Okain - Corner Trax
GRU036
GRUUV
12inch29.10.201429.OCT.14

HouseDeepChicagoDetroit

Audiojack's Gruuv label returns this October with a four-track package from French producer Okain, featuring a remix from Tuccillo. Parisian artist Samuel Thalman aka Okain has quite the standing in contemporary electronic music having been a prominent name as a DJ and producer for the past fifteen years. Playing at some of the leading nightclubs across the globe such as Fabric, Watergate, Space Ibiza, Rex Club and Electric Pickle to name but a few. Thalman's also built quite the respectable back-catalogue in his time, releasing material via the likes of Tsuba, BPitch, Memento and Cadenza, and here we see him add Gruuv to his affiliations.

Kicking off the release is 'Down the Block', seeing Okain offer up a rugged percussion and bass led house cut, fuelled by swinging rhythms, rumbling sub tones, sporadic sax licks and processed vocal lines, opening up the EP on an energetic tip.

'RZ One' follows this, retaining a similar aesthetic with an insistent drive and penetrative low-end, though Okain opts for a grittier production feel here, distorting the drum sounds, instilling expansive, atmospheric reverb tails and drawn out delays alongside hip-hop imbued vocal lines.

On the latter half of the release we have two versions of 'By Your Side', the first of which is the original mix from Okain, which takes on a more stripped-back approach in comparison to the preceding composition's, laying its focus on fluttering synth sounds, a stab-led bass hook and warm motown style vocal chops. 2020Vision artist Tuccillo then rounds off the package with his mix of 'By Your Side', turning in his signature percussive-led style on the mix with intricately programmed drums and a subtle underlying tension that softly bubbles away in the depths over the cuts seven minute duration.

Session Victim - Matching Half Ep
DOG055
Delusions Of Grandeur
12inch17.10.201617.OCT.16

HouseDeep

As our favourite victims head off to San Francisco and their stateside studio of choice known as Room G to put the finishing touches to their third LP, we have a beautiful little taster of what to expect in the form of the Matching Half EP.
The rise and rise of Session Victim is well documented and even more well deserved seeing as the German duo continue to blow minds and cause waves of joy at every gig they play whether it be their high octane live show or vinyl only DJ sets. As if they weren't busy enough with their touring they've also been finding an incredible flow in the studio, and after recent chats to the boys, they're visibly excited and bubbling about how they're finding themselves in the most creative and positive minds to date. No difficult third LP scenario for them then!
Fresh off the back of releases and remixes on Retreat, Toytonics, Boogiefuturo and Splendor & Squalour, we present you with their first original material of the year. Matching Half is classic SV, it's fair to say. The boys build up a percussive, disco groove with a two-beat repeating rhodes riff which bounces around the kick drum
beautifully. Things build up simply and subtly to the breakdown four minutes in at which point a new piano progression signals the next section of blissed-out dancefloor euphoria. Once again, they've managed to create a memorable, uplifting, warm and jazzy track which will stick firmly in your head. And not a vocal in sight!
Flip over for Up To Rise which uses a similar sound palette and once again we have a disco-edged balearic instrumental whose strengths lie in the dubby, improvised feel, no doubt stemming from their late-night live studio jams. Simple guitar hooks and ad-libbed vocals add to the human feel which Session Victim always inject by the bucket-load. This track has been getting an amazing reaction from their recent live shows.
Finally we have none other than Byron The Aquarius on remix duties to give us his spin on Matching Half. The Detroit native should be known to most of you having had killer releases on both Kyle Hall's Wild Oates and Theo's Sound Signature. Here he adds a bit of that raw, Detroit attitude whilst keeping the soul truly intact. A skipping house groove bolsters the energy nicely and Byron incorporates some tasteful new parts to help make the remix his own. Classy stuff we hope you'll agree.

