Various - AFRO SPAZIO REMIXES
COS006
COSMICA MUSIC
10inch04.10.201904.OCT.19

HouseDeepElectroTribalDiscoTechnoTechno

Tagliabue provides the two original tracks from his AFRO SPAZIO EP released on COSMICA MUSIC in May 2019. With psychedelic atmospherics, deep melodic layers and tribal rhythmic formations, he sets a wonderful palette of cosmic frequencies, to stimulate the remixers visionary powers and creativity. DJ Rocca started to produce in the late 90s, working on some drum&bass and breakbeat singles as Maffia Soundsystem from the same name club in Italy, where he was the main resident DJ. In his career he
collaborated with Howie B, Pressure Drop, Zed Bias, Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli and Jazzanova producing singles, remixes and albums on some of the best european labels as Sonar Kollektiv, Compost, Classic, Rekids, Skint, Hell Yeah, Rebirth, Internasjonal, Futureboogie Recordings, !K7, Deep Freeze, Tirk,
International Feel, Defected, Skint, Gomma, Paper Recordings. As a producer, DJ Rocca is also part of Ajello (with Taver), Supersonic Lovers (with Marcello Giordani) and Crimea X (with Jukka Reverberi). He has remixed big names such as Oliver Koletzki, Luke Solomon, Blaze, Isolee, Pete Herbert, Bjorn Torske, Chris Coco, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Soul Clap and now our very own Joseph Tagliabue. With the award-winning jazz musician Franco D’Andrea he has formed the Electric Tree Project, a contemporary music trio, hovering between jazz and electronics, with a double album released in April 2016 on Parco Della Musica Records, defined as record of the month for the magazine Musica Jazz (June 2016). The collaboration with such a great name of the jazz scene, moves on with the realisation of an octet and the production of a new album entitled “Intervals I”, recorded live at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome last March 2017. Mushrooms Project is Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano, producers and serial collectors of vinyl with a common passion for dj’ing and for any type of music whatsoever. The project came into being in 2003 when Giorgio, a punk band drummer and vinyl collector with a strong preference for anything from psychedelic rock to Afro, meets Marco a deejay since 1994 who mixes every possible kind of dance music; from afro to house, passing through techno and progressive. 2013 saw their debut album ‘Undergrass’ released on Leng Records, which was a continuous evolution of their sound elaborated in close contact with other musicians.
In 2015, Ivan King, a talented guitarist who had collaborated many times with the Mushrooms Project, became an integral part of their productions. They have now dj’ed across the world and are known for their hallucinating and all encompassing music that is made using live instrumentation such as guitar, bass, synth and percussion to create a “dirty” but unique insight to the very long, deep, mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.
We are proud to showcase a pure Italian collaboration effort. The uprising talents of the new generation of progressive producers meet with the Masters of the Cosmic House genre for an epic production.

DJ W!LD and Shaun Reeves - Bag Of Bones EP
VQSE015
Visionquest Special Edition
12inch01.10.201901.OCT.19

HouseDeepTechVinyl Only

Late September 2019 will see the release of DJ W!LD Shaun Reeves' collaborative EP, "Bag of Bones" on Vision Quest Special Edition, the vinyl only arm of Visionquest.

No strangers to working together, the pair have cooked up an excellent EP for their latest outing, comprised of 4 heady, floor ready cuts. Shaun Reeves, co-head of Visionquest, is a Detroiter turned Berliner who has been at the forefront of the industry for over a decade. An instrumental part of both cities and everywhere in between he has been playing the top clubs and festivals his entire career. Reeves has released on labels ranging from Raum...musik to Wolf + Lamb and of course Visionquest, with artists like Seth Troxler and Maayan Nidam. DJ W!LD is as well a time tested veteran of the game who grew up listening to Laurent Garnier dj in his home town of Dijon, France. A life long record collector, he has played all over the world at the most prestigious clubs including Fabric, Panorama Bar and Amnesia for events ranging from Cocoon to Circoloco. DJ W!LD runs two labels, the W label and DAILYCID and has released on REKIDS offshoot, Cabin Fever, One Records, 2020 Vision and Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano's Ral series.

On the first track, "Bag of Bones", the EP starts out with a banging kick, a choppy percussion loop, floating atmospherics and a sound like a distant train or a car horn honking moments before impact. Low sub bass is complimented by a mid range bass line that drives the track forward. This leads to a subtle break down, when the track flips on it's head and jumps back in with a rising rush, a new bassline, peculiar vocal snippets and some bouncing hi hats skittering side to side.

