French producers DJ Deep and Traumer pair up for their debut on Radio Slave's Rekids.
A key component in Parisian techno since the '90s, DJ Deep's influence is indisputable whether it's helming Deeply Rooted House Records, launching his own rotary DJ mixer series or his numerous appearances on Tresor Records alongside GETTRAUM founder Roman Poncet, who appears on this release as Traumer.
'La Valle La B' comes in three forms. The 'La Deep Mix' is an echoing number complete with rhythmic percussion and rumbling bass, whilst 'La Slave Mix' is a glitchier alternative featuring various subtle nuances and otherworldly atmospherics. Finally 'La Spicy Mix' concludes the package with a focus on piercing synths and a compelling groove.

When it was released in the summer of 2016, Eli Escobar's Happiness blew people away with its sophisticated house/disco hybrid sound and striking urban landscape. Critics were falling over themselves to hyperbolise over Eli's exquisite synth stabs while the coveted double LP continues to sell through to this day. The quintessential New York DJ, Eli's Happiness stomped through the streets of his city, stopping off along the way at the jumping Brooklyn basement clubs and dusty record shops that he frequents.
Some months later, developing on those themes seemed like the most natural thing to do; hands flew up across the board for remixing duties and assembling the extended Classic family to contribute was an easy, nay joyful, task. Happy Again was born, giving the album a fresh new suit of clothes. Re-works from Kon, SoulPhiction and Yam Who alongside bonus versions of tracks from the original album makes this the ultimate vinyl bumper pack.

On Colonial Patterns, Brian Leeds (Huerco S) treats his Kansas City region as a universe worthy of its own electronic music. To that end, Leeds deconstructs Midwestern techno and house tropes. The pieces are corrugated, rough, and decompositional. Working cheaply, Leeds conscientiously uses low-end software, synths and cassettes so as to subvert the gloss of so much urban dance music, giving tracks an impressionistic, emotive feel.
Colonial Patterns shares Jon Hassell's hybridized experiments in percussive ambience, as well as William Basinski's strobing melancholia. When tracks subtly veer into house/techno territories, they mirror the no frills dance mechanics of Midwest figureheads Ron Hardy, Omar S and Theo Parrish.
Most exemplary of this sonic architecture are "Struck With Deer Lungs" and "Angel (Phase)." Both layer subtle rhythmic pulses with broader strokes of deep sustain, creating a pair of intro/outro signals that shape the album's whole sequence and function as main supports to the album's busier core. Bass heavy, Detroit techno leaning "'linzhiid" and "Quiviria" deliver foreboding standouts with snappy economy.
Stripped of pop devices, discarding utopian delusions, Colonial Patterns is electronic music for the open prairie. Inherently inhabitable, yet strangely dispeopled, it's a fitting universe for this otherworldly debut.

Chicago born and raised but now living in New York, this is Ike's first official release for The Mister (though we did put his amazing tune 'Phazzled' on our Weekends and Beginnings mix and sampler a couple summers ago). Skyline Remixes EP collects on vinyl some of the most exciting remix moments from the rapid ascent of Izo FitzRoy - the gospel & blues sensation whose debut album Skyline has been lauded by both UK and international press. In its original form (produced by Dr. Rubberfunk) the album is a stunner but it soon became clear that a voice as distinctive and powerful as Izo's was always going to suit the remix treatment.
Starting things off on the A Side are the Hot Toddy Remix and Dub of Hope You Can Wait. Hot Toddy (Chris Todd of Crazy P fame) delivers two remixes that are certain to set dancefloor and terraces alight all summer long. The main remix is a piano led vocal version while the dub is one for the darker, more twisted DJ sets.
On the flip Moods version of Here I Come picked up some serious online attention including support from Eton Messy while the Ambassadeurs mix of Skyline is an acid laden beast set to join the others in introducing Izo's amazing voice to the dancefloor

Next up Creme Organization is a return by regular artist Lake Haze. Following his Natural Insight EP earlier in the year comes Intergalactic Communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. The Portuguese artist known as Goncalo Salgado also please son labels like Unknown to the Unknown and is a real hardware master. At The Gates ov Futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. Drexciyan Aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. Poseidon's Dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. Last of all, Intergalactic Communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic EP with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

First vinyl release for Sonora Records. After a number of digital releases, arrives at this moment always interesting for a young label. The original track is signed by two artists making their debut on vinyl, Matthew Lima and Alberto Pellicioli. They show a very refined tech-house track, with something reminiscent of tribal rhythms, sound deep and mysterious. Everything seems to run very slowly. but with something relaxing and visionary that leaves the listener wrapped or those who dance in a storm of love. The remix by Francesco Bonora (Etichetta Nera,Frequenza Limited, Plastic City, etc.) creates even more peace of mind. Done well both in rhythm and in the deep atmosphere. It's a beautiful walk through a sea of positive energy. Valeria Karter gives a touch of eccentric and intriguing woman. With a voice sample and a bass line that seems to create a sexy momnet. Sounds clean and just groove, to move all that women can enjoy..

