House Vinyl New Releases - News

finally repressed!
Nicolas Jaar's very first EP, released in 2008, suggested the arrival of a rare talent: it was recorded when he was just 17, for one thing, and its acoustic sounds and unconventional structures were refreshingly unsullied by club music's business-as-usual habits

Kicking off a new limited series on Circus Company, we return to JAW's solo project Midtown, which was released in 2014. Amongst the 19 collaborative tracks that saw the dOP vocalist sparring with musicians from all over the world, there was a spellbinding song written in conjunction with British singer-songwriter Piers Faccini. Traitor Creator' is a haunting track very much led by Faccini's fragile vocal, with JAW laying down a subtle undercurrent of harmony. Meanwhile the delicate guitar tone and sparse percussion that shape out the song all lend themselves to a mournful, existential message. Even in the climax of the track, with its fractured guitar distortion, the Eastern lilt of the melody dictates a mystical atmosphere. To frame the original track in a new light we called upon Nôze to deliver a remix. The pensive mood is maintained through a brooding low-end pulse, but the vocals are mixed to further accent the interplay between the two distinct singers. Using a stripped-back beat and threading in choice slices of the guitar alongside light touches of synth, Nico and Eze draw on the fundamental spirit of the track and take it to a new, equally captivating place.Of all the tracks on Midtown, Traitor Creator' was perhaps not the obvious choice for a club-friendly remix, but in such unlikely situations can some of the most captivating results be found.

There is more to the Anteater than the mere consumption of Formicidae (ants). Inhabiting the forests and grasslands of Central and South Americas, the Vermilingua (literally wormed-tongued) suborder is a strikingly intelligent mammal that lives most of its lifespan in solitude. Whilst it may not win Top Trumps on eyesight, it is an excellent forager, with a blazing maximum ground velocity of 16 mph. The creature certainly does what it says on the tin: its powerful 24 cm tongue can inflict up to 150 lashes per minute upon an insect mound, allowing for the consumption of up to 30,000 insects per day. However, the anteater leads a beleaguered existence as prey for the trophically dominant python and jaguar. It thus follows that the refrain from Vancouver's Sean Dimitrie and Tonye Aganabe's song, it ain't easy being on your own, makes the anteater the quintessential featured creature for this latest RvS release. Much like the mechanics of vermilinguan feeding, we are fairly certain that the Ian Pooley, Asadinho, Paul Soul and Chris Smith (aka Soulsmith) and original mixes will give your ears a most satisfactory and rigorous flailing.
Actually, we think this EP is pretty special.

Seth Troxler's Play It Say It label looks to Sean Miller for its next essential bit of dance floor dynamite. This 11th firing release on the label features two killer cuts from the Canadian producer.
Miller has been turning out taste making tracks on a consistent basis for a decade now. Releasing on Mobilee, Area Remote and Ovum he is no stranger to the best labels out there and this latest missive is another offering that will keep DJs and dancers happy all summer long and beyond. The momentous A Side 'Tiger Spirit It' is ten tantalising minutes of deep and seductive house music. Clever drum fills; poised synth stabs and vocal coos all add oil to the groove as playful kicks punch out an infectious pattern below. This is proving to be one of key tracks in Seth's tracks this summer: 'It's driving the crowds wild'.
'Together' is less physical but certainly more emotional offering. Playing out perfectly effortlessly, it has swirling pads and trilling chords adding some sensuous summer sunshine to the vibe fuelled house drums below. Troxler has once again unearthed a brilliant release from a talented producer right at the top of his game.

