Nick Anthony Simoncino Feat. Robert Owens - Some People Ep

Italian producer & Hot Mix label boss Nick Anthony Simoncino is back with "Some People", a collaboration with Chicago's legendary House vocalist Robert Owens. Simoncino's 3 original mixes sound just like tracks lifted off lost EP's straight from the mid 80's with deep, melancholy synths, driving analogue drum machine sounds and Owen's yearning vocal performance coming together beautifully while showing off Simoncino's versatility as a producer. "Some People" is perfect late night House music with a classic sensibility, for the deepest hours of the night or the morning.

On remix duties we have the UK's very own Chamboche who delivers a deep, rolling version of "Some People" keeping things nice and stripped back and adding a dubby quality to his mix while Finnish new school House head Trevor Deep Jr's "Warehouse Mix" keeps Owen's vocals right up-front with some killer drum programming and percussion rounding out the EP while keeping the old school vibe firmly anchored to the dance-floor...

Romanthony - Let Me Show You Love (gerd Remix - Standard Edition)

Romanthony "Let Me Show You Love" (2013 Remixes)

Following on from the much hyped (plays on Tong/Mosca/Todda T shows) and big selling re-works of "Bring U Up", Glasgow Underground dust off "Let Me Show You Love", arguably Romanthony's biggest club hit (outside of "One More Time", and hand it over to Gerd, Oliver $, Gavin Herlihy & Laura Jones, Mia Dora and label owner Kevin McKay for some 2013 touches. This 12' features Gerd, Kevin McKay and Oliver $.

Gerd is dutch producer Gert-Jan Bijl. Under one alias or another he's been making records for labels as varied as Universal Language and Rejected since 1994. Most recently his "Palm Leaves" 12" on Royal Oak (as Gerd) showed that he's up there with Andres & KDJ when it comes to soulful Detroit style house music. Recording as Geeeman his huge warehouse anthem "Bang't" - the kind of no-nonsense jacking groove that you'd expect from Dance Mania - was one of Phonica's records of 2012 and as NY Stomp he delivered "The NY House Trak" a slice of rolling house business that harks back to Black Traxx and Mijangos and forward to Bicep, Huxley and Ejeca.

On the subject of his "Let Me Show You Love" mix, Gerd said, "Best mixes of this ultimate classic are the Crooklyn Mix and Quick Dub. But both mixes do not contain the full vocal. When I was asked to do this remix, I decided to go for the same vibe but make use of the whole vocal (verses, chorus, etc). I thought there was no use trying to do something completely different. it's hard to beat this classic. Now there finally will be a Crooklyn Mix and/or Quick Dub with the amazing verses! I only received the vocal parts, no other parts, so it took me a while to rebuild the track with same sort of ingredients and especially to get the sounds very similar to the original"

Glasgow Underground owner Kevin McKay has been making records since the 90s. From remixing Andy Weatherall to producing Mylo, his discography runs to over 250 productions. Here he delivers a house groove with Romanthony's trademark M1 organs and classic piano hooks.

Since 2011 and his ubiquitous, monstrous Beatport #1, "Doin' Ya Thing", Berlin's Oliver $ has been a huge name. There is an art to making records that are so effective yet at the same time so simple, and when it comes to putting them together, Oliver $ is one of world's best. For this remix, he doesn't mess with the formula and fixes Roman's paean to lost love to one serious tribal groove. Add a system shaking baseline and some special fx and there you have it. Simple. Effective. Massive.

Iron Curtis/leaves Pres Smpl - Hello Ada Ep (youandewan Remix)

Boutique beat outlet Black Key Records return with an eighth release, welcoming the SMPL pairing of German deep house don Iron Curtis, and Leaves into the fold for the Hello Ada! EP which comes brandishing a remix from AUS and Secretsundaze talent Youandewan. "Hello Ada!" is a nicely driven jam with louche hi hats racing atop nimble beats and bass which duck and dive as they bobble along deep below the surface. Fleshing out the nicely roughed up framework are synth hooks, more smeared pads and the occasion vocal yelp as well as some cute trumpet motifs that are oh so subtly stitched into the overall arrangement. It's archetypal deep house with a kick and is sure to be one the label's biggest to date. The remix from insular soundsmith, Youandewan, is just as good but for different reasons. His version has more emphasis on the big rubbery kick drum blobs, uses the vocal more frequently, and abstractly, but glows in the same way thanks to the aqueous, shiny and reflective synths that rise up and up through the mix. It's as elastic as it is fantastic and contains possibly his finest breakdown to date.