June 2016 sees Freerange Records celebrate 20 years at the top. The label, run by Jamie 'Jimpster' Odell and Tom Roberts, is marking the occasion with the summer release of a carefully curated and lovingly assembled 20 track, five vinyl box set featuring exclusive new music from associates old and new, as well as with a
worldwide events series.
Over the last two decades, generations of DJs and dancers have gotten down to the Freerange sound. Initially that was a mix of sample-heavy productions incorporating live musicians, flirtations with the broken beat sound and some ground breaking fidget house cuts from Switch and Trevor Loveys. Then, and most enduringly, the label settled into a rich vein of deep house. Shur-I-Kan, Kirk Degiorgio, Milton Jackson, Trackheadz, Stimming as well as Jimpster ushered in this most recent chapter, and in turn the label has helped make household names of many more previously unknown talents from Detroit Swindle to Manuel Tur, Andre Lodemann to Tony Lionni. Wherever you look amongst the hundreds of EP and LP releases on
Freerange, you will find nuance and evolution, dance floor sensibility and genuine emotional impact.
That same sense of timelessness characterises this new compilation, which is packed with great music from the likes of KiNK, Pittsburgh Track Authority, Kuniyuki, Kito Jempere, Soul of Hex, Clavis, Detroit Swindle, and of course Jimpster himself, as well as a whole host of other Freerange regulars. There are many highlights across
the 20 track package including a warm and skipping house cut from Bulgarian live specialist KiNK, a typically slow burning and beautifully arcing epic from Andre Lodemann and spaced out jack tracks from classically inclined Liverpudlian Tony Lionni.
Big name stars like Detroit Swindle return in style with a robust and acid laced banger, the ever-underrated Milton Jackson builds something melodically magical and Pittsburgh Track Authority layer up majestic string stabs and rubbery bass into soul infused future music. Jimpster himself bolsters the whole package both solo and with Luv Jam as well as remixing Tim Toh, and on each occasion proves why he is one of the pivotal figures of the UK deep house scene.
Few labels make it to twenty releases let alone twenty years strong. Often doing so without making any real fuss, now is the time that Freerange Records deserves its time in the spotlight, and this compilation more than proves that.

After almost two decades, Dan Piu's album Self Education (MOTO 003) finally gets the vinyl treatment it deserves: The best tracks extracted from DAT tapes, pressed on wax and renamed to Living in Fear for Cartulis Music's fourth release. Even though the original and incredibly exclusive CD was heard and appreciated in the years around its release in 1999 from DJs such as Jeff Mills and Carl Craig, it was virtually impossible to own (only 30 copies were made, ever). Despite its rarity and status, Cartulis choses this masterpiece for one principal reason: The music. An exhibition of an innovative era, of heavy duty machinery (Roland Juno 60, Roland Juno 106, Roland TR-909 and EMU Vintage Keys, just to name a few) and of fine craftsmanship (using his own samples and playing the keys himself), the album opens your mind and ears to interconnecting styles of ambient atmospheres, electronic-instrumental hip hop, and signature dance-floor killers "Self Education" and "Living in Fear". Not only for fans of Dan Piu and his subsequent labels (Moto Music, deepArtSounds, No Acting Vibes) but for any music aficionado that appreciates a deeply cult classic.

Death on the Balcony's 'Tides Of Fortune' has been the subject of relentless "track ID" requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since Be-At-TV streamed the BPM performance of Lee Burridge and Matthew Dekay back in 2015.
Joined on the EP by three other tracks there's a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. Mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on Rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series.
'1700 miles' is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. Don't be deceived though. When played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. We feel rather privileged as this track is Mark's first solo outing from DOTB under his new moniker 'Caramelli' and DOTBs first full length on All Day I Dream.Mark's back in the band for 'Memories Of The Future' which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience.Close your eyes and be transported.

