On November 13th, PNN Records will release the debut album of its most enigmatic artist,
myr. 'Diamondbacks Make Wonderful Pets' is more than just a strange name, it nine tracks represent an exciting evolution in myr.`s trajectory as an artist. Following his debut EP 'Nobody knows Avalon' myr. seems to have dug deep and discovered another level to his sound. Each of the tracks on the record are confidently offbeat and precisely composed.
'A Little-Bitty Bowl (with B.Hotton)', mixes thunder sound-effects with glitchy synth bleeps, layering them above darker tones which build to a perfect storm in the middle. This 10 minute track fails to get boring and is representative of the album as a whole. myr.`s ability to carry off strange hybrids is what makes his music unique. From the ghostly warbles of 'I Think I Hear Them Coming' to the sunnier sounds of 'Eleanor', myr.`s disregard for the norm has lead to an exceptional record that surprises at every turn.

The return of Wasserfall to the Workshop brings a bunch of well-informed, beautifully executed & idiosyncratic tunes that represent our man so well. Charlie, the opener is kind of oddball, jazzed out, abstract house with a strange Charlie Parker homage. Stoned mumbles murk around ideally tuned rimshots and double bass flecks that 'cheekily' plod about sounding like a stumbling one man band. Solid and bumping, Semidaler is gloriously defined by dense mysticism. Sumptuous sample work clocked by a deliciously repetitious and evolved sub pulse.
The similarly veined Tardigrades yields tearduct affecting allure. Intimately expansive, on the rest-assuring tip!
Sobering Voluspaa's funk eclipses it's melancholy vibe of solitary plight with a back room smoke up. Enlisting a heads down arm rubs, a delicate transcendance and A GROOVE.
Conglomorate delivers another vibe to hug the downstairs wall by. Its ability to hold a moment makes 7 minutes feel like 5 seconds. Tackle indeed for the basement bound.

Hypercolour release Leeds based Ewan Smith to flourish into his first full release in more than a year. Appropriately arriving on the cultured HypeLTD, the four tracks find him moping in dreamy melodies,
lazy underwater beats and soothing circular rhythms.
Opener 'Disarray' features the producer's trademark knocking beats under liquid synths that plunge down into melancholy before rising up through the horizon like a mid-winter sun.
A female coo adds more heavy heartedness in the subtlest of ways and Smith manages to coax some sweet sadness from his TR303 before 'Awn' stands a bit more proud.
The pads are lush, the 707 percussion feather light and the beats splutter and stutter as another deft sample adds an element of heavenly vocal purity.
On the flip, 'Undrstnd' has a bed of buried deep kicks à la Fred P, the light dusting of percussion comes from off in the distance and eventually an untethered, oversized square bassline sprays about and starts
a chain reaction where pools of synths implode and explode in vast underwater caves.
'0500' is another of Smith's more direct cuts, frictionless kick-clap combos echo off to infinity below you as panning, spiralling synths and lush splashes of hi hats work to suspend you right in the midst of it all.
On the cusp of breaking through since forever, this EP will likely be the assured sonic statement that sees Youandewan properly enter the discerning public's conscious at large.

'Le Tchadien', originally released in 2008 on Mr Raoul K's critically acclaimed 12 'Himalaya', gets the DoubleK# (Mr Raoul K & Kaito) treatment. While the original track was a rather short and lush piece of afro-funk fuelled house, the reprise explores some whole new territories. Soon after the relaxing intro the track takes a sharp turn that leads listeners and dancers into foggy darkness. But instead losing itself and all hope, DoubleK# show that there is light and hope even behind the darkest shadows. It's all about keeping your composure and keeping your head up. As a special gift for the creative Djs out there, the flipside contains a beatless reprise, ready to be blended with your favorite beats. Enjoy your vinyl.

it seems lately that the techno world has opened a bit, allowing a fresh breeze from jazz, pop and vocals to blow through the window. at the same time it also lends to popular music a fine dose of electronic emotion. The longtime Freude-am-Tanzen artist marek hemmann is recognized since his first release at the beginning of the millennium as a great tone-romantic amongst the techno live artisans.

Channeling the energy echoing off dancefloors along his path, Reinier Zonneveld has been on a steady slope rolling out dance igniting productions while touring an intricate live set. Megacity Servant, the artist's third studio effort, stands as a coherent 16-piece techno outfit tinged with experimental tones while playfully deconstructing classic acid and disco fragments. Coming from a classical music background, Reinier's style of production ranges from cavernous powertracks to more concise trips subdued with melancholic piano-stemmed soundscapes, rounding up to a signature sound that is evident as it is enveloping.
Techno mainstay vocalist Cari Golden makes a notable appearance on Things We Might Have Said. Having previously teamed up with sonorous names like Pan Pot, Fur Coat & Coyu, Golden's stellar vocals and skillful lyrics shine paired with Zonneveld's production prowess. The production-vox chemistry is instant, as the track mesmerizes from the get go. Seizing attention for the full length of the track, the entire arrangement seduces the listener, making for a clamorous earworm. EHT unveils a heavy-hitting resolution, as the artist layers on hefty polarizing synths. The cut boasts a powerful arrangement that is unsettling and playful at the same time, diving into dark techno realms. Megacity Servant makes use of the classic Roland SH-101's ability to emit a nearly tridimensional sound ray, unfolding newer details with each listen. The relentless melody, padded with grave synth arrays, establishes a melancholic mood, gradually depicting the auditive struggle of its title-named character.