Statues - Alaula
C56055
Claremont 56
12inch17.10.201617.OCT.16

HouseDeepNu DiscoSlow

As Claremont 56 speeds towards its' ten-year anniversary, label founder Paul Murphy continues to champion little known producers and previously unheard artists. Over the past 12 months, the label has showcased material from rising talents
such as Bella Figura, Simon Peter, Paraiso and Oma & Amberfame. Now, Claremont 56 is adding another new name to the roster: Statues. Essex-based trio Bradley Lucke (production/bass/percussion/keys), Mark Crooks (keys/production) and Grant Carruthers (vocals/guitar) has been making music on-and-off together since they were teenagers, and last year decided to come together under the Statues alias. They submitted a number of demos to Paul Murphy, who was so impressed by what he heard that he offered to help produce and write an album with them. As debut singles go, 'Alaula' is stunning. Reminiscent of many softly spun
moments from the Claremont 56 back catalogue, it builds slowly and breezily via subtle waves of organic and electronic instrumentation. Carruthers' impassioned vocals pop in and out of the mix at opportune moments, peeping above alluring acoustic guitar, bass, synthesizer and Rhodes parts. Throw in
tumbling, life-affrming piano lines and swelling cello parts - both provided by friend-of- the-family Robin Lee of Faze Action - and you've got another near- perfect chunk of sunset-friendly, horizontal brilliance. On the fip, Murphy dons his familiar Mudd alias to provide a superb Piano Dub. Building the action around a sparse, delay-laden percussion track, Murphy teases out the track's most potent moments, in the process creating something
that lingers even longer in the memory. Lee's superb piano and cello work naturally takes pride of place, as Murphy expertly emphasizes the track's impeccably atmospheric nature.

Bolumar - Poise Ep
ANR051
Act Natural Records
excl21.10.201521.OCT.15

HouseDeepMinimalTechnoDub

Having just released a chart topping EP on vinyl only imprint UWAGA, in collaboration with label owner Martin Dacar, Valencian born Bolumar is back with an exquisite four track composition on London based Act Natural Records.

Poise EP is indeed an elegant, balanced release, showcasing Bolumar's excellent production skills and his ability to morph minimal elements into full, expressive and exciting tunes.

The EP begins with Poise', featuring talented Thomas Gandey, who has released on labels like Planet E and Rekids. The tune has an infectious rhythm with groovy samples, a great minimal track which showcases both Thomas and Bolumar's great knowledge and intuition when it comes to composing, as the synths and vocals blend perfectly together and the percussion leads the way.

The second track, Sabeth Swing', follows seamlessly and keeps the delayed synths which will be present throughout the EP, offering a certain kind of spacey feel as the analog and tech sounds alternate.

Side B changes the pace to a faster rhythm, as "EvoO 000" unfolds with its titillating vocals and funky synths, only to slow again with Es Vedra Sunset', a beautiful atmospheric track which perfectly concludes the whole EP, containing all the elements which set Poise EP apart - its artful blend of differing samples and synths married with the deep and immersive layers exploring the minimal, analog side of electronic music.

The release has already gained support from Rekids' label boss Radioslave and Nils Weimann (Subtil Records)

Craig Bratley Featuring Danielle Moore - Play The Game
MF017
Magic Feet
12inch23.09.201623.SEP.16

HouseDeep

Northern disco general and machine music lover Craig Bratley is back with a firing new EP on his own Magic Feet label. It features one track from him with Danielle Moore from Crazy P, plus a remix from Andrew Weatherall and one from Heretic.
Bratley operates on the freakier end of the disco dancefloor, with weird electronics and raw jacking grooves propping up his analogue sounds. He has released on Andrew Weatherall's Bird Scarer, has put out a fine album on Tsuba and hosts his own kaleidoscopic show on Leeds KMAH Radio, so is an accomplished artist and DJ indeed. Says the artist, the track is a response to (Bratley's Bird Scarer single) Obsession, the subject is ambiguous - is it an ode to someone or to the darker side of clubbing The excellent Play The Game is an arresting track with tough drums and percussion and a thick arpeggiated synth that is angsty and dirty. It is expertly offset by the libidinous vocals of Danielle Moore as a thin drone and frazzled pads grow louder in the mix. Intense and steamy, it is a real chugger for the floor.
The master that is Andrew Weatherall then flips the cut into one of his typically tasteful ten minute affairs. Dubbed out, long legged and perfectly poised, it is more cosmic in his hands, with trippy molten melodies and explosive guitar riffs adding real macho menace to the groove.Heretic is Timothy Clerkin, one half of the Eskimo Twins, and his version is equally unique. Tense and prickly, with slapping hits and chopped up vocal, it is a ravey monster designed to make you sweat. This is a standout package with three varied and vital disco bombs all packing a massive punch.