The Belgian Stereo Express joins forces with AKA AKA & Thalstroem as well as vocalist Timmy Shimmy to increase the anticipation of the long-player with the first single 'When I'm With You". Together they create a wonderful house gem that is initially driven by strings and claps, before the crystal clear guitar will be flanked by a grooving bass line. The lyrics are a declaration of love towards our soul mate, to life in general and radiate this positive attitude that defines Burlesque Musique - including a delicate French touch and a chime final. With its dominant kick drum, the club edit starts a bit harder and dispense the hedonistic vocals, even though the warmth and grace of the strings as well as the flattering melody constitutes the attention of 'When I'm With You". The Bremen-based producer Oliver Schories equips his remix not only with a lowered bass line, but relies on the trinity of hi-hats, long-drawn chords and dreamy soundscapes. The down-pitched vocals top his purist approach tremendously off. The second remix comes from Sakso. The saxophonist is both the studio mate of Stereo Express as well as his partner in crime during their live gigs. He puts focus on the vocals and impresses with a swarming sax solo that longs for summer and evokes daydreams. A phenomenal appetizer for the upcoming debut album by Stereo Express!

Roundabout Sounds rounds out 2014 with it's 12th release entitled "Fly Pattern EP". This various artists (vinyl only) release features 4 up and coming artists from around the globe. UC Beatz (Belgium) and Satore (Spain) are EU residents while Kensuke Fukushima and Hokuto Sato are both from Japan. You've got "Walk Free" and "Flying Soul" as floor bangers while "R.A.M" and "Finding the Way" pimp the deep vibes that the label is known for over the last couple years.

From winning a DJ competition in Bristol to now readying her highly anticipated Defected In The House mix compilation, the past 10 years have been both a hard-earned and well-deserved rise to the top for Sam Divine. The Bath-born DJ has gone from practicing in a shed at the bottom of her mum's garden to main stage festival headliner, while also becoming a label owner and the presenter of Defected's In The House radio show, the #1 house music podcast on iTunes.

Sam Divine In The House is a pure representation of Sam's refreshingly versatile approach to DJing in 2016, but also touches upon her many musical influences and showcases a selection of her own forthcoming productions, along with releases on the D-Vine Sounds imprint. This new material, including a number of exclusive collaborations with Curtis Gabriel, comes just over a year after the pair's infectious rework of Sweet Female Attitude's classic 'Flowers', which has now reached over 1 million plays online and became one of the summer anthems of 2015.

These new releases demonstrate a real progression in Sam as a producer over the past 12 months, as she finds her own unique sound and an ability to create uplifting house records fit for any dancefloor. Alongside tracks such as Max Chapman's tech-house smasher 'Paravana', Mat.Joe's tribal-sounding remix of Milk & Sugar - 'My Lovin', the classic dub of Mood II Swing's 'Closer' and Dennis Ferrer's anthemic new single 'Right Thing' - this compilation has a truly eclectic tracklist, making it an essential collection for any house music lover.

Drawing on all of her experience gained from working in record shops and holding down residencies at Ushuaia and Amnesia, Sam has developed into an expert at creating a musical journey and keeping the listener moving from start to finish, whether it be with her live sets or studio mixes. This is without doubt Sam's most complete body of work to-date and a seminal release, placing her amongst some of house music's all-time greats.

Sam Divine: It was a pleasure putting the Sam Divine In The House compilation together! It gave me a chance to go back through my collection and brought home some records that I had forgotten about! It also gave me a chance to showcase some tracks that I wouldn't normally get to play in a club! Disc 1 has a more stripped back balearic chunky vibe to it while disc 2 picks up the pace taking you from evening into night covering everything from Deep, jacking & tech house! A true journey of what's in my locker right now!'

