Rob Shields is set to release debut album 'Green' on 27th January 2017 via new imprint YEN, a sister label of Needwant.

'Green' demonstrates Shields' desire to break away from the DJ/producer template. This is introspective music, music that aims to make the listener feel, to think, to conjure up images, to trigger memories, real or otherwise. The result of something that feels incredibly warm. It's aim is to provoke thought without words.

Shields' production style, favouring guitars and worn bits of hardware over cutting edge technology, contributes to much of the warmth. Much of the percussion is made up of his collection of instruments recorded from his East London home. Extracts of various field recordings lies throughout the album, with sources ranging from the exotic rivers and jungles in South America ('Green', 'Sleepness'), to the mundane objects found in his flat (a bath in 'Water', a sofa in 'Adjani').

The focus on warmth and texture has been documented on his releases to date, the melancholic 'Slum Room' single, the bubbling balearic 'Autocalm' EP and last year's dubby, slo-mo single 'Shards', gaining praise from artists like Maya Jane Coles, Groove Armada and Soul Clap.

Will Saul's AUS Music has seen a number of new additions to the roster this year as the label continues to prosper. Now - adding to names such as Timothy Blake, Geeman and Escape, AUS welcome in another auspicious producer by the name of Fold. Having released records on Man Make Music and Electric Minds - Fold lines up his 'Netflix & Chill' EP: a potent stack of Hip-Hop indebted House tracks backed up by the extolled and shady Kassem Mosse on remix duties. 'Calmer Mood' kicks things off, hopping between bpms and driving grubby and groovy samples over a rough kick. Filters control builds peaks and troughs guaranteed to set things off before 'Wallop' rattles off with powerful 909 drums and truncated samples in a manner that will please fans of his 'Mr Wood' no end. 'Dreamscape' then melds deftly chopped breaks with Jazz melodies to set a rich, blue tone that's propelled into overdrive by splashing drum solos stitched together with flare. Workshop owner Kassem Mosse then offers up his interpretation of 'Dreamscapes' and in doing so introduces a subtle degree of melancholy to the original that links rich, spectral pads with tumbling breaks and delayed Sax stabs that round off another fine addition to AUS' catalogue.

The Double Drop label present the second of three parts from the Invisible Cities collective, made up of Luca C & Brigante plus guests.

Following the summer's 'Moments In Between' (featuring Ivan Smagghe remixes), 'In My Garden' finds the guys carving a sumptuous slo-mo house groove, with a rather special secret collaborator on vocal duties. The result is something lush and unique. The original is backed with a fine interpretation from The Mole, and the super cool 'Edge Of Our Love' completes the package.

The new music from Invisible Cities doesn't stop there. Next up is Part 3 - 'Sunkissed' with remixes from Apiento and special dubs from Mad Professor.

Driving forward from the announcement of their forthcoming 'PolyRhythmic' LP on Sasha's Last Night On Earth imprint, Kate Simko and Tevo Howard are known for creating out of the box and genre-bending productions. Now, the native Chicagoans proudly announce their 'Theme Track EP,' giving music lovers a taste of things to come from the album.

Both Kate and Tevo grew up on house music and their collaboration stays true to their roots whilst bringing a contemporary twist. Their signature classic sound shines brightly through each production. The opening track 'PolyRhythmic Theme' does exactly that. A groove-ridden bass line, coupled with a driving electro synth, mingles with recordings of people on the street near Tevo's studio in Chicago.

Tevo's classic Roland programming and Kate's melodic synth melodies are ever present throughout the EP, highlighted perfectly in 'No Regrets'. Featuring vocalist Baz from Pirupa, the track's keep-it-real lyrics and hypnotic harmonies bring a new dimension to the PolyRhythmic project. Inspired by the iconic Chicago imprint Prescription Records, 'No Regrets' is a standout track from the forthcoming album.

Closing the EP in the spirit of PolyRhythmic, renowned New York producer Fred P (aka Black Jazz Consortium) delivers a masterful remix of 'PolyRhythmic Theme'. Fred, a former roommate of Tevo's in Berlin, has established himself as one of the most respected players in house music. Taking his time on this remix, he's delivered an artful dance floor jam already earning incredibly enthusiastic DJ feedback. An eight-minute journey, the rework of 'PolyRhythmic Theme' takes the listener from sparse 808 grooves to powerful high rising synth peaks fluttering throughout the track.

Kate and Tevo form a natural alliance, which captures their versatility as artists. Combining their mutual passions for music and homage to their Chicago roots, 'Theme Track' once again reiterates that the duo are strongly at the forefront of a fresh wave of innovative and dynamic producers. This release marks another chapter in the eclectic collaboration of Kate Simko and Tevo Howard, moving us closer to their eagerly anticipated album out this September on Last Night On Earth.

