Stereofysh - The Race
LFV51
Lebensfreude
excl16.06.201516.JUN.15

HouseDeepMinimalVocalTechPopAlternative

"It's been scarcely 20 months since the appearance of the debut EP Wannado' (Lebensfreude Records) from the three affable Berliners-by-choice: Stereofysh. Those months saw brilliant concerts in Berlin, Munich, Leipzig, Bochum, and elsewhere. Last summer included memorable performances at the 3000 Grad Festival and the Tag am Meer Open Air Festival. Remixes from the likes of Lake People, SiS, and Robag Wruhme further established credibility, and with two successful subsequent EPs, Stereofysh firmly secured their position as a band to be remembered. And now it's here: the band's debut full-length album.

The Race will hit stores in May on vinyl and CD. Once again, Stereofysh have netted high profile remixers, including Ruede Hagelstein, Mathias Kaden, and Daniel Stefanik. And once they play the ISLE 9 Festival in Hawaii this summer, they'll be looking back on half of a year of lasting impressions.

Bubbling and brimming with joie de vivre, the Fysh have long been happily swimming together in life's currents—since infancy, in fact, for singer Lysann Zander and producer Gunnar Zander. Their efforts with their first band Goodbye Wavers eventually developed into the band Send More Cats, whose 2011 album Please contributed music heard by German cinemagoers in the film Miss Sixty.

Along with their acoustic songwriting, the siblings have also been intimately involved with electronic club music since 2004, performing both together and individually as DJs. The two also enjoy collaborations both national and far abroad: Lysann has released tracks with New York artist Nicholas Sauser, Istanbul artist Tufan Demir, and Indian producer Pawas. Gunnar has worked with Robag Wruhme on a remix for Paul Kalkbrenner's smash hit Sky and Sand.'
Stereofysh began to take shape in 2011 when jazz musician Lars Dieterich joined the band. Since his saxophone studies at the UdK Berlin, the multi-instrumentalist Dieterich has appeared in projects such as The Ruffcats, Soap, and Trondheym at festivals around the world, including Jazzbaltica, Music Biennale Zagreb, Sydney Mardi Grass, Jazzfest Berlin, and the ElbJazz Festival. As a live-performance and studio musician, he has been active with internationally known artists like Jazzanova, The Boss Hoss, Bobby McFerrin, and Mousee-T. Dieterich's intense interest in the electronic modification of various woodwind instruments has proven to be the pivotal third ingredient in pushing Stereofysh toward a new dimension of sound.

Since the start of 2013 has been on the artist roster of the Lebensfreude label. The Wannado EP was released in tandem with the new partnership and promptly scored heavy-rotation on the radio station Flux.FM. A remix EP followed, along with the next EP of original songs named Zanderdome. On Record Store Day 2014, the Robag Wruhme remix of the title There Yet' was released on Pampa Records as a split EP with Tocotronic, which sold out in short order. 2014 continued with the release of the especially popular track Cellphone' which came in the form of a remix EP, entitled Cellphysh. Breaking convention, the remixes here were not produced by artists from the electronic music scene, but rather in acoustic form by Gunnar, Lysann, and Lars themselves. Among the supporting players on the EP were Lars' band The Ruffcats who, though officially touring as the backing band for Flo Mega, managed a clandestine cloak and dagger session to conjure up a sparkling little soul number for the Fysh.

Navigating constant changes of direction yet pressing forward, all the while keeping an assured, measured pace—this is Stereofysh's specialty and the guiding principle throughout their debut album. The Race is, at its core, a multi-facetted wealth of elements, all combining and reconfiguring to provide moments of magic and happiness, as well as a few goosebumps.

The title track and album opener The Race' invites the listener into its relaxed flow, soon pouring into to the steadily pulsing beat construct of The Ease,' in which the clubgoer becomes as helplessly entangled as a fish in a net. And there is simply no turning back after the Grace Jones' fantastically re-imagined Slave to the Rhythm,' during which the listener becomes just that, and is delivered—heart and soul—over to the Fysh. The album's most 'Berlinish' track may be Igor,' whose relaxed, swaying, golden swing elegantly expresses a nocturnal, transfigurative Zeitgeist. Things get deep on Johanna,' with sighing, sawing sax tones, sad keyboards, and Lysann's smoky voice, plaintively weaving ever downward.

