Called Sweet Bitter Love, it's a four track EP of manic sample-driven house from Keita Sano, a Japanese producer who's been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints Discos Capablanca, Mister Saturday Night, and Strictly Groove Recordings.

Sweet Bitter Love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of "Once I Found a Diamond." It's an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing Sleeping Bag Records would have put out in the early '80s. Jacques Renault provides a leaner peak-time version — complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass — via his "Once I Found a Diamond (Jacques Renault Trouble Funk Remix)."

Things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the EP's namesake "Sweet Bitter Love." Starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. The release wraps up with yet another curveball on "Bouzouk." Here Sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking NY garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices.

Taken as a whole, Sweet Bitter Love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an EP that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing — In other words, it's Spring Theory through and through.