"Hopefully they do not fit into too many sub-genre categories," says Canadian producer and DJ Edward Currelly, aka Eddie C about On The Shore. On The Shore is a compelling musical trip of drifting repetition in rhythm and melody. Recorded entirely in his studio on the shore of the Panke River, Eddie confesses: "Berlin has been so crazy... I have mixed feelings sometimes. The emotions I've had here are like none I've ever had to deal with before. I've had many sleepless nights. I suppose the music is a mix of feelings and inspiration from life here." The story arc of his sample-laden album oscillates between sweet sadness and warming blissfulness. There are strings that can evoke tears, synth lines that may generate dreams and guitars that are able to introduce levitation. But C's life as a traveling DJ has also had a great effect on his art. "I've always written music and always been DJ'ing. They both came around the same time when I was very young. But I've never quite connected the two. I've always thought that they were very different avenues of expression. All the travelling in the last while has been a beautiful experience and so very inspiring and exhausting. One thing I really wish I had more of is routine. Something that many people wish to escape." For a listener it makes no difference where the emotional subtext is originated. Eddie did not dismiss what he has always enjoyed: arranging a mix of instruments, synths, samples and drum machines, that cuts deep into your soul. Each track is an intimate meditation. Sometimes it grooves in the down-tempo fields, sometimes cosmic disco calls the tune and house is around too, but all is propelled by pulsing keys, pitch bends and crashing drum loops. The routine Eddie talks about must be somewhat a part of his life as his usage of samples, his rhythmical accuracy and his sense for small but extra touching melody particles are not just coming from one spontaneous surge of emotion. He also enjoyed the company of his Norwegian buddy Rune Lindbaek on "Auf Der Ufer" - a sublime synth-laden spacey tune. On The Shore is a playful album full of contrasting, deeply atmospheric stages, that range from swinging and propulsive to blissed-out and bittersweet sensibilities.

When San Francisco's ICEE HOT launched its own record label last fall with a new record from Ghosts On Tape (one of the party's founders), there was a lot of talk about how quiet he's been in recent years. Now, a mere nine months later, that's all changed.

Following the release of "Nature's Law," Ghosts On Tape has been on an absolute tear, dropping numerous remixes and turning out new tunes at a blinding clip. At this point, he's built up a solid reserve of dancefloor weapons, and ICEE HOT is thrilled to begin unleashing it upon the world.

"No Guestlist" is the first salvo, and it's an absolute stormer. Combining the brash spirit of classic Chicago with Ghosts On Tape's drum-heavy sensibilities, the much sought-after tune has been lighting up ICEE HOT for months and is poised to do some major damage. The producer's own "Underground Mix" takes things deeper, albeit while keeping the sass of the original version intact.

Finnish producer Arttu has also been enlisted to remix "No Guestlist," and kicks off the b-side with a playful and light-hearted take that employs snapping drum patterns and gleefully lilting melodies. Rounding out the record is another Ghosts On Tape original, "Still Got the Feeling," a darker, slower burning cut that reflects just how effective he can be when experimenting with a more techno-flavored template.

St. Petersburg talent Ivan Latyshev drops a killer EP on the ever-dependable Dessous Recordings. Ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as What's in the Box, Street King and Spaghetti Monster - but this To My Youth EP sees the young Russian step up to another level. The title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. The sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors. Can't Go Away goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner. Old Ages also highlights Ivan's love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - it's infectious stuff and suggests Ivan Latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.

It's not every day you find a keyboard player with chops like John Camp. Plucked from the same Minneapolis Jazz vine that grew such deliciously ripened talents as No Regular Play's Greg Paulus and Aaron James (Gregory Porter band), we met Camp for the first time at the Marcy Hotel. Initially adding his signature touch to other's Crew Love records and last year dropping an incredible EP on Have A Killer Time, the Mistral EP marks his first official Crew Love release! Camp's range is dynamic and this body of music certainly shows it. From jazz funk infused deep house, to analogue heavy brokenbeat, to vein-melting downtempo with a Dilla twist, this EP takes you there and then some. More from John Camp in his words: "Mistral started out as an odd-ball tune put together in the wee hours at the Marcy Penthouse. Having played it live a number of times with my good friends Greg Paulus and Nick Debruyn from No Regular Play, here it is now, in it's final version featuring Greg Paulus on Trumpet. Sirocco is a bit of a counterpart to Mistral, slowing the tempo down to a nice slow groove and branching out into some new realms. Unlike Mistral, Sirocco is a darker and more mysterious song. I have been fortunate enough to meet Aidan Carroll, a fantastic Bass player, who has laced Vandalia with some tasty bass lines. The song is sort of focused around the bass line progression and shows Carroll's amazing ability to weave a beautiful pattern through these unusual chord changes. Lastly, there's Medusa, Soul Clap and Camp's collaborative effort with the Clap steering the wheel and Camp firing all the musical heavy artillery. This dancefloor friendly house/techno flex has stood the test of time in Soul Clap's DJ sets.