Track two, "Taima", starts with a heavily phased sample that almost sounds like recorded room noise. Swinging percussion pops in with a punchy bass line and a mean kick that all gets thrown around by a mechanical machine sound that rips in and out with bleeps that sound like feedback from some sort of lunar device. A repeated, bleepy key loop emerges, balancing all the percussion and propels the track forward. It's hypnotic, deep and banging all at the same time.

"Chronicals of Narnia" starts with a big kick and a hat, snare/clap combo that's drenched in vinyl dirt and phase. A beautiful ambient texture pad drops in that lifts the vibe of the track without it getting bogged down or muddled by the atmospherics, only to snap back into the original tough beat with a fat pocket.

The EP finishes with "Purple Urkle", which starts with tough percussion, again doused in this amazingly overdriven phased/flanged texture. Other seemingly found sounds jolt in and out all around the audio spectrum while a distant pad rides in the background, sounding like it might be sampled from an old classical vinyl. The EP is another welcome addition to VQSE, drenched in its own grit and unique sound it's sure to please listeners and dancers from all ends of the musical spectrum.

MLiR & ARNAU OBIOLS - LAJBANS
LT100
Local Talk
12inch26.09.201926.SEP.19

HouseDeepVocalClubDance

We've reached a pivotal moment for Local Talk.
What better way to celebrate a centenary of forward thinking releases than to present one of the best kept secrets out there, MLiR aka Modern Life Is Rubbish this time joined by Arnau Obios.

After making a serious impact with their remarkable 'Swedish Lo-Life' and 'Trans-World Junktion' releases on fellow Swedish label Studio Barnhus, we're thrilled to have them onboard for our 100th release on Local Talk.

Yes, that is correct, we’re celebrating the big 100. Since the very beginning we've covered everything from the deeper shades of house to the jackin' and the gritty club jams, released some slower BPMs and also the uplifting, vocal and organic house.
As you probably noticed - we love it all.

The 100th release main track 'Lajbans' is one of those sublime tunes that is bridging the gap between all styles of dance music and got the MLiR trademark, it's epic and manages to offer plenty of subtle details to keep you locked for the full 9 minute experience.
Accompanied with the original is a masterclass in dub 'Lajbans (Bellaterra dub)'.
You got the versatility of the original carefully stripped back but also absorbing layers upon layers of seductive sonic moods, it's a trip for sure and you don't want it to end.
Once again MLiR proves why they will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come...

Wayward - The Energy / Space Marines
BEAR0014
Silver Bear Recordings
12inch02.10.201902.OCT.19

HouseDeepTech

UK duo Wayward continue to turn heads after a big 2018 and return with a fresh new EP that features a remix from cult minimal man, Voigtmann.

For their latest offering, they turn once more to Silver Bear Recordings as newly announced co managers of the label and in the process remind us of the depth and talent that remains a hallmark of their output.  Opener 'The Energy' is a driving cut with lush drum layers carrying you along as distant pads flesh out the groove. Soft female whispers add layers of soul and the whole thing will make close-knit floors go off. 'Space Marines' then gets more edgy, with techno-leaning drums and freaky samples that make for a pumping but classy groove, finished in style by some heavenly sounding, uplifting pads. Voigtmann is a long time underground figure, releasing on a range of vital labels and has a superbly reduced sound, showcased here on his druggy, infectious remix. Notable for its swirling pads and zoned out vibes, it rounds off another expert Wayward release.

Freak Beats

HouseDeepChicagoFunkyDetroitTechnoTechno

Staying true to those bottom heavy US house vibes, the Freak is back with a release even chunkier than the first on this imprint.

The mysterious and self proclaimed creator of 'concrete funk' ensures that all four tracks of this release deserve serious floor space.

Side A is a perfect merger off a Chicago v Detroit sound, with jacking drums overlapping deep but never dull chords and stabs. With stabs of vocals reminding the room that you are seriously 'Mackin tha Heat'.

The B-side shows a completely different sound to the freak with chunky acid house sounds accompanied by a track that has a hypnotic techno style groove from start to end.