Chances are if you have a body, a pair of ears and access to some kind of listening device, you've at least tapped a foot to 'Shine' from Soul Clap and Nona Hendryx. Pure authenticity and vocal integrity is provided in bucket loads by Nona (ex-Labelle member and purveyor of funk for more than 40 years), while the production maintains Soul Clap's sublime freshness.
Increasing your marimba intake by 200% with two additional versions, Hot Toddy gives exotic plushness with a diversified rhythm section and melodic bottom lines that lightly entwine, shimmering in the light of Nona's voice. Scott Grooves brings the funk, with an upfront bassline and extra JB-style horns on his 'Horns Dub', while the 'Deepah Dub' takes a housier approach while still keeping the horn stabs. Scott finishes off with an 'Echopella' of Nona's vocals recorded from the International Space Station. This remix package is everything you would want, and then some.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Fit of Body (aka Ryan Parks) is part of a new generation of ATL producers; underground artists who draw on the space and grit of Southern hip hop and team it with curveball electronica discovered on late night, weed-fuelled web trawls.Having honed his sound on a string of feted self-released cassettes released on his own Harsh Riddims label - which has also put out everything from bizarro hip hop to gleaming synth pop - and dropped a hyped 12' released on the CGI imprint, the Healthcare EP finds Fit of Body delivering his most accomplished work to date. Five woozy original tracks jammed out on second hand drum machines, bass guitar, cheap mics and creaking synths, this is techno as it was first imagined; raw machine soul made for strange times and unknown futures.
Finding a commonality between Arthur Russell's vocal delivery, Jermaine Dupri's club shaking bass, and the militant drum attacks of Underground Resistance, the EP ghosts past rigid categories, instead taking a journey through heat and haze. On the A side, Parks switches between the languid analogue house of 56k, the melancholic Drexciyan electro of Ridin 2 That Trap or Die, and the lo-fi post punk grooves of 770-997-2341. On the flip he offers the late night 808 soul of Antonio Girl, followed by the uptempo techno ballad All This Time (Since), a song sad and euphoric in equal measure. On 12', the EP is closed with a remix from fellow ATL producer Divine Interface who stretches 56k into a glistening shard of time-stretched trip hop.
IULY.B returns to Visionquest this March with the 'Surreal Experience' EP accompanied by a remix from Bass Culture's D'Julz.
Romania's IULY.B is rapidly becoming a household name in the realms of stripped-back, immersive house music of late, a regular feature on Hector's Vatos Locos imprint and at the label's events, as well as releasing material on Bouq, Claque Musique and of course Visionquest where he returns to here following his 'Observatory' EP in November of 2016.
This time round IULY.B launches the 'Surreal Experience' with a murky, dub-tinged composition entitled 'Sci Fry', laid out over eight minutes with snaking synth whirrs, sweeping dub echoes and tumbling sub bass tones before Bass Culture head-honcho D'Julz reworks the original into a more robust, groove-drive interpretation via swinging rhythms, stuttering sample chops and a thunderous low end drive.
'Moonberry' opens the flip side on a more reduced tip with bumpy organic percussion, rounded sub swells and an amalgamation of sonar blip melodies to create a dynamic and hypnotic workout, 'Time Traveller' then closes the release via expansive atmospherics, subtly evolving acidic synth licks and loose shuffling drums.

Kanja Records is sincerely honored to present its second vinyl release, based on a concept called Sunday Mornings. With this series of releases we will focus on that warm up, early morning, after party gems and slowly fading away from peak time music. Our philosophy behind this concept is that the focus goes to the tracks being timeless, and music that you can listen to in every time of day and night. Music that offers a vast variety, but in the end coming together in that sweet and warm morning glory.
Aishuu by Shintaro.D was definitely our first pick for the first track on this release. As the first sides of our releases will be oriented on a more housy sound, he perfectly captures this philosophy in his track.
Fo Rest by Consep perfectly sits beside our opening track, again confirming that the first side of our release will be soulful, with all around housy vibe. We are really excited to have another member of the Ukrainian scene on our release, because we are really in love with their production.
Benshou by Kensuke Yasuhara is a really impressive track, with a breaky vibe and beautiful pads and is perfect for our B side, as we like it to be more minimalistic. Shintaro.D and Kensuke Yasuhara strongly represent the current Japanese scene and we are honored to have this guys on our label.
The Bitch Of Glitch by Claire is the final track on our second vinyl release. Being a bit different from other tracks on our release gives it that special place, as it nicely rounds up the variety that has been presented on this release.

