Following the success of two collaborative releases (EMC “The Show”/2008 and Ace & Edo G “Arts & Entertainment” /2009), Masta Ace joins forces with the metal faced MF Doom for Son of Yvonne, a highly personal concept album that celebrates the life and legacy of Ace’s recently departed Mother. Like his 2004 landmark Disposable Arts, Son of Yvonne is meticulously constructed with stories, settings, and characters that resonate with flesh and bone humanity. Interstitial vignettes provide a thematic backbone to the experience, and each track complements and completes the previous to form a narrative whole: a sometimes visceral, sometimes nostalgic slice of Ace’s young life in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Entirely underscored by MF Doom’s iconic Special Herbs instrumentals, Son of Yvonne features the Juice Crew general Big Daddy Kane, new comers Pav Bundy (The Bundies), Reggie B and even MF Doom on the mic. It’s Masta Ace’s no frills flow, however, that looms largest above the dusty samples and digger loops that define Doom’s production. Ace’s photo-realistic rhymes about stick-up kids, spraycan artists and wack emcees add extra gravity to his already celebrated reputation as “truly an under-appreciated rap veteran and underground luminary” (Allmusic Guide). Ma Ze Music is just seven releases deep but is already overdelivering on expectations. This latest offering is a second from Yanuka, which is the solo project of acclaimed keyboardist, composer and producer Tomer Zuk. Here he hooks up with Elran Dekel on 'Where Is My Love' for a gently psyched-out and global soul and downtempo fusion that pairs textured guitar riffs with cartoon boings, conscious vocal musings and a blend of romantic and heart-aching moods. It's warm and intimate and then Ma Ze's regulars UV & Nenor take care of the flip with 'Where Is The Dub' which strips the original to a hazy, slow-motion dub.

Songs of Joy and Peace is a Christmas music album by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, originally released in 2008. The album features collaborations with many other artists, including vocalists Diana Krall & Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Dave Brubeck and Chris Botti.

This holiday disc doesn't exclusively stick to traditional Christmas songs, but covers a wide scope of material in a very ambitious manner. Ma opens with a lovely take of the traditional favorite “Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us Peace)”, playing both the melody and counterpoint via overdubbing.

Jazz pianist/vocalist Diana Krall is superb in a swinging rendition of Jerome Kern's unjustly obscure "You Couldn't Be Cuter", adding bassist John Clayton. An arrangement of “Joy To The World” features pianist Dave Brubeck and cellist Matt Brubeck (his son). Chris Botti has never sounded better in the warm arrangement of “My Favorite Things”, playing both open and muted trumpet. James Taylor is featured on vocals on the Beatles cover “Here Comes The Sun”.

This album plays like an invitation rather than a record - a slow boarding pass to an imagined retreat somewhere beyond gravity. Analogue synths shimmer like gold, bubbling rhythms drift in gentle orbits, and playful melodies sketch out distant galaxies with an easy, unforced charm. There's a strong lineage here, with the music echoing classic library and soundtrack recordings cherished by deep diggers, yet it never feels nostalgic for its own sake. The grooves are light but nourishing - 'Uranium Jungle' has a touch of Luke Vibert's frisky funk about it, while 'Martian Sunset' is interstellar bossa nova with a light dusting of 70s analogue magic to boot - designed as much for sofa-bound drifting as for attentive listening. TGP & LDG return with their second collaboration, Chronoscope vol.2 - a four cuts of refined techno and minimalism. On side A Mike Parker delivers two uncompromising compositions showcasing his signature precision with relentless, tunnel-vision aesthetic. Side B opens with Yuta / O-MA’s minimal, stripped back and bleep-heavy piece, while Ness closes the release with a deep tribal-infused techno journey.

The soundtrack of Imaginária Records continues through the natural elements of our planet. Split into the three moments of a single cycle, after the journey (The Trip) and then the places (The Place), to arrive at a conclusive return. The label traces the steps of a metaphysical journey that becomes a metaphor for life, the essence of research and the richness of encounters. And it is in this record: Home. The environment contains many sets of rhythms: those dividing day from night, sun from moon, summer from winter. To all things there is a season. There is a time for light and a time for darkness, a time for activity and a time for rest, a time for sound and a time for not-sound. Noise pollution results when man does not listen carefully. Noises are the sounds we have learned to ignore. Which sounds do we want to preserve, encourage, multiply?