The fifth release on Visionquest's vinyl only offshoot features three hot licks from label stalwarts Rework, the legendary Konrad Black and Moreon & Baffa. The A Side kicks off with Rework's stunning 'Bilbao', A lesson in stripped back euphoric machine funk drenched in pads and rolling synth lines, A perfect late night beauty. Side B opens with the pairing of Moreon and Baffa, who give us 'Malcrigia' A track that combines tough drum programming with deep dub like synths to create the perfect synergy, driving, melodic and moody. Konrad Black's 'Trophic Cascade' rounds out the EP, A track to get lost in, layers of synths, pads and disjointed ethereal voices and field recordings drift in and out of the mix crafting an atmosphere of tension throughout the track while guiding into the deepest, darkest corners of the dance-floor.Please note these will be vinyl only and a limited pressing.

KANN selected another proper 'Family Horror' 8 track compilation with both renowned and new faces, after the first edition saw the day of light in 2011. Check out the range that represents their own vision of spacey house & deeper techno nowadays. For this reissued family celebration the following relatives joined the stock: Pablo Mateo from hot burning Lack Rec., Knutsson / Berg - a sweet swedish collaboration of Hans Berg and Johanna Knutsson, Llewellyn aka Lake People, Hiver from Curle Recordings fame and more of the label's local connections such as Perm the analog prince, Falke, QY and Alkohole.

The 7th release with Brighton, Leaves, Roger 23, Glyn, Futers, Qnete, Rixdorfer Grau...

Deep in the bowels of the Dixon Avenue basement lived a man so outrageously overweight we used him for a sofa. King Chubby, a suite chap but a bit cheeky. Said the only reason he was humpty dumpty was cause every time he rode yer maw she made him a sandwich. He tried dieting but nothing worked. We took drastic action and wired woofers direct to his lardy lugs with In Basements Vol 2 blasting in on repeat.
Thanks to the squelchy genius of tunes like Luna, Save It and Sneaking Out our big boned bro boogalooed himself skinny. He bopped till the weight dropped. King' Chubby's pumpalicious now and you can be to if you sign up to Casio Royale's latest DABJ dance diet plan.

Italian DJ legend DJ Rocca (from the infamous Maffia Club) joins forces with File Under Disco to produce a stunning EP of original new disco sounds.

As one half of Erodiscotheque alongside disco superstar Dimitri From Paris, and as a regular collaborator with Danielle Baldelli the Grandaddy of the Cosmic sound, DJ Rocca's disco credentials are firmly in place.

For this release, he captures the classic sound of disco funk on 'Love Power', but gives it a modern production twist and re-spins it for the contemporary dance floor.
On the remix front, the one and only Dimitri From Paris rolls out one of his heavy-hitting, Prelude-style Nightdubbin' mixes of 'Pizza On Wednesday', which will have your dancers beating the street for more.

While Dicky Trisco's dance floor intentions are obvious as he hits the boogie button with a hands-in-the-air retake on A Magical Day.

HOT! Remixes for Dos Attack - Flue, coming from Kornel Kovacs & Minor Science.

A very special Ep from Jimmy Crispyn, who helped kick off the whole Dream House Volumes with his aptly named Dream 1.1 - also featured here as a very cheeky remix as an extra, free download! Jimini's first SOLO ep here - infact almost an album really, if you include the 2 extra bonus tracks... Jimini analogue jamming, with a Flyypost's goosebump vox version of 'ON THE ROAD' with Molly Knew. Pressed on transparent burnt orange vinyl, with hand stamped toadstool sleeves and 40mm micro labels! We are also giving the full EP away as a free digital wave download with 2 extra bonus tracks...