Amine Edge & Dance have become well known for their releases on their own label CUFF. By bringing new sounds to this label, they are building a reputation for some huge anthems, and it looks like their latest has arrived under 'Bad Influence'.A hard hitting beat kicks the track off, while also flitting in with the vocals of SerGy which provide a real different edge to the track.
They have a soulful feeling to it, especially when the track begins to build and whenever it drops down. The vocal chops work well with the deep flowing bass line and hard hitting beat that Amine Edge & Dance have delivered. Bringing this all together with the drum samples and the various synth layers which work into the background of the track, it all seems to just provide a sense of groove, a sense of energy, a real deep underground driver.
Amine Edge & Dance deliver the goods with 'Bad Influence'.
Brighton based analogue synth junkie and producer Andrew Whitwell marks the launch of his Mode7 Records label with a standout 4 track EP of classic U.S. inspired House music. Andrew Whitwell is a self-confessed hoarder of vintage studio kit and has, over the years, built up an impressive collection at his Brighton based studio, much of which features on this stellar EP.
The record itself was actually inspired by a decade old recording that Andrew had shelved during his university days, the track 'Station' caught the ear of local DJs and has been revived here with a new recording featuring the wealth of Whitwell's studio hardware. The 'Station EP' is the first release from the Mode7 Records imprint which will act as a vessel for the owner's music and is a follow up to Andrew's previous work under the Van der Funk moniker.
The release opens with the excellent 'Xeno', an evocative slice of Detroit influenced deep house with a perfect fusion of stuttering drums, warm pads and attention grabbing synth parts. Next up we have the old school sounds of 'Zanoni' which marries acidic squelches with cavernous breaks that transport you back to the warehouses and
big tops of the early nineties.
Penultimate cut 'Yamaoka' takes things into electro territory with a deep and brooding rhythmic workout underpinned by rich bass and emotive pads. Finally we come to title track 'Station', a superb piece of deep and delicious house that was apparently inspired by the industrial architecture of Brighton train station. 80's Chicago inspired drum sounds rub shoulders once again with the ever present pads whilst subtle stabs, delays and FX swirl around in perfect unison, sublime stuff! This is a wonderful EP of electronic music that takes cues from the past and delivers a sound that is just perfect for the moment.

Dinky makes her evolution from inaugural DJ to singer songwriter and front stage performer with new album 'Dimension D' out in June on Visionquest. Single 'Falling Angel' is first to drop with remixes from two elite producers, Matthew Styles, who coproduced the album, and Pépé Bradock. Both heighten Dinky's layered ethereal vocals and mesmerising melodies with their own movement and elements of dark and light.
Her sister named Alejandra Del Pilar Iglesias Rivera Dinky at birth. Born and raised in Santiago, Chile, as a child she studied Ballet and the Suzuki method of piano before relocating to New York to become a contemporary dancer. Her drive to make music brought her to Berlin a decade ago where she quickly became a dominant force in dance music, making her mark through releases on Carpark, Cocoon, Ostgut, and the critically acclaimed 'Anemik' album in 2009 on Mathew Jonson´s Wagon Repair. Her fifth studio album, 'Dimension D' sees her evolve into singer-songwriter and performer and take on a new musical direction. Long term friends with the Visionquest collective from their hedonistic days residing in Berlin, Dinky's fresh approach fits within their ethereal and otherworldly style and follows the Footprintz album earlier this year.
Consistently on point DJ and musician Matthew Styles coproduced and mixed 'Dimension D' and will perform the album live in a series of dates this summer.
French DJ/Producer and prolific remixer Pépé Bradock has been an enigmatic figure on the scene since the early 90s always essential listening for anyone into deep house with a magic off kilter touch.