When we know this, the boring or destructive sounds will be conspicuous enough and we will know why we must eliminate them. Only a total appreciation of the acoustic environmentcan give us the resources for improving the orchestration of the world soundscape.

New York’s Ma Sha brings wigged-out rhythms to Nerve Collect with an explosive, future-facing new EP. The six tracks prove she is bound by no rules but knows exactly how to energise the club.

Ma Sha deals in sounds that operate outside the usual boundaries and demand full-bodied, physical reactions. She has become a driving force in the New York underground with Kindergarten, which is both a much-loved party and a much hyped label. Though built on global techno foundations, Sha’s grooves range from peak-time brain melters to more twisted and rugged, always at high tempo and with plenty of invention on labels like Steel City Dance Discs and Rhythm Section International.

‘Salpa’ opens with a clipped rhythm drenched in neon and psychedelic swirls as oversized bass cocoons from below with glitchy vocal fragments and hard but bouncy techno momentum. ‘Gillz’ swallows you in waves of bass and rubber kicks while screwy synths spray across the mix while a syncopated broken beat brings irresistible funk to a post-human world. ‘Shots’, a collab track with Hodge, works in overdrive with rising tones and liquid metal textures that trap you in a hall of mirrors. Intense club pressure builds with pristine percussion and hyperreal vocals.

‘Spinmachine’ is a freaky sound world of fuzzy synths, cantering drums and static electricity that is full of threat and never lets go. ‘Total Energy’ locks into rolling drums and hyping swing with descending leads and a sense of future rave chaos designed for sheer dance floor release.

Ma Sha’s sound designs feel beamed back from the future to rewire familiar rhythms that tickle the brain as they make their way through your entire body.

Performing on the Baroque cello (outfitted with gut strings and without an endpin, making it so that the performer has to clutch the instrument between the legs), Yo-Yo Ma delivers the warm, listener-friendly classical music that he has become known for. Supported by conductor Ton Koopman's period Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Ma presents a wholly unusual interpretation of some of Bach's better known Baroque works, as well as some lesser known pieces by Italian composer Luigi Boccherini.

The sound of the Baroque cello changes the mood of each familiar piece to something warmer and more intimate. The string composition has a less dry tone than the usual wound string, and the absence of the endpin means that there is no sound traveling through the floor, therefore all of the sound comes directly from the body of the instrument. Ma's skilled handling of the pieces evolve Simply Baroque beyond an interesting experiment and into a beautiful listening experience.

Simply Baroque is available as a limited edition of 500 copies on aquamarine vinyl and includes a 4-page booklet with liner notes.

With the collaboration of Blandine Rinkel, who gives voice to these texts, Superpoze creates a powerful album of songs that speaks to us about transmission, imagination, and secrecy.

Yanuka is the solo project of acclaimed keyboardist, composer and producer Tomer Zuk and here he makes his debut on Ma Ze Music with Hashrika and No Tomorrow. Known for his cinematic touch and eclectic style, Zuk blends Middle Eastern motifs, hypnotic grooves, and meditative atmospheres into what feels like a modern-day Morricone from the desert. There are psyched out 60s elements, Library music overtones, funk, soul and jazz instrumentals and great sound designs all bringing these two mysterious and enchanting sounds alive. The first is a late-night wander that echoes Khrangbuin and the second is all wah-wah magic and slick, rolling rhythms.

In a levitating state, not exactly detached from the unease of these end times, Sousa surrounds himself by a number of accomplices from past and present endeavours to project a scrying mirror reflection of distinct languages of trance and liberation - dub's space and infinity, jungle and footwork's broken shards, DJ Screws legacy perpetually reanimated via numerous slowed down anonymous versions on Youtube and the lyricism and fire of jazz.

Temporarily a quartet, comprised of Sousa on saxophone and its electronic processing, Bruno Silva and Simão Simões on electronics and Gabriel Ferrandini on acoustic and electronic drums, after the departure of Miguel Abras, Má Estrela had in their 2022 debut album their first document of this ongoing process that’s now continued with ‘Tornada". Miguel Abras has since been replaced with Bruna de Moura and Má Estrela came back to being a five piece.

