Almost ten years ago, back in November of 2009, before Let's Play House was even a humble basement-bar and hotel-lobby party, Jacques Renault quietly released a four-track EP on Hole in the Sky, an imprint run by Canyons' Leo Thomson and Ryan Grieve, called Favicon , that was both a snapshot of New York City's glitter-dusted disco-revival haze and the culmination of the first few years of Renault's career through the club circuit. It quickly became a cult classic and set in motion much of what followed for Renault; it added some fuel to the fire that was Runaway, his project with Marcos Ca

The Superfiction saga continues with the release of Episode #7, and this time it's an Italian job. Label bosses Italoboyz & Blind Minded have brought together a band of brothers for the latest in their popular series of releases.
First up and making their label debut are our own musical musketeers, F.D.X.. The talented trio kick of the Episode #7 with Borderline. This no-nonsense, heads-down, driving techy number has a Soul Grabber vibe, and is all the better for it. Relentless in its groove and with vocal stabs that sit deep in the mix, this strong heavy club cut is the perfect opener.
Upping the intensity one notch further is Giacomo Trevi who returns to Superfiction with his latest offering, Moving. A thumping kick matched with piercing metallic percussion, deliver a menacing industrial flavour and create an aggressive yet grooving smash.
The label team open the B with the deep, stripped and hypnotic, Simiottada. The perfect antidote to our energetic opening, Simiottada drifts along with an impressive and atmospheric funk. Keeping it deep and washing us away on a stream of warm bass and steel melody is Federico Molinari with the beautiful Mul End. And what a fine end it is too and the perfect track to close the release.

This is music that comes from playing records. DJ Fiskars have done it for 15 years, subconsciously gathering an assortment of ideas, vibes and moments on the job. It's only now as he's starting his career as a recording artist those ideas start to materialize in an accessible form on wax. It's fair to suggest that the record has a day side and a night side. 'Filippa' is a somewhat balearic piece: on the shelf it lands somewhere between your Omar S records and a Mario Kart disc. On the flip, 'Key Largo's' mellow yet banging house grooves drop especially well at the after hours party. The release also marks the dawn of Fiskars' new vinyl-first imprint Leave the Man in Peace with His Kit - be on the lookout for more releases in 2018.

From deep within the UK underground special things can emanate without warning.
This is exactly what happened here, a special one-off white label remix of one of Disco's biggest stars by one of the founding members of possibly the most influential electronic music crews in the land Yep. For the uninitiated Loleatta Holloway is part of dance music's DNA, one of the most recognisable voices in Disco. Her tones have graced numerous club classics, she's been sampled 1000's of times, her vocal fingerprints are all over classic House music and are instantly recognisable. Remixer Pangaea aka Kevin McAuley is one of the main members of the formidable Hessle Audio crew alongside Ben UFO and Ramadanman. Rising out of the post-dubstep terrain of modern day England McAuley is a truly open minded DJ and producer pushing sonic boundaries and him and his Hessle co-conspirators have long been garnering respect from all corners since their inception as a collective. 'Stand Up' is a truly potent combination of two very different talents, fusing Pangaea's sparse, stripped back, minimalistic approach and Holloway's roof-raising diva vocals with the end result being a futuristic club classic in the making that gives an understanding, respectful nod to what has come before while gazing forth into the unknown.
Originally released as a promo-only white label, this remix has been wreaking havoc on dancefloors over the course of the summer and has featured heavily in the Hessle Audio crew's DJ sets. Gaining rave reviews on sites such as RA and with people literally passing out with excitement over this very special remix / re-edit it felt only right to give it a reissue on the label that serves as Loleatta Holloway's spiritual home - Salsoul Records. The hype is real on this one, do not sleep!