Stereoclip - Hometown 2x12"
DELICIEUSELP01
Délicieuse Records
2x12inch05.01.201505.JAN.15

HouseDeep

Getting back from two successful EPs finally comes the long awaited release ofStereoclip's first album on which he decided to take his music in another direction while focusing on variating his instrumentals and at a set harmony.

Many of his musician friends contributed to Hometown', infusing diverse influences from D&B to deep Berlin electronic music, as well as pop and rock n' roll samples. For such an eclectic mix the result was surprisingly refreshing. Due to such an immaculate execution did the fusion of sounds mesh organically.

What brings a mere coherence to his past discography and recent album is Stereoclip's noticeable hunt for new soundscapes. He bridges the gap between unique concepts and varying instrumentals to create a solid and underlying sound identity.

Bad Barbie Records
excl22.09.201422.SEP.14

Starting a new series of releases, we have the Kollaborationz compilation, in which we will have different works from groups of producers per track. The first track Check In Detroit by Emanuele Inglese & Markomas, has a powerful base complemented by a strong involving techno bass line. It also haves great ambience synths in the background that gives this track a fantastic vibe. To finish the groove of this dance floor killer track, we get some vocal phrases that imprint the party feeling making it a truly bomb tack. The second track comes by the hand of Lucio Spain & UGLH, called Old Synth 80's, which makes honor to its name with a defined and old school synth line that works not only as bass line but as main melodic element too. It haves a very groovy base and a fantastic work with the vocals too, making it perfect to rock the dance floor too. The last track is a collaboration of three artists, the Re Us duo, Olivier Berger and Toby Holguin. All together they created the single Allure, which is the deeper of this three tracks and it combines a rock solid base and strong bass line, with delicate vocals and subtle synths that creates an almost hypnotic vibe that with immerse the audience in a solid trip played in the right moment of the night.

Kicking off with the first track "Lose Yourself", Viken Arman mixes different cultural
influences to an exciting and mysterious intro of the 3 track EP. Guitars rise into
unknown spaces of deep bass and hidden complexity of beatstructures.

The second track, "Red", lead by wavy-delayed chords and soft vocals spreads the
EP into a more percussional quiet way, supported by sitar and slight bass.

Lastly, Maher Daniel abducts "Red", the rhythmical trip, straight back to the dark
clubroots. Alternately combining the tight instrumentally base of Viken Arman and his
own terms of reference.

Felix Laband - Deaf Safari (2lp + Cd Edition)
CPT470-1
Compost Records
2x12inch10.06.201510.JUN.15

HouseDeepElectronicaTech

Deaf Safari is an audio collage of subjects that interest me and speak of the world I live in. It is an album composed of sampled recordings from the media landscape that has been the soundtrack to my life over the last ten years.

The most important development in my current music and as can be heard on Deaf Safari has been my understanding of the beauty and power of the spoken word. I have experienced severe indifference to contemporary pop and electronic music as a whole over the last many years, as I have felt that social comment of any relevance has been ignored by music in general.
Deaf Safari attempts to bring sociopolitical comment into my music without taking any specific stand.
Sampled outside of musical influence directly from the news, from preacher sermons or from contemporary African documentaries.
I have finally created a story with sound that I feel accurately conveys my personal experience with the African world I live in.

My musical influences on this album lie mostly with local Kwaito house. Deaf Safari is an experiment within certain boundaries of the 4/4 genre, to create my own South African "house" album.
I am proud and inspired about the South African Kwaito house scene.
However, as with my first three albums, "Thin Shoes In June' (2001) - "4/4 Down The Stairs' (2002) and "Dark Days Exit' (2005), I am still interested in making strange and evocative music.