The tides are ever changing, with the vibe of the Stereofysh now more concentrated on performing live. They're working with an expanded band outfit that they enjoy taking on tour. Stereofysh could change their name and their colors, but whatever emerges will result in a journey forward. Only one thing is certain: it'll sound good. Wherever things lead, there won't likely be another band that has so impressively mastered the art of bridging electronic and club together with live music."

Trus'me - Planet 4
PN33
Prime Numbers
2x12inch27.05.201627.MAY.16

HouseTechTechnoTechno

Keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, Prime Numbers label boss Trus'me is back with his fourth full length, Planet 4.Featuring nine cuts of intergalactic Techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed UK artist. Never one to do the same trick twice, David James Wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter.
It is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album.
Where previous LPs have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple Techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive.
Starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on Mars, '1979' is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. Spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone.
From there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on 'The Unexplained', deep and insular Techno on 'Dark Flow' and trippy Dan Bell style minimalism on 'Ring Round Heart'.
The second half of the LP touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. This is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. As well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, Planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

Cahoots Records - Volume 5
HOOTS005
Cahoots Records
excl11.11.201511.NOV.15

HouseDeepChicagoTechVinyl Only

Cahoots Volume 5 presents tracks that firmly stand their own ground. From the deeper A-side offerings of Definition & Def:Play and We Are Mam, to the burly B-side beats of Ruff Stuff and Jus Nowhere, Volume 5 casts a wider net, capturing new artists that embody the pioneering spirit of house music.
Zürich's Definition & Def:Play collaborate as producers and label chiefs, running their imprint Definition:Music, with a catalog of excellent talent and releases including their own productions. Layering dubby percussion with melodic chords and rich, atmospheric pads, their track Synthesizer On My Knees', is a deep venture for the duo and continues to stretch the scope of the Cahoots sound.
Music is the Message' by We Are Mam brings an old school flavor that will keep heads nodding from start to finish. Living in Tuscany with an eye towards Chicago, Marco Celeri, under the moniker We Are Mam, brings his version of jack to Cahoots with right and tight percussion against filtered keys, string stabs and sampled vocals. Chock full of classic sounds, Marco's inspired productions can be found on labels such as Back to You and Legendary Sound Research. Additionally, Marco operates his label Roots Underground Records, releasing underground cuts heavily influenced by the old school.
Flipping the script on the B-side is Grooveat' by Ruff Stuff with a stomping beat, warehouse vibe, and a magnetic vocal that bring grit with a touch of soul to the dancefloor. A collaboration between Francois Le Roy and Nanni, the Ruff Stuff sound sits at the intersection of House, Techno & Garage, with a lookout towards the new school sounds of today. Milan-based Ruff Stuff has quality releases on Layers Label, Kolour Recordings, Release London, Street King and have recently launched their vinyl label, Ruff Stuff Music Ltd.
Closing out Volume 5 is Shoot Back' by Jus Nowhere. Hailing from Washington D.C., Jus Nowhere is the first Cahoots artists to represent the U.S.A. His range of styles and sounds can be found on labels such as Silence In Metropolis, Definition:Music, Four Fingers Hand and White Widow Records. Shoot Back' consists of tight percussion, wobbly synths, clipped vocal samples and some heavy bass that will drive any room insane. A regular in the D.C. scene, Jus Nowhere is also part of 'Rush Plus', a techno focused moniker with partner in crime, Jackson Ryland.

HouseDeepMinimalTech

Now into its tenth year and on the cusp of release number 100, Aus Music is delighted to announce a debut album from long time house and techno tastemaker Cassy. Entitled Donna and featuring 12 stunning tracks, it marks a real evolution in the UK artist's sound and stands alone as a coherent long player made up of very real songs.

Catherine Britton is a celebrated DJ and producer who can work crowds at underground havens like Berghain and Panormabar as much as she can at vast outdoor festivals like Tomorrowland. Her productions are inventive, left of centre house and techno affairs that have come on esteemed labels like Perlon, Uzuri and Bass Culture. Cassy also runs her own self titled label, has made an entry into the hallowed fabric mix series and never lives in one place too long. That shows in the wide remit of sonic influences on display in this singular long player offering.

With no real plan other than to make an album as unpretentious and natural as possible, Donna simply reflects the sounds that have enthused and inspired Cassy over the years, but it did't come easy. I had broken up with my husband, left Berlin, left my friends and left a way of making music and a way of living life,' she recalls. It was too painful to make music. I tried singing and it felt awful. I had to look at myself and understand how much I truly disliked myself.