Strictly Rhythm is back on track after a summer hiatus with a double header from one of the most exciting producers in house music right now: the UK's Josh Butler. What is Real and Innocence showcase Butler's talent at blending his love of classic house with fresh flavours cut for today's dancefloors.
With over a dozen record releases to his name in a short career, Josh Butler is on the up. He's notched up notable partnerships with the likes of MTA, Noir, Cajual and MadTech, turned the heads of house music heavyweights Kerri Chandler, Marshall Jefferson and Pete Tong and made himself an essential fixture on the international DJ circuit.
Butler broke through in 2013 with Got A Feeling on Chase & Status' MTA label, for which he picked up a beatport award, and followed it up with the No Frills EP on Kerri Chandler's MadTech imprint, The Situation and Portable EPs on Cajmere's Cajual, Feelings on Noir and a remix of Fatboy Slim feat Macy Grey's Love Life. He was awarded the prestigious Best Breakthrough Producer by DJ Mag for 2104.
The DJ diary isn't too shabby either, with a posting supporting the legendary Chic on tour and two full summers in Ibiza at Sankeys under his belt, plus a US tour and clutch of festival appearances at the likes of SW4, Parklife and Secret Garden Party.

Kolja is and will stay real & authentic by keeping this behaviour. He is not aiming at superfi just for the higher potential of success or money or fame . . .

being asked to describe the 22 year old german musician Kolja Gerstenberg - one possible answer could sound like that he might be the lost twin brother of Jamie Jones (but it's just one among many other suitable answers) the youngster and music student (he's studying drums at university) Kolja is a total opposite of the typical modern-music-scene-kind-of-guy as he sticks to his passion, which is House Music in it's classic disguise like 20 years ago. Kolja is not interested in following hypes or trends. what he loves are raw & dirty US House like trax or disco house flavoured tunes with loads of jazzy smell and glitter all over. Kolja is and will stay real & authentic by keeping this behaviour. He is not aiming at superfi just for the higher potential of success or money or fame . . .
Being deeply connected to the funk/soul & disco era back in the 60' / 70's or early 80's, the era of studio 54 & the times of the discoball & hedonistic nights without limits is an evidence that prooves the existance of some kind of legacy within Kolja's family. It's like if his extraordinary talent & feeling for grooves and rhythm was planted in his DNA Code. Why.. Just because already Kolja's father has been one of the very early techno music pioneers being known & popular in the underground music
scene as he was part of the technoproject called AFROTRANCE" with vinyl releases more than 20 years ago on worldwide respected labels like R&S Records or Sven Väths Harthouse back in 1993/94 (!) with these facts in mind it is no wonder or miracle that B00M JACK RECORDS is proudly presenting the result of Kolja's DNA Code as he - more than 2 decades after daddy's artist days - steps into his fathers footprints by delivering the LIBIDO EXPRESS EP for the long awaited launch of BOOM JACK RECORDS. There is no doubt about ... his dad will be proud as fuck!
On the A Side one gets caught by the records title track LiBiDO EXPRESS - which actually is a co-production by Kolja Gerstenberg & his partner-in-crime, Yannic Krauß. As a duo they are working under their moniker F.K.K. This tune is not wasting any time as it immediately takes you by the hand, dragging you straight to the dancfloor, leaving no chance to escape. It's simple but perfectly used ingrediences like the strength of a pumpin kickdrum, the raw and mean bassline plus its beanfield'esque kinda vocal samples doing a propper job untill a well hidden Monster of a 303 acid sequence suddenly emerges out of nowhere to drill holes even through thick concrete walls! This is a truly stunning tune guys that will make loads of people go nuts on the floors around the world. the flip side delivers two extraordinary convincing Space-Disco-House tunes that are playing in a totally different league. But this league is Kolja Gerstenberg deepest love when it comes to music. listening to "Diggin Digger" & "Let it Whip" automatically reminds of house music's hall of fame members like Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May or Juan Atkins. Quite weird though - because they wrote history with their work, founding a never heard before kind of sound back in the day, when baby Kolja G. wasn't even planned by his parents. These US House Pioneers who invented the sound we all are addicted to could almost be Kolja's grand fathers today but this young talents tracks, born in 2014/2015 somehow sound deeply related to the 30 year old hymns from Chicago or Detroit... Amazing - as we think!