Coming out in November through Discrepant, with Miguel Abras' bass still present, 'Tornada' deepens the symbiotic connection between those rhythmic, melodic and textural particles in a mutating flux of continuities and disruptions throughout seven tracks. Featuring the invocations of Elvin Brandhi in 'All You Did', 'Tornada' makes its way amidst harmonic spectres, rhythmic debris that breathe for life and a certain, implicit idea of ritual that sustains itself liminally between the ethereal dissolution of time and the physical projection of space.

Belinda Zhawi aka MA.MOYO is a Zimbabwean born author and literary & sound artist, based in London, her work explores the African diaspora and deepening the connection between education and art. Also apart of the group BZDB, whose LP on AD93 received critical acclaim last year.

The record is produced by Nova Varnrable, who has frequented on imprints like Escho, 5 Gate Temple, Scenic Route & Kulør. Viva Voce Vol. 1 releases on the UK label Accidental Meetings, who constantly explore a wide variation of sonics.

Schostakowitsch zu spielen. Die kontrastierenden Werke erscheinen nun anlässlich des 50. Todestages des
Komponisten bei der Deutschen Grammophon auf CD und Vinyl.
Schostakowitschs Cellokonzert Nr. 1 in Es-Dur stammt aus dem Jahr 1959. Der Komponist widmete
es seinem langjährigen Freund Mstislaw Rostropowitsch, der auch die Uraufführung spielte. Für Yo-Yo Ma
war das anspruchsvolle Werk ein früher Meilenstein in seiner Karriere. Mit der ihm eigenen virtuosen Brillanz bringt er die kontrastreichen Stimmungen der Komposition, von dunkler Ironie bis hin zu ergreifender
Lyrik, zur Geltung.
Mit dem Cellokonzert Nr. 2 in G-Dur, das 1966 ebenfalls von Rostropowitsch uraufgeführt wurde, machte
sich Schostakowitsch selbst ein Geschenk zum 60. Geburtstag. Dieses eher reflektierende, in sich gekehrte
Werk wird seltener aufgeführt als sein Vorgänger. Wie der Boston Globe jedoch feststellte, ”hätte man
sich kaum einen besseren Weg durch dieses weniger vertraute Gebiet wünschen können als den Weg, den
Ma mit Nelsons und dem BSO einschlug“.

Fumitake Tamura (Leaving Records) and Jason Kolàr (Dauw, Stroom) return to Dauw with 'Suki-Ma', a cassette only mixtape including music from the same sessions that led to their debut 'Ōki-sa' which was released last year. According to the artists, 'Suki-Ma' is conceived as a mixtape rather than a new album. A draft rather than a new step.

隙間 (Suki-Ma) refers to the space or gap between objects, a concept that invites reflection on what lies between the defined and the undefined. This mixtape embodies that in-between state: a fluid, open sketch existing at the intersection of ideas. Despite its more polished production, it embraces imperfection and incompleteness, serving as a continuation of Ōki-sa (大きさ, meaning ‘size’, ‘largeness’ or ‘spaciousness’), while embracing further misunderstandings in the creation of a new record.

With Taylor, she recorded the duet ""Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight"". Two singles from the album received silver status, ""Je voudrais la connaître"" and ""Quand j'ai peur de tout"". The latter was written by Diane Warren and later succesfully translated and covered by Sugababes as ""Too Lost in You"". The album went to #1 in Belgium and reached the Top 10 in Finland, French, Germany, and Switzerland. Dans Ma Chair is available as a limited edition of 1000(?) individually numbered copies on red coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

Songs of Joy and Peace is a Christmas music album by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, originally released in 2008. The album features collaborations with many other artists, including vocalists Diana Krall & Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Dave Brubeck, Chris Botti a.o. This holiday disc doesn't exclusively stick to traditional Christmas songs, but covers a wide scope of material in a very ambitious manner. Ma opens with a lovely take of the traditional favorite “Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us Peace)”, playing both the melody and counterpoint via overdubbing. Jazz pianist/vocalist Diana Krall is superb in a swinging rendition of Jerome Kern's unjustly obscure ""You Couldn't Be Cuter"", adding bassist John Clayton. An arrangement of “Joy To The World” features pianist Dave Brubeck and cellist Matt Brubeck (his son). Chris Botti has never sounded better in the warm arrangement of “My Favorite Things”, playing both open and muted trumpet. James Taylor is featured on vocals on the Beatles cover “Here Comes The Sun”. Songs of Joy & Peace is a limited edition of 500 copies on translucent green coloured vinyl.