Joshua James - Journeys In Love (Inc. Joe Goddard Remix)
PH92
PHANTASY SOUND
12inch01.10.201901.OCT.19

HouseDeepTechTechnoTechno

Following his debut on Phantasy earlier in 2019, Joshua James returns to the label with ‘Journeys In Love’, complimented by a propulsive remix from Joe Goddard. Flipping the ruthless sleaze and hi-NRG of ‘Coarse’ on its head, the XOYO and Rinse FM resident presents a release that soundtracks the deeper, more vulnerable and always joyous aspects of London’s queer nightlife culture. ‘Journeys In Love’ lands with immediate effect, building steadily and confidently around a trippy sample and the hugely pleasurable push-and-pull of James’ synths. Breathing deeply and suspended in red-light, James’ new production tastefully recalls the late-hour, sensual attitude classic NYC deep house, while transmissions of a bottom-heavy bass weight anchor the track in the capital’s defiant after-hours scene. As a digital exclusive, the Super Drama remix utilises skittering percussion and cymbal rushes to drive things forward, dissolving with a playful acid coda.
Needing little introduction, Hot Chip and Two Bears co-founder Joe Goddard delivers a soaring and complementary reinterpretation of ‘Journeys In Love’, one built on halcyon, analogue sounds and further bathed in ecstasy and melancholy.

The Maghreban - 01deas 2x12"
RS1802
R&S Records
2x12inch27.03.201827.MAR.18

HouseDeepElectronicaTechnoElectroTechno

The Maghreban aka Ayman Rostom is one of the most unique and respected beat makers working in house and techno today. His dusky grooves, heavy bass pressure and clanking drum breaks sound like they were dredged from the bottom of the river Nile, imbued with a maverick personality that shares kinship with the likes of Detroit's Andres and Waajed, making him a perfect fit on R&S's storied roster of pioneering outsiders. In the past four years, he has released a slew of hotly tipped 12's, mainly on his own label, Zoot, as well as French label Versatile and Bristolian beat mongers Black Acre. Also known as acclaimed hip-hop producer Dr Zygote (also one half of Eglo's Strange U) Rostom has gained a reputation as a producer's producer, garnering heavyweight tastemaker support from the likes of Benji B, Ben UFO, Nicolas Jaar, Trevor Jackson and many others.
After the extended clamour for a Maghreban long player, the wait is over as Rostom is finally ready to unleash his debut album '01DEAS'. "The 12' format is great for the club, but I wanted to go a bit deeper with it, and explore different moods and ideas,' Rostom explains. Packed with richly satisfying cuts, the album draws on the Maghreban's usual musical themes; 90s Home Counties rave, '93 dark jungle, 80s Steppers reggae, Broken Beat, dark modal jazz, colonial Afro Rock and psychedelia.
Despite this eclecticism however, it is the consistently seductive groove at the centre of his music that is the key to his music's ability to entrance the listener.
"Growing up, I remember long car journeys with my dad, he always played a bunch of arabic music, Mohammad Abdel Wahab, Om Kalthoum, Abdel Halim Hafez, as well as Paul Young, Dire Straits, Bob Marley, Otis Redding' Rostom explains. "He used to drum on the steering wheel like a tabla with his palms and fingers - I think that definitely helped me understand rhythm and syncopation." Rostom's love of analogue technology is another key feature of his music, his process often finds him sampling from cassette tapes, employing wheezing compressors, dusty mixing desks and antique effects devices to impart texture, warmth and weight, or as he has described it "The hypnotic sound of confusion'. Throughout 01DEAS a dark mood is evident; "I make heavy, dark music I think growing up with some arabic music allowed me to appreciate minor key stuff. And the Arabic music is big and dramatic. It's one reason I liked death metal and hip-hop in my early teens alongside old hardcore/rave and jungle. It's all heavy, head banging music. I'm usually trying to make the heaviest sounding thing that I can.'
Indeed it is a bit of teenage wish fulfilment for Rostom to be releasing on R&S 'When I was around 11-12 and my brother and I started buying records, the R&S stuff stood out. The Beltram 12's and EPs and Outlander Vamp were records we loved'.
For the first time, the album sees Rostom joined by a stellar cast of guests including Brighton based songstress Victoria Port of Anushka, Zimbabwean vocalist Rutendo Machiridza, rapper A-F-R-O, and best friend Gatto Fritto.