124 Recordings know how to put together a deep house compilation, and they're sounding fierce on this latest, appropriately titled Levels Up. The jams come heavy and funky from a range of on-point operators, leading in with Tom Jay's quintessential New Jersey bump n grind on "Hanging On". David Moran is a little more shadowy but no less groovesome, while Nicola Brusegan takes things on a sweet and smooth tip. Across the whole double pack there are classically informed jams to satisfy the most weary deep house heads, but keep an ear out for the old-school flavoured heft of Freak D's "Power Of Bass", which should get some seriously jacking airtime in the right kind of dance.

Belgium's favourite underground house DJ Red D celebrates the 10 year anniversary of his We Play House Recordings label with 6 vinyl samplers containing new tracks and some very wanted gems from the catalogue. .
About We Play House Recordings
We Play House Recordings - WPH - is the work of Belgian DJ & producer Red D. Started 10 years ago to release the music of his friend san Soda, the label had (and has) the aim to release house music in all its shapes and forms. WPH's house ethics date back to the days where house was just a name for music that was played in clubs. There is no such thing as tech house, no such thing as deep house or minimal, there is simply (house) music, good or bad.
We Play House Recordings is lovingly led by Red D (real name Bart Van Neste), one of Belgium's leading underground music figures. Be it in his role as DJ, A&R, promoter, music panel host or general nitelife instigator, Red D does things with passion, humor and a healthy dose of keeping-both-feet-firmly-on-the-ground...with a twist...
WPH was started in 2007, so it takes no math genius to know that in 2017 the label is celebrating its 10 years anniversary. Running from the spring till winter 2017 this anniversary will be celebrated with special vinyl releases, a triple CD, a digital compilation, a Spotify playlist and a series of label nights all over Belgium and beyond. True to form the compilation will have WPH classics but also a BIG bunch of new material from core artists of the label like Locked Groove, San Soda, Kiani & His Legion, Fabrice Lig and many more.

'Less thought, more direction and purpose, less catering, more expression...'
This was Savile's mantra as he sculpted his 'Compersion' EP for Mike Simonetti's 2MR and it's a mantra we should all subscribe to. It's come about through his introspective analysis during the creation of his most succinct and starkest exploration date.
''Compersion' is a record about wrestling my own beliefs, both personal and political. It's about experiencing the anxiety and absurdity of loving a partner and ultimately myself. The sounds, tempos and arrangements found here are the result of further experiments with editing tracks to their absolute minimum. I tried to work these songs like I am working on me. Less thought, more direction and purpose, less catering, more expression.'
And more detail; throughout every stripped back heavily-edited sensation the conceptual EP provides, the meaning and message is palpable. Each track title inspired by Jenny Holzer and Helmut Lang's revolutionary provocative, sexualisation of the art space in Florence Biennale, 1996, there's a tangible physicality felt throughout...
The heavy breathing rhythmic elements of the electroid 'Talk Smile Bite' and its bedrock bedspring funk; the playful switch between breezy broken beats and driving techno coupled with minimal sample craft and literal message of an instantly recognisable vocal on 'Watch Scan Wait'; the much heavier, intense techno pressure of 'Tease Breathe Smell' where the heart is on the sleeve and it's palpitating wildly with direction, purpose and true expression.
A smart concept from a Smart resident, Savile has achieved something special here; a provocative model a deep self-construction and, above all, three damn fine pieces of techno.
Our New Muna Musik 007 sounds like if all 4 artists were sitting on a table checking together sounds and how they can create a journey together. Never before we had soundwise one direction of grooves with deep and surprising synths and spinning voices around the dancefloor like on this new various artist. Cinthie´s 'Hurt me", Hector Couto´s 'Ciroco", Christian Burkhardt´s 'Hola' & Luca Donzelli´s 'Not Ordinary' are made for dancefloor lovers with a smile in their faces and enough energy to dance the whole night.