This EP is delicately melodic and fluid that even in its short four tracks shows a producer with different bows to their arrow. Intro is a laid back, downtempo affair with vocal samples punctuating the track’s pared down synths and gently propulsive beats.

Contrast that with Engang, which sees Jos Ma chisel all other elements away and put trust in the groove and urgency of its percussive elements. It’s something he echoes in Like Honey, although here the bright stabs of keys provide a welcome interjection - as does the chopped-up vocals that offer a further counterpoint to its kwaito-reminiscent shuffle. It is perhaps here that his respect and love of central and southern Africa’s dance forms is presented at its most bare.

The EP finishes with Mongo’s Dance, so-called after the Cuban Mongo Santamaria and driven forward by a chopped-up pachanga rhythm taken from one of the pioneering percussionist’s tracks. He then adorns it with wavy synths and flutes, each intertwining over the top as though engaged in ritual with one another. It’s a euphoric, slightly delirious end to an EP that puts Jos Ma firmly in Mas O Menos’ “neither here nor there” camp – a producer who simply follows his instincts and revels in the enthrallingly wandering music it throws up.

UV & Nenor have been on a hot streak of late with great outings on the likes of the Fossils label and now they keep it up with a red hot new drop on the brand new Massa label. Sagen wir, eine bunte Schar von Maron-Fans. Er war über Jahrzehnte der österreichische Protestsänger schlechthin. Im Mai 2024 wäre Maron, 2016 verstorben, achtzig Jahre alt geworden. Hier wird er wieder lebendig. Der Song "Red'n kaun ma boid" eröffnet diese Schallplatte, die - mit einer Auswahl der bekanntesten und beliebtesten Songs von Sigi Maron - ein Denkmal setzen will. Ein programmatischer Auftakt. "Red'n kaun ma boid" heißt auch ein Buch, das gemeinsam mit diesem Tonträger erscheint. Zusammen eröffnen die druck- und pressfrischen Memorabilia ein weites Feld von Erinnerungen, Ein- und Wertschätzungen, Schlaglichtern und Songbeispielen, die das Unterfangen, ein dauerhaftes Bild des Künstlers zu zeichnen, mit- und weitertragen. Denn eines ist klar: es braucht die Lieder, es braucht die Worte, es braucht die Stimme von Sigi Maron, um ihn noch einmal (und vielleicht auf Dauer) mitten in den Raum zu stellen. Die Unbill diverser Lebens-Handicaps, Zeitgeisterstunden und Alltagswidrigkeiten wurde bei ihm Zeit seines Lebens mit dem Rock'n'Rollstuhl entsorgt. 1944 in Wien geboren, wuchs Sigi Maron mit sechs Geschwistern in Gneixendorf bei Krems auf. In den siebziger Jahren reifte er im Umfeld der "Arena"-Bewegung zum sozialkritischen Liedermacher heran. Sein erstes Album ("Schön is des Lebn", 1976) produzierte André Heller. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Schmetterlingen, später mit dem Kevin Coyne-Produzenten Bob Ward und mit Konstantin Wecker schuf er zeitlos gültige Meisterwerke wie "Laut & leise", "He Taxi", "5 vor 12" oder "Unterm Regenbogen". Die Single "Geh' no net fort" rangierte 1985 zehn Wochen lang in den Charts. Maron galt dabei immer als eine der schärfsten Speerspitzen der explizit politischen Kunst. 1998 und 2003 kandidierte er für die Kommunistische Partei für den niederösterreichischen Landtag. Vom beißenden Spott, der zärtlichen Zynik und volksverbundenen Derbheit seiner Formulierungswut blieben aber auch die eigenen Genossen meist nicht verschont. Manche erinnern sich: einst, Anfang der achtziger Jahre, protestierte Maron gegen den weitgehenden Ö3-Boykott der kritischen Liedermacher - die "Musicbox" war eine Ausnahme - vor dem Wiener Funkhaus. Und wurde dafür von der Polizei in die Psychiatrie eingeliefert. Dass er dereinst auch geliebt, gehört, geehrt würde, war damals nicht absehbar. Es ist eventuell eine späte Wiedergutmachung. Diese Schallplatte, die die die objektiv und subjektiv größten "Hits" einer langen Laufbahn versammelt (eine Handvoll Lieder, die drei bewegte Jahrzehnte umspannen), sollte jedenfalls einen Ehrenplatz finden im Pop-Archiv des Landes. Für viele wird die Revue der alten Songs ein Wiederhören bedeuten. Für andere ein lustvolles Neu-Entdecken. Dass es sich keineswegs um harmlosen, schunkelseligen "Austropop" handelt, auch wenn der Komponist und Texter nie dessen oberflächlichen Strickmustern entsagt hat, wird nach dem ersten Durchhören klar. Die Ehrenmitgliedschaft im Verein für deutliche Aussprache war und ist ihm sicher. Es gibt keinen zweiten wie Sigi, behalten wir ihn nachhaltig im Herzen.