I had to get out of all my unhealthy relationships with people that were a mere reflection of how I felt inside. Music producing was out of the question. It reminded me of who I tried to be for other people.'
Once the album writing process eventually started in earnest after six years of stop start, Cassy found out she was pregnant. Six months of structural experiments ensued with sound engineer and friend Iad Agabekov, as did a relocation to LA and then Philadelphia. It was here the album was finished as Cassy found new inspiration and passion with her new born son and partner. They, along with friend and soul brother' King Britt, 'helped me transform the album into a more mature version of me and my music. Into the version I am ready for the world to hear.'

Opening with the downbeat vocal darkness of 'This Is How We Know' this album has you immediately enthralled. From there, a deep and moody selection of stripped back but emotive cuts range from crisp and kicking to more menacing and troubled. Plenty of vocals lend the whole thing a personal and intimate feel, with the overall mood lovelorn, vulnerable and honest. There is minimal techno, soul infused house and Latin flecked rollers next to creepy slow burners and delightfully freewheeling and melodic disco style cuts.

All in all, Donna makes for a roller coaster ride that is accomplished and unpredictable, and very much proves Cassy has much more than just effective club music up her sleeve.

Human Machine - 146 Ep
CNS078-6
Connaisseur
12inch29.02.201629.FEB.16

HouseTech

In the history of Connaisseur we can't remember ever having had an upcoming release with such a massive buzz in advance. Eventhough Human Machine has only had one release up to now, their name and popularity are spreading impressively, mainly due to the enormous support by Dixon, Âme and Solomun for the title track '146", which they have hammered in almost every set in the past months.
Concerning the music, it is fascinating how such simply constructed tracks can have such an impact in the club. This is the secret of Human Machine.
While '146' is dominated by a massive and remarkable synth-line, drilling its way into your head so that you may never forget it again, the B1 title 'Drone' is more focussed on a deep hypnosis, combined with a very demanding work on the groove. 'Janus', the closing title is the most airy and atmospheric track on the '146' EP, a passionate journey with an unexpected twist.
Human Machine is the project of Mauro di Martino, better known under his moniker Musumeci, Francesco Sorrentino, Simone Carpenzano and Paolo Lauretta.
- Super hype due to massive support by Âme, Dixon and Solomun. All of them are playing the tracks since months.

Michael Mayer: A simple theme perfectly exercised
Adana Twins: Human Machine EP is insane!
Karotte: super nummern. love it. hab ich am Wochenende schon rauf und runter gespielt.
(No 1 at Karotte's Dj Charts )
Acid Pauli: Three fine bombs
Lee Burridge: A bit trancey but still super nice
Maya Jane Coles: It's a beautiful EP
Gregor Tresher: Sounds great, will play!

Jmii - Thrills
HVN035
Hivern Discs
12inch27.05.201627.MAY.16

HouseTech

Jami Bassols has been a close member of Hivern since its beginnings as one half of Aster. Now, following the release of Noche/ Templo, his two acclaimed edits for NVH, he returns to the label with his solo debut as JMII.

In Thrills, the Barcelonian producer displays a sound that's equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. The title track is JMII's most expansive production to date. An uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. Bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. Tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. In his remix, Comeme's Christian S. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it's core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.
The 12' comes wrapped in a sleeve designed by Christian Schafer itself.

Locked Groove - Thesseus
PERMVAC125-1
Permanent Vacation
12inch25.09.201425.SEP.14

HouseDeepTechNu Disco

The title track, Thesseus, is a stretched out Detroit infused tune with almost hypnotic yet ingenious stabs combined with a strong and moody bassline for which we know the Belgian producer best. This is definitely the kind of track that will work well on the floor and next to it. Meditations In An Emergency does exactly what it says on the tin. It's on of those tunes you put on at the end of the night or when an emergency to meditate presents itself. In addition to the two originals there's also an excellent remix of Meditations In An Emergency by the Italian producer
Clockwork (C/W). The remix focuses more on the hard edged elements of the original and morphed it into something reminiscent of early 90's broken beats/ techno.
It's clear that this Thesseus EP is a powerful extension to an already impressive discography.