This record was specially made for Mary Go Wild. It is a collage of the finest jams and sketches created by the loveliest bunch imaginable. It is collected, arranged and fiddled with by Frits. Love goes out to all involved and contributed: Iron Galaxy, Malin Genie, Axel Boman, Darling, Ben Westbeech, Celoy, Theravada, Boris Werner, Andeh Lang, Yaleesa Hall, Medlar, Hodini, Jordan CGZ, Chevel, Scissorworks, Detroit Swindle, Know Va, Larry The Cat, Maximill, Mosca, San2, Tom Ruijg, San Proper, Urulu, Laurel Halo, Viktor Palmer, Kornel Kovacs, Ally Howie, William Kouam Djoko, MLIR, Red Rackem, Ewald, Presk, Scott Franka & Kaap, Firestone, Wolf Music, DJ+ and Peel Seamus."A while ago the guys from Mary Go Wild got in touch with me about doing a record. Mary Go Wild is a record and book store based in the Red Light District in Amsterdam. They explained to me they had started something they called the vinyl club. Basically a group of subscribers that pay yearly to receive a random record every month, and all these records had something special. I absolutely loved this idea.First of all, there's the surprise element. Secondly - and this really appealed to me - the fact that people paid upfront for something they didn't know what it was till they received it in the mail. To me this meant I could produce anything I wanted without having to worry about break even or sales. And that thought is exactly what shaped this BODOMRGWLD series.
For the first edition I remember there were a few emails from the vinyl club subscribers. One stating: "I connected my turntable to my amplifier. The speakers are also working in the same way that I normally listen to music to. But for some reason the record you send me still sounds out of tune. Am I doing something wrong"
For the upcoming BODOMRGWLD02 I was speaking to other producers about a possible contribution. I know a lot of producers who make dance floor music, they're very good at it, but also make the most brilliant non house/techno skits.
I set out to collect this and I was absolutely amazed by the number of great producers I found willing to contribute and also allow me to fiddle and play around with it to make it into the record it is now.It turned out to be almost 40 minutes long. One of the first pieces I was sent was by Adam (Iron Galaxy). I played a gig at Mutek in Montreal and Adam did a Boiler Room there on that same day. He performed a great live show and when his 60 minutes where up he improvised a beatless outro. Hearing that outro I knew it had to be on this record. Another great thing is that I got my dad to work on this project as well. He has my grandparent's old tube radio from the 50s in his study, still in perfect original shape. I asked him to jam about on that thing switching from short to long wave etc. Its so interesting to hear what sort of sounds you can make on that just by tuning. The whole take he delivered truly sounded like an avant-garde piece."

Kapote loves the funk. And he loves Blaxploitation movies. The black underground cinema from the 1970ies. Kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. Melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. Bass lines that can create a sexual tension. Kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. And the music rolls. Often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. In the highest points this music is pure endorphin. It's 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. Kapote says he was listening to records from old Detroit label Red Planet and Parisian downtempo pioneers Motorbass and La Funk Mob while making this record. And yes, the vibe is there. Like these guys Kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. Adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.

Seth Troxler offers up the next installment in a lauded series of 12's on his no nonsense, club-focused imprint Play It Say It. With previous releases coming from Butch, The Mekanism and Steve Lawler, next in line is a new addition to the roster: Leonardo Gonnelli. Based in Florence, Leonardo Gonnelli has recently release on Defected and has also on Dirtybird, Snatch Off, Suara and Deeperfect. Throughout, the Italian native has consistently pedalled a sound heavily indebted to 90's Acid House and Detroit Techno and it's this in conjunction with a sound understanding of how to work a dancefloor that aligns him perfectly with the ethos of Play It Say It. 'Tonada' is a rich, hypnotic dance floor track propelled by clever sequencing that has it twisting and turning throughout. Arresting Spanish vocal passages punctuate progress while a circling sequence tumbles through the mix. The Dub version then omits the vocals in favour of distant whispers and caps off another solid addition to the Play It Say It series.

Transatlantyk return with a double header informed by the Dark Continent Label regular Universo (architect of their best EP no less) cooks up a splendid slice of culturally appropriated, campfire heat. It's Graceland era Paul Simon fed through some expertly assembled 21st century software.
On the flip Ryan R (Reynolds maybe ) offers up Umqondo. As Western Poland's answer to Awesome Tapes From Africa, we'd say he knows from whence he takes. It's a groove so thick even Dr Livingstone would have trouble hacking through it, an immersive ride though to be sure, and one which will make infinitely more sense at 4am Sunday morning than it does at midday on a Tuesday...

Boogie Beats Records debut release is the little known band Bourbon And Maxx, Mystery Man was originally released on 12" in 1981 on Esscore Records, New Jersey USA, it was a very limited press, its highly collectable and rarely comes up for sale. The original clocks in at a whopping 10:25mins with a beautiful vocal intro, this band really is a family affair with several of the members being related, and you can hear how tight they were when you listen to this song, great drums and percussion, seriously thumping bass line, great guitar and piano work with that oh so soulful voice to top it off, this is one hell of a jam. We are also very proud to have MadDisco do an edit of this song, slightly rearranging and extending the best parts.