Ahemaa Nwomkro, which means queens of Nwomkro, are Victoria Osei and Theresa Owusuaa. Nwomkro is an old Ashanti musical style, which played an influential role in the origin of the typical more roots-like Highlife style of Kumasi, the cultural capital of Ghana in the middle of the jungle.

On this release the two singers have teamed up with the young generation of Highlife muicians of Kumasi. On guitar is Akule Pepe, who served for years in the group of Highlife legend Alex Konadu, the most on demand band in its time. The two songs are a rare example of how good pure Nwomkro gets together with typical Highlife.

Tor.Ma in Dub’s bass-quaking Terra and it’s fierce flipside Terra Dub drop on 7” this May 5th.

Terra’s pulsating bassline is complemented by sparse tribal percussion and disembodied vocals, creating a grounded and meditative vibe.

Terra Dub is straighter and heavier, with a punchy bass and a relentless steppers rhythm, guaranteed to lively up the dancefloor.

Both tracks are taken from the Solve et Coagula album, which focused on alchemy and transformation, with the elements presented in pairs. Downbeat dubs morph into uptempo steppers, all crafted with the unique blend of roots and psychedelia that are the hallmarks of the Mexico-based producer’s style.

American cellist prodigy Yo-Yo Ma recorded Sing Me Home with the Silk Road Ensemble, a musical collective with performers and composers from all over the world. The album features guest appearances by Grammy Award winning artists Toumani Diabaté, Gregory Porter, Lisa Fischer, Bill Frisell and many more.

Released in 2016, Sing Me Home was meant to open hearts, ears and minds during a time of tragedy and political turmoil. “All around the world, people constantly meet the unfamiliar through change,” Yo-Yo Ma said of the album. “Rapid or dramatic change can feel threatening, tempting us to build walls to defend against the unknown. At Silk Road we build bridges. In the face of change and difference, we find ways to integrate and synthesize, to forge relationships, and to create joy and meaning.”

Bringing together the cultural backgrounds of the musicians, Sing Me Home is a culturally conscious album, reflecting on modern globalisation and collaboration. From Macedonian folk to traditional music from Mali, and from Irish fiddle to Indian sitar: it all comes together wonderfully. Critics agreed, and the album went on to win the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 2017.

Ma Spaventi makes a slick return to Slow Motion Records with the captivating ‘Tornerò’.

Descending arps trickle into ‘Tornerò’ from the get-go. Vocoded vocals flutter through the masterful mix, weaving into inviting synth swells. Defined drums are firmly felt across this record.

‘Non Ce L’Hai Solo Tu’ is a Detroit-infused, fierce floor filler. Layering vocoder motifs with crisp synth stabs make for many a euphoric payoff. The intelligent entwining of electro, early Detroit house and Ma Spaventi’s effortless earworms are plentiful. His gift for haunting, strong melodic intonation is prevalent in ‘Costa Brava.’ A grounded, growling bassline rasps throughout the track, reeling you further and further into this whirlpool of brilliance.

‘Tornerò Reprise’ closes this magnificent EP beautifully. Whispering vocal lines are hauntingly blended with synthesiser noise, keeping in line with the swells across the record and resolving the first edition of ‘Tornerò’ with a more acidic conclusion.

The revered Italian producer, mixing and mastering engineer makes his abundant sonic expertise clear in this enticing LP. Encapsulating his talents, ‘Tornerò’ transports you to Ma Spaventi’s unmatched state of flow.