HouseDeepTech

Since its inception in 2011, Moda Black has become one of the UK's most successful independent imprints, focusing on passionately produced, forward-thinking electronic music that covers a broad range of sounds. The acclaimed Moda Black album series is the labels sonic yearbook and has been responsible for unveiling some of the labels bigger records, as well as serving as a launch pad for white hot emerging artists.

For the fourth Moda Black album, the label focuses almost exclusively on it's own collective, delivering 11 brand new, previously unheard tracks and remixes. From newer members of the crew, such as Theo Kottis, Zeke Africa and IDAMOS to longtime associates Huxley, Groove Armada and Walker & Royce. Guest appearances from Tuff City Kids, Richy Ahmed and Throwing Snow seal the deal for what is another killer instalment of this ever-evolving series.

From 100bpm to the late 120's, the albums flows from the texture-heavy broken beats beats of J&AG's 1968 (the broken tape) through to the frenzied arpeggios of Theo Kottis & Izzy Demsky. It reveals one of Richy Ahmed's best remixes, an incredible rework from Throwing Snow, and the debut of hyper-talented Scottish producer IDAMOS in its wake. Mixed, and including new music from label bosses Jaymo & Andy George, Moda Black Vol. IV is a carefully crafted, dynamic snapshot of the scene through the eyes of this feverishly passionate collective.

Africaine 808 - Lagos New York / Zombie Jamboree
CHANNEL036
Golf Channel Recordings
12inch27.02.201427.FEB.14

HouseElectronicaTech

Berliners DIRK LEYERS and NOMAD expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma : The use of a Roland TR-808 analog drum machine in every single track.
They programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks , fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by it's own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it : "Africaine 808 " - their third and first female band member.

In the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite African and island funk tunes , transforming the old gold into modern Dj and Dancefloor friendly tunes.
The sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion.
The trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house.

In Spring 2012 they first took the project to another level , turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the VULKANDANCE nights in Berlin.
Today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, Drummers, Percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio.

Kenny Glasgow - Prototype

NO19071LTD
No.19 Music
12inch23.05.201623.MAY.16

HouseDeepTech

Ahead of the release of his much anticipated second album on No.19 Music, legendary Canadian DJ, vocalist and producer Kenny Glasgow serves up a scintillating single from it.
The album comes seven years after Glasgow's last legendary LP, A Taste of the Low Life, and in that time he has found global fame both as a solo producer and part of Art Department with Jonny White. Someone known for his beguiling vocal work and stripped back, slick and metallic tech house style, this limited, vinyl-only single is a truly mouth watering taste of the excellent full length album, Circus Tales, that is to come in summer.
'Prototype' features firm drums that are perfectly programmed to sound busy and urgent. Up top is a melange of Kenny's beguiling singling, wordless and wooing vocals and unhinged synths that will freak out dance floors. The whole thing is full of subtle effects and little twists and turns, as well as playful ad libs from a charismatic female voice, and it is all expertly layered so as to make you want to move your every limb. Well crafted for maximum dance floor impact but also richly detailed with sounds that keep your mind more than occupied, this is another stunning single from Glasgow and No.19 Music that will have the world in excited anticipation of the full length to follow.

Poker Flat's unwavering dedication to the finest underground house music has unearthed new talent, developed rising stars and welcomed veterans into the fold, and the first of the label's 15th anniversary compilations brings together four of the brightest leading lights of the scene. With four seminal labels - Raw Elements, Dessous, Traffic Signs and Poker Flat - to his credit, Steve Bug has little to prove, but the tireless artist has never been a slouch on the DJ and production front, as he's proven time and again. Tracks like 'A Shot In The Dark' showcased his musical chops, and tied together elements of classic warehouse sounds, deep and sophisticated production and an uncompromising techy edge. The anniversary reworking of the tracks made for 4 Jacks boasts the remix talents of Taylor, whose sleek approach chops up the old school piano chords of the original for a bumping, more streamlined result. Another smashing new remix features in the form of Boris Dlugosch's 2012 acid-disco-house hit 'Sweet Talk". Here The Organ Grinder crafts a bass-heavy monster with a walloping kick drum and syncopated handclaps that enhance Boris' acid melodies and make it rough and ready for underground tastes. Two brand new productions round out the Jacks package.