American Roots music from the earlier periods of the 20th century has deeply resonated with me during the making of this album.
The incredible field recordings by Alan Lomax of Negro prison and chain gang work songs, and the
beautiful early recordings of artists such as Leadbelly have had a major influence on Deaf Safari.

I am truly excited to release this album and to start performing in the music world again. It has been ten years since I released "Dark Days Exit , and although I have been purposefully absent from the music world, I have none the less never stopped making music.
I feel that I have finally arrived at a mature and challenging stage in my pursuit of making emotional music of relevance .

Benoit Gagnon & Massimiliano Pagliara - In Spirals
CORRESPONDANT40
Correspondant
12inch29.01.201629.JAN.16

HouseDeepTech

Correspondant 40 was born in 2012 with the first ever meeting of Benoit Gagnon and Massimiliano Pagliara.

Benoit initially sent the tracks that now form the "In Spirals" EP to Massimiliano for nothing more than feedback. However Massi felt so inspired by the music that he xfelt compelled to add his personal analogue touch.

Opening track ‚In Spirals' is an unabashed ode to funked up baselines and sparkling Italo melodies. ‚Agamous' pulls us in to sensual acid territory by taking 808 beats and 303 beeps into unchartered sexy locales. ‚Go South' continues the sexed up and synthy motif, and throws some electricised jungle drumming into the mix, making this the most intense and darkest track on the EP. ‚Don't Push Me', begins its journey with a more grooving disco percussion line and then heaps on some Chicago pads, ultimately blossoming into a full blown hands-in-the-air synth-exercise.

Ekkohaus & Rufus - Trial & Terror Ep
HT010
Holic Trax
12inch22.08.201422.AUG.14

HouseDeepChicagoElectronicaTech

The ninth release from the well-formed Holic Trax label comes from Italian born hot property Tuccillo, fresh off the back of his massive EP for 2020Vision and recent work as Doublet with Holic boss Tomoki Tamura. This new EP will get released on a limited run of 500 coloured vinyl as well as digitally with each package containing different tracks.

Tucillo's sound is a cultured but club ready one with plenty of melodic intricacies and cues taken from chill out, disco, house and techno in equal measure. These four new tracks prove he is a master of his form very much still on the rise.

Up first is 'Just Gotta Believe' featuring Howard. It's a big, airy track with a rubbery bassline that rolls along with a sense of uplifting charm. Muted acid lines and Howard's vocal help flesh out the track and all in all it's a fine modern composition that's hugely refreshing.

Next up is the pumping house affair that is 'Organmind'. The beats and percussion are classical inclined but the melodies darting about within are loose and jazzy, romantic and heartfelt and really elevate the whole track. Some breathy female voices and more trumpet lines weave in and out and make for a perfectly pure house experience.

Vinyl only 'Introduciendo' is a more muted and mellow track that deals in minimal beats and waify, dreamlike melodies. It's the sort of thing you can easily get lost in and given the subtle intricacies, proves Tuccillo to be a real master in the studio.

Final track 'Musickly' is a digital only bonus that is full of gurgling tones, plenty of congas and weird synth sounds. It's trippy and intimate and really draws you into its centre as the louche drums slowly build around it.

Four killer tracks here that all explore slight different niches but all excel equally. It's a fine way to start the year for the always-considered Holic Trax.

Late March will see Kerri Chandler return to his beloved Madhouse Records via a collaborative single with Troy Denari, backed with Steve Mill, DJ Spen & Soulfuledge remixes.

New Jersey's Kerri Chandler has been heading up the Madhouse imprint since 1992 and over the past two decades has released a string of material from himself, Dennis Ferrer, Tony Lionni, Voyeur and many more. Here though we see Chandler's groundbreaking 'Track One' instrumental get a new lease of life with a production rework and Troy Denari's vocal stylings.

The original mix kicks things off and sees Chandler's infectious New Jersey swing and bumpy square wave bass hook run alongside bright synth sequences, horn licks and Denari's expressive vocal contributions.