Whim-ee - Streets Of Recife Ep

Bournemouth based Abstract Culture continue to add facets to their blooming imprint as it gradually gathers steam behind releases from Zoo Look and Ampers&. With support across these two releases from Maya Jane Coles, Huxley, Eats Everything, Jimpster, Dusky and Detroit Swindle, the next release comes courtesy of Brazil based Sara Garcia a.k.a Whim-ee.

Following up releases on labels such as Night Drive Music, Chilli Mint Music, Nite Grooves and TaoDan Records, Whim-ee carries influences primarily from Chicago and Detroit into her forward-reaching productions that are consistently suffused with a tough and gritty sense of soul.

'Streets Of Recife' is a course combination of concrete kicks, husky synths and mangled vocal snippets that are backed up with a remix from the lauded Frenchman - Anaxander.

The title track kicks things off with darting strobes and a swirling synth pattern sat above a rattling underbelly before Anaxander, who follows up releases on Dame-Music, Quintessentials and Local Talk offers up a warming take on the original rich with glowing piano lines and softly saturated bass tones.

'Sub' then drives it's whetted and cold percussion over a softly rotating drone before 'Before Considering' rolls out an elephantine groove behind forceful, plodding synths and a thickened kick and clap combo that bring another Abstract Culture coup to a close

Edu Imbernon - Fading Down

Edu Imbernon

Fading Down

CULPRIT
25.08.2014

Spain's Edu Imbernon continues his unwavering rise with yet another assured release, 'Fading Dawn' - his second for Culprit. Despite his young age (Edu is not yet 25), the Valencia-based artist is an accomplished producer already, with recent remixes for The XX and Hot Natured under his belt and the likes of John Digweed and Maya Jane Coles as his champions

- On 'Fading Dawn' Edu keeps his usual focus on the dancefloor intact, while also showing a deft melodic touch and a taste for epic sweep typical for his Culprit output.

- With 'Fade it All Out' Edu matches Culprit's recent fondness for original vocals with his strong take. Instantly memorable and anthemic, the A side is bound to be a standout in many a set this summer.

- The B side, 'At Dawn,' is the dynamic synth-driven counterpart that balances the bite with a bit of feeling.

- After last year's 'Fayer' release that truly hit the mark with Culprit followers and this confident follow-up, Edu Imbernon's place in the LA label's pantheon is secured.

Timo Maas - Crossing Wires 002

Following the inaugural 'Crossing Wires' compilation by Toronto trio My Favorite Robot, next to mix it up for the exciting series is global electronic music icon Timo Maas. Coupled with an imminent North American tour throughout cities including Miami, Austin, Denver, Washington DC, Montreal and New York, Maas will celebrate his forthcoming 'Crossing Wires 002' release.

Still riding high off the success of his latest and greatest full length release, 'Lifer,' back in 2013 (which blended trip hop with ambient, sleazy house with wonky techno, and included collaborations with the likes of Placebo's Brian Molko and Brighton chanteuse Katie Cruel as well as James Lavelle, founder of seminal '90s label Mo Wax) Timo has long been a pioneer in his field. Of course, he also runs his own influential label, Rockets & Ponies. The German producer has also appeared on My Favorite Robot Records before with standout track "Dancing For My Pleasure" from the first 'Crossing Wires 001.'