Rivet - Bear Bile Ep
KM033
Kontra Musik
12inch21.02.201421.FEB.14

HouseTech

Rivet is back on Kontra-Musik with a classy funk affair that will be luring us ever deeper into dancefloor delirium. It is a matured Rivet we meet on Bear Bile EP. The complexity of sound and composition of his latest EP, Driftwood continues here.

Sometimes we hear Rivet complain that his production and release rate is to slow. When listening to his resent music you definitely understand why. Rivets music contains all the classic elements, but decomposed, manipulated and built together again in his own updated, very distinguished way.

Bear Bile Pt 1 is the most straightforward track on the EP. An untraceable female vocal loops over distorted bass, a jazz piano lead and complex hand played rhythms. Before ending the Rivet signature is entering, a melancholic melody to contrast against the raw distorted funk. - The ''string'' in the end is, as usual with my tracks, a trumpet. I love working with those, they naturally sit so perfectly in the mix because of their narrow but spiky frequency range, and when processed they sound like a synth with an unlikely amount of soul, says Rivet.

On Bear Bile Pt 2 some serious moog funk works against a free and drifting melody and chords that apparently is a mashed loop from a huge 2012 radio hit. After a few rounds on the turntable, the strong groove hits and a very strong and unique club track unfold before you.

On the last part a choked bass line and a tweaked acidic lead build the structure under joyful piano and gloomy strings. - All out EMO. It was quite heavy for me working with it, I recorded the melody almost two years before I could actually finalize the song. Sad but hopeful, like the fight against bear bile is, says Rivet.

With this EP we support The World Society for the Protection of Animals, WSPA. Please consider doing the same. There are currently around 20.000 bears being subjected to some of the most brutal animal cruelty imaginable. Cubs are bred and held in cages too small to even stand up in. Daily tapped for their gall through and open, often infected, wound in the abdomen. Many suffer for up to 10-12 years before they die. Bear gall is used in traditional Asian medicine, but can be synthetically replaced. Please consider being a part of putting an end to this barbarity by supporting WSPA.

Tyler Friedman - A Night In The Woods
KM027
Kontra Musik
12inch12.10.201212.OCT.12

HouseTechTechnoMinimal

The second of two EPs from talented Californian newcomer, Tyler Friedman, has now arrived. A Night in the Woods EP starts of as a murky rhythmic experiment. When released of its bound, it transforms into a hailstorm of sound that builds in melodic intensity towards a final climax. This is scenic and brave electronic dancemusic that over and over again will capture the focused listener. On the b-side Rivet for sure push Tyler towards Berghain. But now the tool is somewhat different. Rivet transforms the cinematic original into a very dirty and dry party stomper.

Brian Ring - Movements Ep
RB058
Running Back
12inch09.11.201509.NOV.15

HouseTech

Debut release from Brian Ring. Raised in Cork on a diet of US-American house music and disco oscillating between Sylvester and Glenn Underground, while sneaking into clubs underaged (see Sir Henry's for further reference), Ring was baptised by by David Mancuso and Theo Parrish in London (thank you Easyjet), while his record collection grew and grew. Living in Berlin now, an epiphany in some remote parts of Australia (it was 42 degrees!) resulted in him following his own path in making music. So, here we go: The Movements EP' brings together Mike Dunn (sample has been cleared, folks), Timothy Leary and Tee Scott, puts disco roller skates on heavy-legged deep house and is most of all as much fun as it is sincere. All in a certain way that is personally his.

Dapayk & Padberg - Silent Fireworks
MFP070
Mos Ferry Prod.
12inch25.03.201425.MAR.14

HouseMinimalTech

In September 2013 Mo's Ferry presented the fourth album 'Smoke' by Dapayk & Padberg. Dark, gloomy and atmospheric - it should be more listening, than dance. Now, with the release of the first remixes the Berlin-based duo as well as renowned artists from the Mo's Ferry label family serve the dancefoor, again. Since the release of the album their track 'Silent Fireworks' has been a candidate for a 12' single. And a remix by Marek Hemmann and another edit by Dapayk complete this vinyl perfectly. Marek Hemmann turns the original in a lively, ear-catching hymn for every sun worshipper. He makes use of the full toolbox from ultra harmonic basslines to pleasing melodies. Dapayk sat down again and formed a new version of this track with focus on danceability. Very laid-back the remix grooves into your ear. But it keeps the longing mood of the original version by spreading the lead vocals in far distance. The second track on the b side is the album version, for comparison.