Steve Mill rounds off the A side with his remix, bringing a more contemporary edge to things with a robust rhythmic drive while subtly blending echoing snippets from the original into the mix.

On the B side DJ Spen steps up alongside Soulfuledge on remix duties, delivering a typically soul infused interpretation employing soft piano chords, smooth string lines, hooky organ licks and shuffled rhythms alongside soaring loops of the original vocal. The pair then turn in a 'Dub 4 Real' take on things, bringing the sleek melodies and swinging percussion into the limelight...

Lo Shea - Bide Ep
NLRNT006
NEVER LEARNT
12inch10.04.201510.APR.15

HouseDeepTech

After a slightly longer break than anticipated, we're back with a fresh 12".

This time the music comes from our good friend Lo Shea, aka Liam O'Shea.

Most people know Lo Shea from his Seaghdha 12"s and his stewardship of Sheffield's brilliant Hope Works nights but his involvement in Sheffield's music scene and music in general runs much, much deeper.

We're lucky to have him on board for a release this year as, as well as the Hope Works label's pending output, he's got material coming for new secretsundaze offshoot SZE (imminent), Transit and DEXT.

It's gonna be a big year for Liam - show him some love (please)'

Marco Latrach - Vision
BBR003
Bad Barbie Records
excl17.04.201417.APR.14

HouseDeepTech

Marco Latrach from Chile, prepared a fantastic ep with four solid originals. In them we will find several mixtures of deep house, house and tech. Vision is driven by a very powerful string bass that makes the base for the rest of the elements and helps create an incredible vibe, which towards the end, gets empathized by some old school house base sounds and vocal phrases. KSK slowly follows the atmospheric soul of Vision, yet KSK gets into a deeper trip than the previous one making good use of subtle melodies and very well placed percussions, alongside the backend pad layers that finish closing the story perfectly. Hymno shows an amazing work with the synthesizer creating delicate layers of sounds between them, the vocoder lines and electric piano melodies. All this elements mixed with an acid bass line results in a very rich deep house experience. Lautaro Jazz Band goes into a much rhythmic road than the previous three tracks creating fantastic base for the synth chords and the sax solos which are the ones stealing the attention from the listener in this great track. Without a doubt this is a very complete ep with many facets of Marco Latrach's production skills for all house music lovers.

Mark Barrott - Remixes From An Island
IFEEL059
International Feel
12inch06.10.201606.OCT.16

HouseDeepNu DiscoBeatsLounge

180 gr, rmxs by CFCF, Nu Guinea, Luis Delgado, Domenique Dumont) Earlier this summer Mark Barrott released his second album on his infamous label International Feel. Here are the remixes.

Earlier this summer Mark Barrott released his second album on his infamous label International Feel. 'Sketches From An Island 2' continued in its quest to sketch a fresh and modern foundation for Balearic music and now is followed by interpretations from artists who are equally as bold. Barrott's music once again spoke to a diverse set of aficionados such as Pitchfork who stressed it was "an example of a sequel surpassing the original" and was even supported by the prestigious Financial Times.

The challenge of reworking the material firstly falls to CFCF, who released an acclaimed album on International Feel this year whilst also receiving a Grammy nomination for his remix work. Luis Delgado, member of highly influential spanish avant garde band Finis Africae takes a sublime shot at 'Over At Dieter's Place' and Domenique Dumont's stunning remix of 'Der Stern, Der Nie Vergeht' is nostalgic for an early Padilla record and his first 'new' material since being named one of Resident Advisor's best albums of last year. Finally Nu Guinea, a favourite of Gilles Peterson impress with their 70's Library music funk take on 'The Mysterious Island of Dr Nimm'.

Barrott is also reissuing the Gatefold Vinyl edition of the first Sketches from an Island album to mark the occasion and due to continued demand. He plays every Thursday at Hostel La Torre soundtracking the sunset until the end of September and also at the launch of the venue's first compilation album (compiled by Mark and Pete Gooding) on Wednesday 7th Sept alongside DJ Harvey.