When IRR track hound Ada goes sniffing around the corners in
Cologne, she means business. One can imagine her happy panting when she learned that she just intercepted unbelievably huge and simultaniously unreleased material from Matt Karmil.
Here is the result of this strange event. Matt Karmil is letting us all inhale his scent.

UK house veteran Phil Asher arrives on Rekids with the latest project in his storied career, a collaboration with emergent London poet & musician James Massiah. Having chanced upon him a performance during a Fiona Bevan Presents night at Dalston's Servant's Jazz Quarters, Asher immediately approached Massiah about a possible collaboration: "As soon as I heard James I knew I had to work with him. His poetry is infectious, textured & interesting. 'Time & Space' took years to imagine but 25 minutes to write. It took James approximately the same amount of time to lay his poem down."
Asher approached Matt Edwards with the results, and the Time & Space EP was confirmed for release on Rekids: two original cuts of futuristic house emboldened by Massiah's electrifying street poetry, and a reprise version of the title track which steps away from the dancefloor to bring the lyrical content into sharper focus.

PopHop looks like a pirate, and what he launches from his music studio sounds like pirate ships. On board of these ships there's always a very colorful, exotic bunch of personalities. They are the multicultural characters of the original tracks from all corners of the world. Under the command of PopHop they sail straight towards the eye of the thunderstorm, which means the heart of the dancefloor. It's the place where he feels home. Little by little PopHop accumulated so many remixes, edits and own tracks that they fill a whole treasure chest. That's exactly what you get: A treasure chest full of dancefloor gold, and a string of pearls that is a mixed version of all these precious grooves.

Spell PETS backwards to get STEP. Spell STEP forwards and you get PETS going back to basics. STEP is the new vinyl-only label from the founders of PETS " Catz n Dogz " with a focus on the rawest forms and root functions of dance music. STEP searches for the fundamentals with under-theradar house and techno that's not afraid to be rough around the edges. It's all about the music.

The second part in his Modernista initiation and this release sees Tom McConnell confirm his production versatility, merging diverse influences and sounds into a singular identity. 77 is rhodes-led house meets jazz, driven by drum box disco beats interspersed with surreal strings. Hurled Towards Jupiter is a suitably atmospheric (cosmic) track with swirling arpeggiated keys underpinned by a heavy bass line and off centre tribal percussion. Peacefoot follows its own path, morphing from a submerged disco loop into a slow polyrhythmic acidic burn and back again.

A true unsung hero of the underground house community, Matthew Styles is an effortless producer and faultless DJ, making him the perfect regular at the likes of Panorama bar in Berlin, and putting his skills as an engineer in demand for many luminaries.
A decade ago he was at the helm of Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels as its first label manager, steering it through some of its most successful releases, and he has since made his footprint as a producer in his own right. On his debut EP on Crosstown the tracks move from the solid, big room sound of 'Clandestine Emotions', into the layered beats and bleeps of 'Wrong Move', through to the classic break-beat of 'Avon' and gentle elegant bass-lines of 'Sleepless', Styles proves he can master any style and keep his authentic sound embedded within it. Firmly schooled in the history of dance music as a DJ, Styles's father was a disc jockey and long time member of DJ culture pioneers DMC, instilling in him the age-old tradition of moving a crowd with music. From a recording career on esteemed imprints such as Running Back, Ostgut, Classic and Rekids, and regular appearances at clubs such as fabric, Munich's Bob Beaman, Concrete in Paris and the aforementioned Panorama Bar, Matthew's priority has been intrinsically placed with servicing the needs of a dance floor.

Boogie Box, a bi-monthly party in the Middle East, launches its record label with an LP by STL aka Stephan Laubner.

With tracks and releases on Smallville, Phonica, Echochord and his own label Something Records, STL has crafted an unmistakeable sound that he has become so well known for, Deep and Dubby House and Techno.

The a-side opens up with Hide & Seek, a 10-minute story filled with dub delays, weird soundscapes, and eerie pads, backed up by STL's signature drums. If you are into Andy Stott, Deepchord and Rhythm & Sound, then this if for you. Perfect warm up material.

On the flip-side is Haze & Kraze. Another long player by STL. This time, there is more drive to it. Leaning towards the darker side, the track is driven by Stephan's loose drums' programming, and muffled bassline, keeping the track moving and ever-changing. Something for your after-after-hour sets perhaps

Unique 21st Century Galactic Samurai artists TOKYO BLACK STAR are a trio led by New York-based international DJ Alex from Tokyo; Tokyo-based sound engineer / music producer Isao Kumano; and man of mystery / analog equipment otaku / musician Kenichi Takagi.