Timo is also a revered DJ and in 2013 celebrated 10 years as resident at one of underground house and techno's most mythologized clubs: Circo Loco at DC10 out in Ibiza. As such, this new 'Crossing Wires 002' compilation draws on his skills as both selector and sequencer and proves few can do it better than this long-standing talent. The mix features 14 brand new and exclusive tracks from a range of artists old and new - some are closely associated with MFR, some less so, but together they paint a perfect picture of the state of modern electronic music

Desert Sound Colony - The Way I Began

At once foreign and familiar, Desert Sound Colony brilliantly scores a nostalgic journey through the proverbial looking glass. The plaintiff vibe of "The Way I Began" envelopes the listener in warm guitar licks and hushed vocals, transporting them to a time when innocence and insecurity gave way to transcendence. The road takes a turn with "Fire Egg", a classic stomper that drives introspection with looping guitar melody and bouncy bass. And before we return to size, "Iris" carries us further inward with scattered claps and a skipping kick, before releasing us into a deep and chugging, eyes-wide-shut, euphoric roller.

Fred P, Juju & Jordash And Big Strick. - Panorama Bar 05 - 12"

An esteemed selector, producer and Panorama Bar resident DJ, Steffi presents the fifth mix CD in the series. Reflecting all the angles of her classically inspired, raw and profound sound, we are treated to a rather grand lesson in House music.
To accompany the CD release this 12'' features 3 new and exclusive tracks selected for the mix, from New York's Fred P (a.k.a Black Jazz Consortium), Amsterdam's Juju & Jordash, and Detroits' Big Strick. Each track contributes its own special element to the equation, helping define the sound of Steffi's Panorama Bar DJ sets.
The technoid-Chicago sound of Fred P's 'Project 05' stands out beautifully, creating a melancholic and undulating mood with its pulsing bassline, smooth flowing pads and surprising non-linear arrangement. Here we find the producer, often aligned with Jus' Ed's Underground Quality crew, bridging the gap between classic US house and more modern, edgy club tracks.
A charismatic hardware-loving duo, Juju & Jordash have really come into their own in the last few years, with 2012's 'Techno Primitivism' LP solidifying their warm live-jam aesthetic. 'A Stab In The Dark' is a bubbling, acidic, freeform jam melting House and Disco into a shimmering, positively charged burner.
Steffi's love of the US's electronic legacy is clear, and so it's Detroit native and FXHE artist Big Strick who she picked as another exclusive for the mix. 'Hayday' is a classic string-led cut in the true Motor City tradition. Cool, calm and wonderfully succinct in its use of textural percussion and shuffling, intelligent rhythms, Big Strick guides us down a smokey path into his gorgeously reduced world.

Bernard Badie - Bernards Got The Funk

Patricia - Side Piece Ep

Don't bother Googling Patricia. Not only will your results turn up fruitless, but you'll also be missing the point of the Chicago-born producer's own brand of hardware techno. The now Brooklyn-based artist makes tracks that sound as if they can only exist in a physical place—whether they're spinning around on a dusty 12" or thumping against your chest in a crowded basement club, Patricia's rough-edged tunes are tailor made for tangible, real-life experiences. This much was made evident in the smoky dancefloor transmissions of 2013's Body Issues release for lauded DIY label Opal Tapes (not to mention his various side projects with the likes of Jahiliyya Fields, Arp, and others), and Patricia takes that rugged reimagining of vintage Midwestern techno to new territories on his first EP for Spectral Sound, Side Piece. With three original productions and one hell of a jacking remix from Ghostly stalwart Tadd Mullinix's JTC moniker, Side Piece is a monstrous 12" built from cinderblock kick drums, soot-covered modular synths, hissy tape recordings, and equal parts early Aphex Twin and Underground Resistance. Opener "Drip Dawn" drops its submerged drum-machine groove like a burlap sack full of sewer sludge and rubbery eyeballs. Keeping things fresh, Patricia follows the workmanlike production with "Hulderhusan", a cut of deep, percussive techno that runs its 808 rhythms way into the red, while synth pads that could have been sourced from Selected Ambient Works drift around in the periphery. "Foie Gras" closes out Patricia's run of original tracks by marrying the best parts of the record's first two songs with dank acid sequences and skittery rhythms that sound as classic as they do vital to the contemporary landscape. It's obvious after just one spin of Side Piece that Patricia is a producer whose identity is merely an afterthought to the uncompromising music the artist makes.
