This March will see the Leftroom imprint offer up 'Call Of The Cuckoo', a two-tracker release from ViVa Music's very own Steve Lawler.
Steve Lawler has been at the top of his game for close to two decade now having been DJ'ing in Ibiza, London and further afield since the mid 90's, 2006 saw the launch of his ViVA Music imprint, which over the years has welcomed many of today's tastemakers onto the roster. To date Steve retains a heavy touring and release schedule, with his ViVa Warriors brand spanning the globe and regular output coming via leading imprints in the industry like Hot Creations, where he delivered the 'House Record' EP in 2014 and here he adds another driving force to his affiliations, namely Leftroom.
Title cut 'Call Of The Cuckoo' opens up the two tracker and in typical Steve Lawler fashion we're treated to an amalgamation of rugged bass tones, penetrative, unfolding drum programming and cleverly chopped vocals. The end result is a powerful dance floor cut as you'd expect from such a seasoned producer.
On the flip side Lawler offers up 'Can't Stop', which lays its focus on a heavily swung drum groove, chuggy bass sequences and wandering arpeggio licks to round things off on a raw, up-tempo tip.

Cine! Vaal's second release on Baastard which was a blatant example of his non conformist approach towards electronic music. Having been picked up and played by many - we at Baastard HQ thought it only make sense to allow those DJs to remix Vaal's blood, toil, tears and sweat.
Always looking out for fellow Baastards, we had word that numerous hail from Italy. There we found the exact likeness of ourselves in the form and friend Luca Cazal (Hot Natured. Infinity Ink.) Luca (with help from Matteo Milleri of Tale of Us fame) keeps true to the original anthemic melody but adding darker dubbier bottom end. Our journey to Italy brought more fruits in the form of forward thinking brotherhood, Mind Against. This mix is their best work since the incredible Atlant EP (Life and Death) - a hypnotic/melodic mind trip. We also found a baastard closer to home in the form of Been Hoo. We are extremely proud of his take on Vaal's bubbling techno, remixing it into - an atmospheric house jack'er which brings the funk to the foreground.

Ghost Culture returns to Phantasy with 'Safe/Multiply'. An unashamedly club-rooted double single, both tracks find Ghost Culture's expert electronic manipulation in more direct mode, recalling the tension and euphoria of early experiments 'Red Smoke', 'Half Open' and 'Understand'.
'Safe' wastes little time in exploring the more acidic soul of Ghost Culture's unmistakable sound. Grinding out a complex and uncompromising 303 over a landscape of sound that is ethereal and absorbing all on its own, the track subtly builds to an overwhelming and enrapturing breakdown, leveling out while having lost none of its ecstatic energy.
Meanwhile, 'Multiply' creates a stunning build and release, conjuring an atmosphere that is easy to get lost in. An occasional spoken word interjection of the track's telling title guides a delicate but powerful mix of punching drums amid a wilfully psychedelic escalation of synths. DJ Ralf is the Italian icon who runs the much loved Laterra Recordings label and management, and is now back with 'Er Suonone', a new track from Margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. Anyone who has heard the legendary DJ Ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary Bella Ciao party and holds a cult residency in Cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. As such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. Margot, of course, is an Italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, Les Disques de la Mort, Hell Yeah and Border Community and run their own Margot Records label. 'Er Suonone' is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. Monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. It's the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