Early August will see the Martinez Brothers Cuttin' Headz imprint return with a five-track EP from Luke Solomon, featuring remixes from Byron The Aquarius and Filsonik.
Although only marking its seventh release here the Cuttin' Headz imprint has carved out quite the reputation already with its most recent output, a collaboration between label-heads Martinez Brothers and Miss Kittin garnering huge support from both underground and commercial tastemakers.
Here though we see the label reach out to one of underground house music's most revered producers, namely Luke Solomon, co-founder of The Classic Music Company alongside Derrick Carter and a name synonymous with raw, authentic and soulful electronic music.
The Vocal Mix of 'Script kicks things off and sees Solomon deliver a typically unique take on modern house music via crunchy rhythms, deftly flowing bass sequences and an ever-evolving dynamic while Nick Maurer's murky vocal stylings are intricately processed to further fuel the tripped-out hypnotic feel of the record. 'Beats Work' follows and lays the focus on bumpy percussion, a heady 303 lead, sporadic synth fills and a hooky vocal lick to create an understated dance floor workout.
Atlanta's Byron The Aquarius turns in a dreamy interpretation of 'Script' to follow, employing mesmeric bell chimes and soft atmospherics to swell around the foundation of the original composition before New York's Filsonik strips things back to the core his rough and ready 808 led rework. The package is then closed with a 'Long Time Dub' from Luke focusing solely on the driving energy of the record.

In times where a compilation of 12-inch bangers passes as an album, Telephones "Vibe Telemetry" opts for a different approach. Without being a departure from his 12's for Sex Tags Ufo, Full Pupp and yours truly or his brilliant remix work for José Padilla and Vangelis Katsoulis, the Norwegian producer from Bergen who calls Berlin his home, hones sound, skills and aesthetics on his debut long-player.

"Vibe Telemetry" is inspired by the pure feeling of listening to house, disco and techno, prior to knowing what it actually was: ambiguous, euphoric, mystical and melancholic. Sonic and physical experiences, which names and origins were yet to be discovered.

Junes delivers another trio of distinctive, whacked-out shufflers to Galdoors. First up it's Trails, stomping through glimmering, trippy textures with an emphatic groove. Shift State brings dubby delays and heavyweight bells that bounce back and forth over another potent rhythm to heady effect. Precipice makes use of a more menacing combo: clipped congas and swinging highs gang up with a bullish sub bass, before the icy pads grab hold - not for kids.

Upon its sixth release, Flyance Records proudly features British producer Miles Sagnia. This new piece is a perfect embodiement of the label's vibe, with deep pads, dub keys, 909 beats and 303 acid on the A-side; and with a resolutely deep techno track, with darker textures and hypnotic rhythms, on the B-side.

1x each customer!!

The wonderful Black Ops sub label from the SLEAZYBEATS people wraps up, which has been a monumentally successful series by anyone's standards, with an EP from the notorious sample bandits, The Popular People's Front
Over a decade after launching a distinctive series whose ambitions amounted to no less than condensing thirty years of black club music into a beautifully packaged, portable collage of sonic sample goodness, the SB crew tracked them down & appealed to their anarchic, nihilistic nature by offering them the final release on the label. The PPF project itself came to a close at release No. 10, so the synchronicity was strong
For no other reason than a desire to celebrate dancefloor abandon and strive to soundtrack the purest forms of hedonism, ambiguous sexuality and a transcendent celebration of outsider culture, not to mention a green light to shamelessly exploit, steal and otherwise pilfer their source material, they said yes.
After trying, with no small amount of success to transcend the basic 'edit' through the PPF series, the band have again worked their collage approach into three truly magical cuts
As always, this is a limited, vinyl only release. It will not be repressed and will not be released digitally. Not now, not ever.