Working from a unique and primarily Japanese perspective, Alex and Isao have been working together on music (and audio products) since the beginning of this century, first on remixes and tracks for compilations and later on EPs (their "Psyche Dance EP" was the first ever release on Dixon and Ame's Berlin based Innervisions imprint back in 2005) and even a high respected line of high end headphones / audio equipment (Phonon). Their first album (still as a duo) was "Black Ships" released in April 2009 by Innervisions. After touring live in Europe the duo started to look at new directions, Kenichi joined bringing another level of analog expertise (especially with his self-made modular synth) making his first appearance on record on the debut world famous label release last Fall - Tokyo Black Star's 'Edo Express EP' which received a rave review at NPR for a atypical track - the afro-inspired "Mitokomon." Since then the trio's ship has advanced through the galaxy, absorbing and translating influences from around the solar system and beyond. Now the trio are back with "Fantasy Live 1999" a very special 'voyage sonore' in their true retro-futuristic style!


For the visual side of this album they have teamed up with their long-time collaborator, the very talented and widely acclaimed New York based Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama who has been creating the Tokyo Black Star visual identity since their first release on Innversions in 2005.


In the spirit of long-form masterpieces like Göttsching's "E2-E4", this wonderful first album from the world famous imprint 'Fantasy Live 1999' is an epic forty minute long meditative live audio painting for your 'mind, body & soul' soundtracking the beautiful psychedelic mix of colors that is Matsuyama's stunning cover painting. Conceived between 1999 and 2015, the genesis for the album, and the source of it's title is the fact it was started one legendary crazy night when the band tape-recorded an impromptu live performance at a basement bar in the groovy Shimokitazawa neighborhood in Tokyo where Alex used to live. The finished album is a result of further sessions recorded at Kenichi's studio in Tokyo and mixed at the "phonon* studio in Tokyo last summer. Sit back, chillax and we hope you enjoy this trip!

Seth Troxler continues to maintain ineffable consistency in steadily releasing cross-genre club music across his diverse collection of labels and readies the next 12' on his no-nonsense Imprint Play It Say it. In the wake of the success from the last installment from The Mekanism comes the 7th record on the label - this time showcasing the lauded production skills of Butch.

OTHERSIDE Records co-owner and a mainstay of institutes such as Cécille Records and Visionquest, Butch is an extolled veteran. Few producers have spread their catalogue as eruditely - across releases on Hot Creations, Sei Es Drum, Desolat, Rekids and Moon Harbour - Butch has touched on many bases but managed to maintain a level of consistency that's kept him in high demand.

Now - in the follow up to his 'Songs About Unconsciousness' EP on Watergate Records, he returns with his 'Dope' EP: a funk-indebted package of taught and effective House music.

The title track kicks things off with a rich textural atmosphere sat atop tumbling bongos and a steadily circling riff. Man Power left his Northern home and ran south of the border. This is his first offering for the ESP Institute. On side A, he proves that he truly is The Tourist, delivering what we're already toting as our Summer anthem—a relentless hurricane drum pattern full of toms, timbales and splashes that lays the rhythmic foundation for his Pacific chords and euphoric melodies-an undeniable floor-filler that invites all to dance unencumbered by the constraints of 'functional' club music. With side B's Oye, Man Power rolls out a similarly vibrant combination of drums and rhythm, however he toughens up the aesthetic with a massive rolling acid bassline, only briefly letting up for a spot of layered marimbas and spriteful pads before culminating in an emotional finale. After spending a couple years churning out tracks for various labels around the world, Man Power has undoubtably shifted his narrative point-of-view and updated his sense of craft upon his induction to the ESP Institute. These two songs will throw a wrench in your holiday.

After more then a year, Italian label Kosmophono is back with their second chapter on vinyl. The tasty release features a selection of great artists and seductive sounds and gives you a taster of the many other great projects lined up on this label for this year.
For the A-side, Fuse London resident Antony Difrancesco joins forces with Dutch born Ferro and opens up with the aggressive and hypnotic "Des", with its tough drums and mesmerising pads. Next up is ''tINI and the Gang" regular, Crocodile Soup, who brings his deeper side into action on ''These Shoes Are Made For Walking'', a track that is elastic and seductive and expertly arranged. David Gtronic's signature drums and trippy pads then mark a stunning opening to the B-side on 'Down the Burrow' and last but not least, He Did closes the vinyl with "Algunas Palabras', a track with a mixture of minimalistic and natural sounds that make for compelling listening and perfectly showcase the He Did sound. This is a classy EP from a label that the world needs to get behind as they continue to grow.