Various - Fifth Interval
FIFTH004
Fifth Interval
12inch13.03.201713.MAR.17

HouseDeepMinimalTech

Fifth Interval gather together some of the most forward thinking minds in the dub techno sphere for this various artists EP. Those already acquainted with the label will be familiar with the likes of Federsen and Tomas Rubeck, who headed up the first and second releases respectively. They are joined by dub techno luminary Brendon Moller, aka Beat Pharmacy and Alessandro Crimi, for this four tracker of perfectly contrasting arrangements.
Federsen opens the proceedings with the sunset sequence of Bay Blues, cascading keys rolling through the gaps in a subtly broken drum arrangement, making for effortless and captivating listening. Beat Pharmacy contributes his first original material to the label after a brace of remixes last year. Showing true mastery of the board, chromed chord stabs are pushed and pulled around the mix in true dubwise style, drifting over a malleable bassline that packs a serious punch.
On the flip side, Tomas Rubeck crafts a tightly woven backdrop of constantly evolving, organic atmospherics and powerful drum work for IO, and this muscular workout is perfectly contrasted by the swung grooves and kaleidoscopic synthesis of Alessandro Crimi's Fractal Clouds, which closes the EP.

NTFO - Lusy
ADM020
AdMaiora Music
excl11.09.201811.SEP.18

HouseDeepTech

AdMaiora hits release number 20 in style with a fresh EP from Romanian established duo NTFO which includes two superb remixes by Lauren Lo Sung and Ilario Liburni. The guys of NTFO (Jargon, 20/20 Vision, Objectivity) are familiar faces for the label as we had the pleasure to release their remix of Ray Okpara's latest 'Sligerstai' which got tons of positive feedback and is currently dominating our Beatport top 10. Now they return with 'Lusy EP' - a lush pleasure of deep house vibes infused with their very own tech groove trademark.

Opener 'Lusy' rotates around a simple but effective shaken groove with thorny kicks and a super crafted sub bassline. The main vocal sample only appears in the right moments and adds a extra sense of elegance to the wandering synths and pads.
Up next, 'Unvelied' goes more minimal for a rubbery tech house piece where little jumbled percussion are immersed into a dark dimensions of gloomy bass and low freaky vocals. The electric synths give an extra spin to the track, derivering a slick house number and we're sure that the melody will stuck in your head for a long time.

On the flip side we have Liverpool's rising talent Lauren Lo Sung on remix duties for 'Lusy'. For Lauren, 2017 was her biggest year so far and 2018 is proving even better. She is consistently delivering well treated club hits on labels such as DJ Steaw's Rutilance, Vatos Locos and Circus, also co-founding her very own 'eleven records' and running sell-out LOLiFE parties in Liverpool, UK.  Lauren's deep stripped-back style focuses on, dub techno with a fresh, organic housy feel and this remix for 'Lusy' is no exception. With a crescendo hands-in-the-air version, Lauren arranges the remix on a pluck that dominates the track above teasing drums and intergalactic pads. A one-to-watch remix from one of the ones to watch stars of the near future.

Lastly goes the remix from Italo-Belgian Ilario Liburni who close the EP with a chunky and funky interpretation of 'Lusy'. Ilario had some massive vinyl hits lately and he also dedicates a lot of efforts on his own Invade and Cardinal labels. His version is dreamy and driving with bubbling synths and an infectious sense of loopines until the breakdown comes in with vague lo-fi synths and strings before it drops with the whispery vocals lending it into a late night feel.

For COS_MOS's next trick they serve up a special 12” that features a brand new single from M>O>S super group R-A-G, also known as MaSpaventi, Aroy Dee and G-String. It comes backed with a re-release of one of the key tracks of the previously released Crystal Maze album on aDepth Audio. A fierce and full 45rpm re-cut of 'Dr Claw' that has been a secret weapon of Aroy Dee for many years. It's a raw cosmic adventure, with warm solar winds blowing over prickly drums. Twisted bass and knotted pads wrap round the groove as a detuned lead synth heads into a Legowelt-ish future. 'Larry Venom', stirs things up with a deconstructed, off kilter mix of beeps and drones with marching drums adding to the feeling that this is a robot party in meltdown. This is a brilliantly left of centre EP of intergalactic house.

SOL POWER SOUND
12inch25.09.201925.SEP.19

HouseDeepBeatsBreak-Beat

Sol Power Sound adds to a string of hot 2019 releases with the Special Features EP by the Sol Power All-Stars, featuring remixes by DJ Spinna and LA's Caserta.