Organic Analogue may be best known for its deep-diving techno and house and star-gazing electro, but on this latest transmission it digs into its roots in 1980s club music by way of the supremely talented Croza.Florence-based Adrien F Costes makes his first solo outing here with tracks lifted from his treasure trove of home-made, boogie-influenced beats. The sounds may tap up a direct line to the 80s, but there's a distinctly modernist slant to the heads-down groove that Costes cooks up.
Italian producer Ad Bourke also makes a rare appearance to remix "Night Heat". His version plays out like a hazy dream sequence injected with a little Italo strut, rounding this record out as a celebration of the deep-seated influences that guide Organic Analogue.
Deaf Chonky is an Israeli Folk, garage & punk duo formed by Adi Bronicki and Tami Kaminsky. The two members of the band grew up in Rehovot (Israel) where they met and rehearsed. Their name (which means 'Girls' in Russian) was given to them by Kaminsky's father. The band's musical influences go from garage punk to Russian folk music. This is their 1st EP for Red Axes' label Garzen Records. Incudes two remixes by Manfredas & Red Axes themselves!

Over the past few years orchestral instrumental music from outside the classical establishment has become huge, and Neil Leiter and Margaret Hermant of the Belgian Echo Collective have witnessed the evolution and extraordinary rise of this movement right up close. They've worked with some of the most important players, including Stars Of The Lid, Dustin O'Halloran and Adam Wiltze's A Winged Victory For The Sullen and O'Halloran's solo projects, as well as Jóhann Jóhannsson. And though the Echo Collective members themselves very much do come from within the classical music establishment, they don't care which side of the fence they are seen to be on. It was this which grabbed the attention of German music hub !K7's new sub-label 7K! - who have signed them for a two album deal: first to release the Amnesiac reinterpretation, then for a record of Echo Collective's own compositions. Not only that but they have been signed for publishing by Mutesong, which led to a hook-up with Mute mainstays Erasure, re-arranging and re-recording their latest album World Be Gone with classical instrumentation backing Andy Bell's vocals. This ability to flow easily from black metal to Radiohead, from Erasure to Stars Of The Lid shows exactly what kind of musicians Echo Collective are. The album, which features artwork by the renowned photographer and artist Roger Ballen, will be released on 30 March on CD, 2LP and digital platforms.
- New album by belgian band Echo Collective covering Radiohead's classic Amnesiac'.
- Perfect balance between classical, neoclassical & indie.
- Past and ongoing collaborations include Erasure, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Stars of the Lid, Johann Johannsson and Dustin O'Halloran.
- Echo Collective have produced, arranged and performed on Erasure's upcoming album due to release early March on Mute.
- Artwork by renowned photographer / artist Roger Balle.
When Armand Van Helden pronounced 'Todd invented the game. The rest of us are just playing it' he articulated a feeling that had existed in the house music community ever since Todd Terry became the toast of the dancefloor with a brash, brand new sound that combined the rhythms of house with the attitude of hip hop. Those early productions, struck through with raw energy, low-fi production and heavily manipulated samples set the tone to come for New York house and in the process,
propelled Todd to one of the first internationally known DJ/producers.
His arrival at Strictly Rhythm was a game changer. The fledgling label had already scored its first underground hit with Logic's The Warning, but Todd was the first really established name through the door and others were quick to follow his lead. Soon enough he produced his own club hit for Strictly, Can You Feel It by CLS, a record that went on to become a rave classic and a gold standard go-to track for sampling thanks to its iconic keyboard stab.
For his return to Strictly, Todd revives the CLS moniker for a track that acts as a kind of essential guide to his unque production style; the same raw energy, bustling beats, warped vocal, stabs and manipulated sounds that once led ecstatic
fans to coin the phrase 'Todd is God'.