Pizzico Label head Billy Bogus is back on track, this time joined by Kasillen , mysterious producer and sound designer who comes from a hip hop and black music background, and is behind Italian pop stars such as Stadio, Umberto Tozzi & Samuele Bersani just to name a few.Bogus & Kasillen come up with two original tracks with the consistent help of a MPC 1000, blending old Italian horror soundtracks with dubby/cheesy analog sounds so to convey the sense of discomfort you feel while watching a thrilling Italian b-movie, but in a clubby way. The final punch comes from the acid psychedelia of a different version of the same track by In Flagranti and the 80's space-like vibe of homeboy Ma Spaventi .
Svengali is a 1931 American horror film where through hypnotism and mind control, a sinister music maestro controls the singing voice, but not the heart, of the woman he loves. As most of the Impressionist movies of early 30's it speaks metaphorically about european pre-war tensions and the incoming menace of Nazi Germany.

We go now back to 1993, a prolific year for House music and again with a classic U.M.M. produced by Nello Nicita, Jamie Lewis and Rene S.Eau De Chanté was one of the most sold records in that period , a house classic that can still get any dance floor going and highly demanded nowadays !
Hot Flash Forward Reissue !!!

The Kurl project started in the summer of 2014 where the primary concept was to sonically encompass the various influences of a twenty-year musical journey. The essence of Kurl's sound is mainly deep dub with hints of house groove that create a very unique sound environment connecting the listener to his lifestyle and movement. At the root of "Sacred Fire" is a very special love story. Kurl started an emotional partnership, a genuine brotherhood with MJ White, one of the pioneers of the soulful house music sound of the New York '90s. Marshall James White appeared on many hits in the NYC club scene including Scandalous "Still Irresistible" just to name one. He tragically passed away in November 2015. MJ White gives soul to "Sacred Fire" by writing the lyrics and interpreting it with so much passion that Kurl was able to transform this track into an eternal love song. For Kurl, MJ White will remain the angel with a heavenly voice, and above all, a memory that will mark his internal and musical journey for the rest of his days In the words of MJ white "music has a huge heart that beats inside all of us.

Futureboogie roll into Spring with a heavyweight release from dastardly duo, Ron & Neil, AKA Ron Basejam, and Neil Diablo, who between them bring years of musical chops and (most importantly) 'the funk 'to the table, and don't disappoint here. In its Original Mix, 'Pedre Son Éclat' is a breezy yet sturdy slice of atmospheric synth dance, resplendent with swirling riffs and stammering bass. A thunderous Roland CR-78 drum pattern keeps everything in check, and its sultry vocals flitter between spoken word and harmonious refrains, lacing the track with a superb 'new wave' feel. A remix comes courtesy of Man Power, the musical enigma that traded on his anonymity for a couple of years before coming clean as the English DJ/producer Geoff Kirkwood. Having released on labels like Hivern, Throne Of Blood and Correspondant, Man Power takes 'Pedre Son Éclat' into even deeper territories, crafting a moody and spacious version that respectfully stays close to the original mix. 'You Feel It' ramps up the funk, the tribal rhythms, horn blasts and other micro samples keep the arrangement lively, all the while that bassline really gelling the track together. Rounding off the release is 'Tears', tension building strings and beats straight out of the school of Prelude/Salsoul lay the foundation for some grandiose analog arps, soulful vox and funky guitar licks, a super slick offering from the duo.

After last month's »Busted Moniker« EP from Quarion, Retreat is thrilled to announce a new 12 courtesy of house music's most energetic duo, the incomparable Session Victim! The aptly titled »Two Man House Band EP« is the lads' first record since their 2014 magnum Opus »See You When You Get There« and perfectly transcribes the energy that Session Victim pour into their incendiary live show. Tailormade for a night out in the club or a joyous day at the festival, the »Two Man House Band EP« once again prooves that Session Victim are unstoppable in their pursuit of the ultimate groove! »Summer Games« is an ode to that most festive of seasons and could easily hold the claim of being Retreat's »biggest« track so far. Built around an Hypnotic organ loop, »SummerGames« completely blurs the lines between house, funk and soul : rolling breakbeats, catchy vocal snippets and a very groovy bassline are the core elements of this anthem that could rock any party. Yet Session Victim add a slight twist in the form of a melancholic string motive that appears in two chiseled breakdowns. It's a little reminder that summers do not last forever and that one should enjoy them while they last ... Flip the record in order to dive into the deeper realms of »Black Cream«, a more reflective track for the late hours. With its jazzy (almost broken) beat, guitar licks, rhodes pads, subtle percussion and ethereal vocals, »Black Cream« is the soundtrack to an exciting underwater trip with Matthias and Hauke at the controls. Thanks to the captains' lively drum programming, the track flows effortlessly and we're treated with many surprises along the way before a gradual rise brings us back to the surface. »Finderlohn« is a smokey downtempo workout which finds Session Victim digging deep in their collection to demonstrate their prowess in manipulating samples.