Cocoon Recordings is proud to present the latest instalment in their Dots & Pearls compilation series. For the first time, this third edition-which is a retrospective of sorts for the label- will come in mixed CD format and will feature some brand new and unreleased tracks that will also come as a 12 vinyl release. The artist mixing it up this time is Daniel Stefanik who also includes four of his own edits. Daniel Stefanik is a DJ and producer from Leipzig who has been at the top of his techno game for more than a decade. In that time he has put out many LPs and 12s on labels like Moon Harbour, Mobilee and of course Cocoon and is a regular at Cocoon nights around the world. Once again here he shows real flair in plotting a seventy minute journey through hot modern techno. It all starts with Daniel's owns edits of Guido Schneider & Andre Galluzzi's "Mario" merged with Tim Green's big label smash "Eclipse" The two blend perfectly and get things off to a fine start before the first exclusive 'Music On My Mind' by Subb-an really gets things going. Virginia steps up with her first full-length on Ostgut Ton, playfully answering all questions and rhetorics about love, lust and life with her singing on eleven new songs. Titled Fierce For The Night and co-produced by renowned artists Dexter, Martyn and Steffi, the album offers a very personal insight to her inner self while drawing from club culture's long and rich history.
Love, longing and lightness are the superior motifs of my album,' Virginia says, they're universal human emotions, but also part of the classic House music narrative.' There are two hearts beating in her chest: being an experienced DJ and a longstanding resident of Berghain's Panorama Bar on the one hand, and her other self, the vocalist, producer and songwriter on the other. My challenge was writing an album that works as well on the floor as it does in a home-listening context, that consists of songs rather than tracks,' she continues. Electronic music doesn't necessarily need a political message. On Fierce For The Night I've focused on club culture's basic principles: found and lost love, frenzy and extreme emotions.' You can fall in love with a person everywhere, but within club culture there are more abstract sentiments involved: The fierceness between crowd and DJ, the togetherness between people on the dancefloor, the love for a moment when people connect with a tune. What I like about the word 'fierce' is its ambiguity, in a positive and a gloomy way. Overall it has an explosive connotation, it's connected to the history of House music, divas and ballroom culture and stands not only for freedom and poise but also for challenges.'
After her first two solo EPs with Ostgut Ton the idea of putting her vocals more into the foreground grew inside Virginia. Throughout the years I've collected many notes and sketches on the road that I always wanted to write up.' Having worked on songs for many years before and having collaborated with others was another motivation to elaborate her songwriting and put it into a new context.
When I've approached a song from the music itself rather than the full lyrics, it was usually me improvising, humming along in a kind of fake English. Funnily most times when I choose this gibberish writing approach it all adds up in the end: the phonetic flow makes it work.' While lyrics are not random in the end, Virginia uses her voice as another instrument in the writing process. At times one word I pick is the starting point to develop the rest of the song and to add meaning. That's a different approach to songwriting, but it's a very much flow-driven way of writing.' An approach that also refers to and reflects Virginia's craft as a DJ, where records come in one at a time and not only need to connect to the one before and the one after, but also to the floor.
Yet Fierce For The Night isn't just a solo, but also a group effort. The eleven pieces on this longplayer are co-produced by Dutch artists Dexter, Martyn and Steffi, each bringing their individual compositional skills and musical styles to the table, with influences ranging from Funk, Boogie, Disco, UK Garage, Drum & Bass and House. Written and produced during various studio sessions, Fierce For The Night resulted in a broad range of melodies, rhythms and musical moods, while preserving a coherent vibe. It was important that the album didn't come out as a patchwork with every track having a distinctive signature sound. For us as a team there's a mutual understanding and an artistic vision we all share. We speak the same musical language. This isn't just limited to the studio, but also extends to the live context, as Dexter, Steffi and me will be performing live and touring the album as a group.'
Besides the personnel, Fierce For The Night is, music-wise, an album deeply rooted in club culture while staying approachable for listeners that might not be regulars on the dancefloor. A Pop album that playfully defies the schematic formulas of Pop music. There is dancing and muscles being flexed in Bally Linny', Lies', Funkert' and Raverd' (both serving as the album's lead-single on 12 vinyl), Follow Me' and the eponymous Fierce For The Night' - cheerful and energetic songs that can be played out over the course of a club set, but just as well click with home stereo or radio listeners. There are the bouncy, more break-heavy cuts such as 1977' and Obstacle'. And there are slower paced, balladesque songs like Believe In Time', Subdued Colors' and Han' that underline the bleak moments of life. All held together by Virginia's soothing, smooth and soulful singing voice.
And while all songs have personal stories behind Virginia's songwriting, there is also a classic Pop music narrative: making music approachable and offering meaning that people can connect to their own lives. Fierce For The Night is therefore first and foremost an album about relationships: A very personal reflection of Virginia's own experiences so far, but also about the once intimate, now loose connections between everyday people. Firmly placed in House culture, yet with open arms towards Funk and Pop culture, Fierce For The Night has a basic message: Go out, enjoy yourself, loosen up and take what's good for you.'

Brassica returns with a brand new 12' single for Civil Music that includes new track'Get Down' and a remix of 'Tears I Can Afford' from Belfast duo Bicep.
'Get Down' arrives simultaneously with 'Nature Isn't Mute', a deluxe extend- ed edition of 'Man Is Deaf', the producers debut album praised by Dazed & Confused and De:Bug and nominated for Album of the Year at the DJ Mag awards. 'Nature Isn't Mute' completes the Terence McKenna quote the album was named after and contains 7 additional tracks.
On 'Get Down' Michael Wright shows he hasn't lost any of that Brassica mag- ic with a heady 6 minute workout. As the track sprawls and unfurls, various elements come in and out of play——hinting at the foundations of the Brassica sound——with Wright guiding the listener along for a joyous ride. The single is backed by a remix of album track 'Tears I Can Afford' courtesy of Belfast duo Bicep who embrace the occasion fully by extending the original to 8 min- utes and playing with its acid elements in ne fashion.
Happier in the shadows than under the glare of projectors, Brassica continues to re ne a unique sound and approach that has made him a favorite of your favorites.

MK aka Marc Kinchen should need no introduction, he still is the master of the finest Dubs and Remixes in the House business for more than two decades. His 1991 track Strider remained an obscure Detroit Techno classic only for those who know and were lucky enough to get hold of the a rare test pressing of MK's first release Get It Right! on his own imprint called Masahiro Records which later became Area 10. However Strider didn't made it to the official release and was replaced by another track, as years gone by a video of this true gem caught a lot of attention and leaded to this reissue eventually. The track was remastered and comes with an additional extended version edited by Mojuba's very own Oracy. Enjoy this almost forgotten piece of Detroit music history!