The lead track, Don't You Let Go, features the project's centerpiece, DC-based vocalist Kenny Wesley. His agile tenor swoops and dances over a soulful, multi-layered, dubby excursion. An accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Wesley's career has significant milestones in the jazz, pop, and progressive soul worlds. We're excited for him to step into the dance music lane with us.

We asked DJ Spinna (one of our musical heroes… but isn't he everyone's?) for a Galactic Soul treatment and he delivered inna signature Spinna style, that’ll make you b-line to the dancefloor.

Caserta took it classic NYC (with a lil UKG) on his Caserta's At Work flip. Let the record work through the build, the gospel-esque break down, and then open up into a piano and vibes solo. Patience is a virtue, especially with a peak time slapper like this.

If there is such a thing as a keyboard battle track, Number One Station is it. It features New Orleans-based synth wizard Daniel Meinecke over a broken afrobeat-inspired track, letting all his axes get busy. Trust us, you don't want to step to him (that's also Daniel you hear on Don't You Let Go).

DJ Feedback:

Soul Clap (Eli): Oooof! Some real heat in here. That Spinna mix is fire and the originals too!

Aroop Roy: Really dig the Caserta Remix!

thatmanMonkz: Really lovely package, gotta say, i'm feeling the original version the most! 'Number One' is a bomb too... "

Pontchartrain: Fantastic and classic. Original and Spinna’s stunning remix compliment each other perfectly making sure this will stay in my crate for a while!

Mad Mats (Local Talk) : Spinna Remix is amazing!

Opolopo: #1 Station!

Pete on the Corner (On the Corner Records): Love Spinna, plenty of thump here over 50+ mins - Yes. quick flick through and the dub got my kick and vocal stabs. BIG xx

Cosmo Baker: Amazing release - def gonna give this a lot of burn!!

Peter Croce (Rock Steady Disco): Damn this is bangin'. Love all the versions of the title track but I'm really here for "Number One Station". DM killed it!

Bill Brewster: Out of all of them Number One Station is definitely my jam. The others have percussive touches but this is the fella for me.

Lil Dave / Osage (Bastard Jazz): Sounds tight! Both the remixes hit hard.

Black Spuma - Crunch Level EP
FBR069
FUTURE BOOGIE RECORDINGS
12inch20.09.201920.SEP.19

HouseDeepTechNu DiscoTechnoTechno

When two dudes collide in a cosmic paradise, very special things happen. Black Spuma, otherwise known as regular transcendental misfits Phillip Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella, come correct with a new EP of enchanted grooves for Futureboogie.
Breaking their run of EPs for the International Feel Recordings label, a trio of cuts are lined up on the ‘Crunch Level’ EP.
Title track, ‘Crunch Level’, is a throbbing, pulsating, bit-crunching beast of a track, a full mind and body workout that evokes the darker shades of early acid and new beat. ‘Agguato’ also packs a punch, with drums so big that Stock, Aitken & Waterman would most definitely approve, whilst a waves of hedonistic tones cut through feint melodicas and space invader tropes for a mind melting moment.
Never to end on a whimper, Adamantine goes out with a bang, with an ecstatically buoyant rhythm section and glacial melodies that’ll be transporting you back to the bright neon lights and dry ice of some long forgotten 80’s sweatbox.

Reflections of the mind of Gilb’R and thus exploring many sides, from late night techno to West Indies non sense vocals, from dubby/moody sounds to ambient scapes.

He presents a wonderful EP of three varied tracks, showcasing his prowess in combining synths and sampled bits.

MAGIC BLACK
12inch01.02.201901.FEB.19

HouseDeepTech

Magic Black is happy to share with you this third release by already featured label artist LAROYE. This very particular ep showcases this time his talent to do an unique mixture of afro, lapsteel guitars and yoruba inspired theme and grooves. This ep's roots are deep in the collaboration with Maïa Barouh, whose magnificient flute playing abilities give a soulful afro driven groove and a cosmic touch that reminds us the best hours of Clausell or Chez. Her playing on Awon Iye was very inspiring for Martin Iverson, better known as Atjazz, who picked the tune and turned it into a blasting uptempo broken jazz fusion that he can only create. The opening track is also a must have track which breaks barriers between house, bossa, lapsteel and dreamy vocals. Already a Favourite for many radio deejays. Last but not least, Basamsike is a deep driven afro conga track with vocals coming from a beautiful Malian singer who stays secret for now. Here you have cosmic, groove, melodies and uncommon patterns all together in the best way :definitely what Magic Black has always came for. Tip!