The King Sporty reissue series continues with the lesser known, but no less worthy, Rock Attack. This first time release of the song under the King Sporty name - having previously only been released as by the vocalist in The Ex Tras, Johnny Griffin - brings in to focus the breadth of music, numerous alias and versions used by Noel Williams on his Konduko label.
When compiling the series, numerous DJs and collectors suggested that the dubby instrumental track No Wonder, found on King Sporty & The Ex Tra's sole album, Extra Funky, should be included on a loud 12" pressing. What many did not know, however, is that it had already appeared as the flip to what is a vocal version, Rock Attack.
Released under the name J Griffin, the song appeared on Konduko and its sister label Tashamba, with all the hallmarks of a King Sporty production. An incessant, reggae "picking" guitar solo is matched with freaky freestyle synth interplay, with Griffin's rap-vocal matching the rhythm and electro-funk bass stabs, working around the repeated phrasing to create a groove that could swing for days.
Recorded, as always, at Miami Sound Studios, with writing, arranging and production credits to Noel William's, the recording was the early incarnation of King Sporty & The Ex Tras. It's stripped-back version, No Wonder, sees Griffin's vocals reduced, dropping in and out of the mix with over dubbing to measure that makes the inclusion of what is affectively vocal and dub, in its rightful place as an Ex Tras song complete.
This is backed with another specially crated Discomix, this time done in fine style by discoid forefathers, Faze Action. The Lee brothers (Robin and Simon) have worked closely behind the scenes with Emotional Rescue since it's inception, with Robin often providing invaluable remastering support- from Bob Chance's Wild It's Broken (ERC001) to this King Sporty series - combined with the fact it was Simon who suggested the idea of putting Rock Attack and No Wonder together for this release. It seemed therefore, only right that as they are giving up a long held, secret play, that they should be let loose to create a long form vocal / dub reversion.
Merging the main vocal interplay of Rock Attack with the dub of No Wonder, while deceptively removing the stop / start nature of the original arrangement, as Faze Action they bring all their production experience to bare, sending the results to the echo chamber for a reinterpretation that really lets the fun happen as a true Discomix should.

Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos is active as a DJ from the late 70's. He debuted as a producer towards the end of the 80's with the single 'Alone' , which became one of the cult tracks of the international Deep House scene. His productions have always mixed House rhythms with afro-american jazz sounds, verging sometime towards disco, sometime towards progressive house or electronic soul. In 1992 Calypso (Irma) released 'Mediterraneo" a mini album all by playing ... Deep Jazzy house !!!

While the resurgent Vibraphone may be known for its silky smooth deep house confections, the Italian label also has other interests guiding its musical policy. The seemingly unknown KNLB steps up to prove this on Initialize by serving up a rich and engrossing broth of tracks loaded with depth and detail. "Second Wind" takes on a slow breakbeat trip with lingering piano sprinkled on top, while "Apollo" comes on like a warm and energised twist on dub techno motion. "Initialize" heads for a more introverted kind of house, which Minimono then infect with a bouncy energy on their remix.
Moss Co. kicks off 2018 with the 'Indivisual' EP from the supremely talented Mariano Mateljan. Mariano and label boss, Archie Hamilton have been talking about an EP on Moss Co. for a number or years, and it is a tribute to both of their perfectionism that it finally lands in all good stores April 6th.
Made in his home studio in Split, the record came together from several analogue jam sessions. Aimed squarely at the small hours, the deeply trippy and haunting tracks take influence from the micro house of the 90s; labels like Cabinet and Perlon and producers like Schatrax and Matthew Johnson.
The record is a fine example of Mariano's ever-maturing sound; timeless minimalistic house music that will cast a spell over dance floors the world over.
Klasse co-boss Mr. Ho steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park with a new EP of brand new and original material. Inspired by listening to various library music and funk records found whilst digging in Asia, the Hong Kong based artist lays down three tracks of boogie-disco and funk inspired House music. Funky walking basslines, eerie 1980's synthetics and spacey snares make for a total tip!