While many US producers from the second house wave of the 90s are looked at like demigods, others have remained partly in the shadows, and considerably underrated given their achievements. Anthony Nicholson is one producer who belongs to the latter category, but one which we've been supporting since day one of Juno. The man came to prominence thanks to a fruitful relationship with Ron Trent, and also to a whole heap of quality releases for known imprints like Peacefrog, Prescription, and Nite Grooves. This week, however, he's up on his own highly underrated Circular Motion, spear-headed by the excellent "Miquifaye Studio Rewerk", a tribal house groove with a deep, wondrous backdrop of synth exploration. "Beat Pad Apella" is a jazzier piece of music, an enticing house chiller with plenty of musical nuances that bounce off its full, intricate groove. Excellent - don't overlook this one...

Invisible, Inc pull out the stops with their most dancefloor-friendly release to date which comes courtesy of Strange Culture aka Glasgow-based DJ GK Machine. The EP features 4-tracks all built around the classic arpeggiators and self-oscillating filters of two synth heavyweights going head to head: a customized Jupiter-4 meeting a seriously hot-rock-burned Jupiter-8.I set myself this challenge, well, limitation really - to make a themed EP of tracks all using the JP-4 arp, which I then expanded to include the JP-8 arp. I've been reading a lot of sci-fi too lately so the titles and general cosmic-ness are 'space' related in some way. I like Ian M. Banks' idea of advanced civilizations and/or species 'subliming' once the physical world leaves nothing remaining unachievable, basically leaving the known dimensions of space and time behind to take up residence in several higher dimensions. I'm fully aware we humans aren't quite there in that respect and are still rather primitively running around shooting ourselves but it's a nice idea to think of a world where we realise we are all one and the same and are therefore able to step back and focus on what's important rather than the squabbles, wars and petty day-to-day crap that seem to so belittle our rather amazing existence.Getting plays from JD Twitch (Optimo), Prins Thomas (Internasjonal/Full Pupp), Thomas Von Party (Multi Culti), Manfredas (Les Disques De La Mort)n

Hercules & Love Affair return to the fray with 'Controller', a pulsing, propulsive new song that signals the first salvo from their long-awaited new album. Featuring The Horrors' Faris Badwan on vocals, it takes the Hercules' disco-house heritage and fuses it with starker post-punk stylings. A taster both sonically and aesthetically of the new album, Controller connects new wave, post-punk and 80s electro within the clubland realm of Hercules & Love Affair. Also featured is Tuff City Kids Italo-Disco inspired remix, and Mike Simonetto homage to early 90's West Coast Break-beat House, and then there is the superb Dub of the original....What a package!
Hearing the The Horrors' live version of Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle's 'Your Love', Andy realised he'd found a rock artist willing to engage with dance culture's history. With its underbelly of seamy '80s electro-pop yet recalling early house records by the likes of Lil Louis and Bam Bam, 'Controller''s sub-dom, master-and-servant roleplay in the lyrics work perfectly with Faris vocals delivery creating something truly quiet special.

Ever since John Talabot released his debut single 'My Old School' for Permanent Vacation in
2009 he has been on an ever-increasing rise as both a producer and a DJ - and as a talent
you simply cannot ignore.
If his debut introduced the world to his style, his follow-up 'Sunshine' was the track that made
people really sit up and take notice. Support and praise came in from the likes of James
Murphy, Âme and Jamie xx and the natural evolution of awareness was well on its way for the
native Catalan.

For their first release of 2017, Phuture Shock Excursions venture further afield with an accomplished remix package, featuring two reworks of Nubian Mindz'(Colin Lindo) soulful house gem 'Somebody Else' - which appeared in its original form on last years 'EXCURSIONS' # 3 split EP.
On this bold occasion the Bristol imprint have enlisted the masterful talents of Cavern of Anti-Matter - the latest side project led by Stereolab co-founder Tim Gane. Having so far remixed songs by mainly indie-rock artists, the Berlin-based outfit turn their hand to the disparate realms of underground dance music for the first time. Also lending their seasoned expertise and going against the grain is Sean O'Hagan - the frontman of experimental indie-pop stalwarts The High Llamas.
Residing on the A-side is Cavern of Anti-Matter's epic reconstruction, which eschews the synth- heavy kosmische explorations they're widely known for, in favour for a more dance floor-leaning direction that takes Lindo's vocals on a funky, kaleidoscopic trip across the galaxy via 80s Detroit. Laced with crisp drum machine beats, groovy analogue synth lines aplenty and lush shimmering chords reminiscent of Gane's former groop, it sits somewhere between the raw electro-funk of Cybotron and quite possibly what The Neptunes would sound like if they made techno. While on the flipside Sean O'Hagan serves up a dreamy dub, where select fragments of the original vocals float across soothing passages of live instrumentation. Before the arrangement seamlessly flits between moments of jazzy electric piano grooves and swirling organs, through to melodic baroque pop interludes in 3/4 time - that probably wouldn't sound out of place in the scene of a Pixar animated movie. Shy of just three minutes in length, it's delightfully short and sweet, yet leaves you wanting more upon every listen.