Following the success of two collaborative releases (EMC "The Show" / 2008 and Ace & Edo G "Arts & Entertainment" / 2009), Masta Ace joins forces with the metal faced MF Doom for Son of Yvonne, a highly personal concept album that celebrates the life and legacy of Ace's recently departed Mother. Like his 2004 landmark Disposable Arts, Son of Yvonne is meticulously constructed with stories, settings, and characters that resonate with flesh and bone humanity. Interstitial vignettes provide a thematic backbone to the experience, and each track complements and completes the previous to form a narrative whole: a sometimes visceral, sometimes nostalgic slice of Ace's young life in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Entirely underscored by MF Doom's iconic Special Herbs instrumentals, Son of Yvonne features the Juice Crew general Big Daddy Kane, new comers Pav Bundy (The Bundies), Reggie B and even MF Doom on the mic. It's Masta Ace's no frills flow, however, that looms largest above the dusty samples and digger loops that define Doom's production. Ace's photo-realistic rhymes about stick-up kids, spraycan artists and wack emcees add extra gravity to his already celebrated reputation as "truly an underappreciated rap veteran and underground luminary" (Allmusic Guide). Ma Spaventi is a wonderfully versatile artist. Over his decade-long career, the Italian musician has turned his capable hand to everything from ambient to techno. Once again, he is expanding his sound palette and challenging expectations with Vicino Lontano.

Across eight tracks, an array of ideas and influences are explored with additional guitar work coming care of Odeon’s Michele Righini. The reflective hues of “Solitario” give way to the warming strings and peaceful brightness of “Crepuscolo.” Written and produced in Amsterdam between 2017 and 2019, beautiful memories of the past are the source of inspiration. Radiating Summer sunshine bathes “Bring Me Back” in a comforting glow, while “Velvet Lights” teases rhythm sections with thick bass lines and shimmering synth work. Moments of introspection arrive in the elegant gliding forms of “Bomber” and “Intermezzo.” The rumbling “End Line” finds harmony amongst a spread of styles, cascading chords and rich textures, all combining beautifully. Ihre Zusammenarbeit erstreckt sich von gemeinsamen Konzerten, der Zusammenarbeit bei Filmmusiken bis hin zur Amtseinführung von Präsident Barack Obama im Jahr 2008 und ist von einer dauerhaften gegenseitigen Wertschätzung geprägt. Von ihren ersten Begegnungen an erkannte jeder im anderen das Verständnis, dass, wie Williams es einfach ausdrückt, "Musik unser Sauerstoff ist".Im Mittelpunkt von "A Gathering of Friends" steht die Ersteinspielung von John Williams' neu überarbeiteter Version seines Cellokonzerts, das er 1994 für Ma komponierte und das beide bereits 2001 für Sony Classical aufnahmen. Während der Aufführungen des viersätzigen Konzerts in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten nahm Williams bereits erhebliche Änderungen an der Partitur vor. Ma merkte an, dass die neue Version sogar "größere Änderungen, strukturelle Änderungen" enthält, mit einem Schlusssatz, der "ein einziger glorreicher Song ist". Ebenfalls auf "A Gathering of Friends" zu hören sind neue Arrangements, die John Williams für Yo-Yo Ma von drei Stücken aus seiner mit dem Oscar ausgezeichneten Filmmusik zu "Schindlers Liste" geschaffen hat sowie ein neues Arrangement für Cello und Streicher von "With Malice Toward None" aus der Filmmusik zu "Lincoln" von 2012. Das Album schließt mit einem Duo-Arrangement für Ma und den Gitarristen Pablo Sáinz-Villegas von "Prayer for Peace" aus dem Film "München" von 2005. Alle drei Filmmusiken sind Teile der langjährigen Partnerschaft von Williams mit Regisseur Steven Spielberg.Das andere Konzertstück auf "A Gathering of Friends" ist "Highwood's Ghost", ein Stück von John Williams für Cello und Orchester, das die Freundschaft zwischen Williams und Ma im Bezug zum legendären Komponisten und Dirigenten Leonard Bernstein dokumentiert. Williams komponierte das Werk zur Feier des 100-jährigen Jubiläums von Leonard Bernstein in Tanglewood im Sommer 2018 und schrieb eindringliche Solopartien für Ma und die Soloharfenistin des Boston Symphony Orchestra, Jessica Zhou, die auch bei dieser Aufnahme mit dem New York Philharmonic die Harfe spielt."A Gathering of Friends" ist das musikalische Highlight einer langjährigen Freundschaft und ein großartiges Album für alle Fans der Musik von John Williams und Yo Yo Ma.
